I'd be pissed if rioli left after the club supported him through his numerous brain farts
And it'd set our rebuild back a fair bit, i think if he had a good preseason he'd be playing significant midfield minutes next season

Yeah I think his going to stay. We have a pretty good indigenous culture at our club. Rioli seems pretty happy in WA. There's no reason for him to move unless his chasing premierships. At 27 he is probally thinking either stay with a bottom dweller and help rebuild or move to a premiership contender side.

That's where we will have some issues over the next few years. It's hard for us WA clubs to retain players when we are on the bottom of the ladder. If we don't start improving next season we might find it hard to retain some of our future youth players like Culley and Chesser once there contracts are up.

Chesser has already signed an extension to the end of 2025

Harry is just too slow, with a slow reaction time also. He also has the agility/ turning circle of a 12 wheeled semi.
Personally, I don't think he has the tools for the Curnows and suchlike.

I'm not shocked that Edwards would have rings run around him by Curnow, Darling, Bont, Patrick Cripps etc.

Edwards is 200cm+ and those guys are early 190cm players. Agility changes with an extra 10cm or so of height.

He's there to develop to play on the tall forwards; King brothers, McKay, Lynch, Chol, Wright.

Yep, that has been my thinking. Try match a Sheezel/Phillipou (balanced mid/mid sized fwd) with a contested mid at our next. I think it's easier to do it that way then a Wardlaw and then try find a balanced mid with your next.
Agreed. We very rarely get a crack at a top pick, we need to swing for the fences. We need to find a match winner.

There will be quality "vanilla" types left at pick 20 to pick.

Think Edwards is also just weak. He gets bossed around by the big key forwards. That's not unsurprising given his age.

We have also been spoilt with key defenders with Barass > McGovern > Emac > Glass > McIntosh > Jackovich in an unbroken line. Edwards much more likely to just end up being competent, rather than great.

McGovern
Darling
Yeo
Kelly
Sheed
Barrass
Ryan
Rioli
Allen

All A grade players who aren’t going anywhere for the next few seasons. That’s plenty to build around.

Duggan
Cole
Petrucelle
Waterman

Were in our last finals team which finished just outside of the top 4 and still fit within your age bracket (23 - 28)

Add to this promising starts for Bazzo, Hough, Culley and the emergence of JJ at hb, if we nail this years draft we’ll be in a decent spot and rising pretty quickly.

I really think a lot of people underestimate the impact of our injuries this season. Any team in the top 8 right now with this kind of unavailability each week would be struggling to make finals. We need to sort this out first and foremost, then, if we are still languishing in the bottom 2 with a relatively ‘normal’ injury run, I’d be more concerned with the state of our u
I did say I expect to bounce back before another fall when Hurn, Gov, Shuey, Cripps, Redden, Gaff, Darling, Nic Nat all retire. Yeo and Rioli are questionable how long they can play and Kelly will be over 30. That’s still the main core of the team. Were not sure how much losing JK is going to hurt yet either.

Allen, Barrass and Ryan are great players but I’m not sure if Sheed, Waterman, Petrol, Cole and Duggan can be the senior players guiding us to premiership glory.

Hopefully I’m wrong and we can draft a bunch of stars who all come through together and we can get back to the top over the next 2 or 3 seasons while some of those older guys are still there.

And they are all way to agile for big Harry. Chol just kicked 5 on him. King boys would rip him to pieces, etc.

we have many that will not guide is to a premiership You listed a couple only. This is why our recruiting and drafting now is so important. Hough, Basso, Chesser and Culley look to be a solid start.

Also depends how deep the animosity runs with the players that didnt want him back in the first place. If thats still an issue then it'd be kinda easy for him to leave

Wowsers talking about over rating our list.

You cant say a bloke who basically hasn’t played for three years and turn 29 in Yeo is elite anymore..
Liam Ryan and Willie Rioli certainly aren’t elite.. they can do elite things at times but not consistently or even semi regularly.
Sheed elite? A slow one paced one sided bloke who cant tackle who also kicks at under 60% each year isn’t elite.
Kelly also isn’t elite due to what he has to do for us and the way he has to play.

They are all good players but not elite..

Duggan cant kick or evade a tackle, petch is inconsistent and does a hammy every second week and the less said about waterman the better…

Hough, bazzo and Culley i hold way more hope for.

They’ve all played football at an A grade level for us pretty consistently and have a few years left at a minimum each. There’s no reason why all of them can’t find consistent form for us again. Just got to stay on the park.

Malaki Champion, one to watch.... played league games in Goldfields League for Mines Rovers, dominates and gets BOG honours when he plays . AA For the 16s Carnival. Shai Bolton V2. Still very raw also, nowhere near his finished product.....

Sounds like would fall in our NGA area AFL - News, Fixtures, Scores & Results - AFL.com.au.

Though can't match if goes in top 40. Worth sending an email though and then actually checking he receives it...

How many 21yr old defenders do you know who dominate their position?

People are way too quick to dismiss young players, especially talls.

Chol didn’t kick 5 on him. Barrass was directly out marked by Chol for one of his goals and Barrass also went up for a spoil/ mark and missed the ball completely on another occasion, the ball got out the back and Harry had to leave Chol to pressure the GC player who was running into an open forward line. There was also a cheap free kick.

Our defenders put on a good show, don’t know why Edwards cops the criticism he gets on here sometimes. Gold Coast had +20 odd inside 50’s, and we nearly won the game.

Ah ok. Next up Culley extension. That should be the main objective over our rebuild next few years. Retain our youth through it and build them up into premiership contending warriors
agree on this big time but not up to speed on what is Culley's and West Coasts Obligation - is mid season draft any different to PSD? I get hes contracted for all of 23, if he wants to leave does he have to trade etc? hopefully not a flight risk for us

He’s contracted for 2023 so would have to be traded. He seems pretty happy so far.

go home factor always scares me - I think any kid would be happy to be on any AFL list - now that every has seen he is a potential gun there will be no shortage of teams trying to get in before his stock gets too high. really hope he wants to stay and him and eagles sort their shit out
