We've already changed how we play. A big part of it for me is erasing the "guarding grass" mentally which always slides into getting smashed in contested ball.

We were trying things early in the season but its been a stop start process as we have been getting players back. Simo conceeded it was too difficult to implement a new gameplan when half the squad was unavailable.

The last 6 games are basically development games hopefully with enough key players to get more experience making it work. Some of the overlap handball play through the corridor v Tigers was great. We also fluffed up a few times as well.

I was at the G and paid special attention to him because of the trade hopes and because he's in my supercoach.

First half was atrocious. He got to a lot of contests, but he got to them late. His intensity certainly looked lower than the rest of the Richmond team, half-paced jogging WCE style. But in general he just looked like a Auskick kid (and not because of his size) running to where the ball was only to see it kicked away when he got there.

Second half was better, but we also gave a better contest.

I'm certain I'm reading too much into it, but Baker seemed to thrive when the contest was on and struggle when Richmond were executing their fast running/rebounding football in the first half.
Doesn’t sound that promising or a ‘must have’. Perhaps he was sub-consciously trying not to destroy the team he is hoping to move to 😀? Or maybe you are right, he thrives on pressure, and rises to the occasion.

I didn’t think he had a very impressive game from the tv. I won’t be devo if he stays with Richmond. Thanks for that report.

Look. Give him a break. He didnt want to hurt his future teammates so backed off 10%. :$

Dan Rioli was obviously trying to impress Simmo and it worked.. Surety we will be enquiring if he wants to play with Willie next year ..

I would throw a pretty decent contract at Daniel Rioli. He is in AA form since moving to half back. And we lack a good small back who can rebound.

Think the Suns will go hard at D Rioli.Richmond will need to pony up $$$ for him and others.

Maybe thats why they may let Dusty go.

I thought he was going to be a nobody in his draft year. But his run from half back is astoundingly good. You'd have to offer up a package for Dan and Maurice Jnr though. I don't think he'd leave his uncle/cousin behind. It would cost a future first.

I only watched the first quarter of our game today (had to go out for lunch) - was Liam Baker actually any good?

I'm a fan but he didn't have a good game today.
He played his usual game . Has been overhyped by Richmond media and fans as they know he is leaving .

The suns have built a war chest not for other players but to retain their young talent. They are in an interesting position where they are having to pay overs to keep players still. The playing group seems significantly closer now though with all the AFL help and the academy and zoning picks. The AFL needs to remove the huge zoning concessions soon or they will build a monster squad of young talent to the point where even GWS early young talent looks average.

Number 1 priority should be a monster marking forward who can ruck. Kennedy won the game vs Essendon, he plays yesterday we win. Williams was a witches hat. We never looked like taking a contested mark. Then 3 dynamic on ballers. Forget half backs and half forwards

After Hewitt's game against Vic Metro I don't think he's going to be called out in the top 2 but I do think he's the best balanced mid in the draft pool. Plus he has the prototypical height, size, speed and agility required.

Wardlaw in the Academy game particularly the second half did some amazing things and things I don't expect 18 year olds to do but he hasn't shown signs of being a huge accumulator either.

Sheezel is still more forward than mid.

Philippou in the champs is playing forward but he's also Forward but more mids at SANFL level.

Tsatas is more outside and I don't like his gamestyle but with his speed, accumulation and running he will be hot on the presses if he comes back well from injury.

Ashcroft is going to have unless injury destroys him a hugely successful career but I don't think his ceiling is as high as others. He's been in the elite pathway system for so long already and has had a lot on top of that as well he could not be better prepared at this stage.

So there's 6 and Busslinger and if Clark keeps having really solid games (particularly when they play metro) he could join the above group)

A lot comes down to who has what picks teams have and who finds out what about which teams are doing what.

With the end coming for Shiel and Breust it just seems to me that Sheezel is just the perfect pick for them and they may be willing to trade up for it.

Wardlaw could still slide. The real ******* interesting point gets to if say we end up with the 4th live pick and Wardlaw and Hewett are still there WTF do we do. Try and trade our future first and ports second for the next live pick and take both? I'd very strongly consider it.

Picks 1 through 10 based on current ladder

1. North (4 points)
2. West Coast (8)
3. Essendon (16)
4. Hawthorn (16)
5. Adelaide (20)
6. GWS (20)
7. Port Adelaide (28)
8. Gold Coast (28)
9. Bulldogs (32)
10. St Kilda (36)

Us and North are almost certainly locked in at 17th and 18th respectively

The sides in 13th to 16th are unlikely to move out of that band but the finishing order between those teams is fluid

I don’t see Port or Gold Coast doing anything much other than swap positions between themselves

Saints and Bulldogs would still harbour hopes of jumping into the top 8

Without a JHF as a clear no. 1 pick I could see North doing what we’ve been discussing and trade down. If they get a priority pick (end of 1st round most likely or perhaps middle of 1st round) I don’t know whether that would make them more or less inclined to trade pick 1

Nah, cannot see concessions lifted until Suns make finals for a couple of years.

Success will help player retention.

Up until then they, and GWS, will remain a part of VFL development program.

I suggested this a few months, a year ago and was hammered. Perceptions change.

Who are your top two? Sounds like it could be any two of 6-8 players. Two of them have to be one and two. Hewett may not be number two but he may be the one who suits us best. We will need to see how he goes in his future games. If Ashcroft is chosen by Brisbane, two would become three.

Got to say I think Duggan’s development has stalled.

Today he was responsible for at least 3 screw ups. His inability to hit targets is a grave concern. If he wasn’t a first round pick, posters would be calling for him to be dropped and traded.

For a first round pick, he has a very low ceiling. Not sure if the chasing shadows zone defence is to blame but I have no confidence in him and that has been for a couple of seasons
The discussion used to be Duggan vs Weller.

I do wonder though if we could have also extracted pick 2 out of GC if we did draft Weller instead of Freo.

Out: Duggan
In: Brayshaw

This is Souup's latest from the North board. They are seriously melting down over Noble.

Fair bit of moving around in this update. Scully and Munkara the main disappointments. Scully was not selected in the SA Champs team which was a shame but it has been his last couple of performances in the SANFL that have hurt him more than anything else. I'm not sure if Munkara is carrying an injury, and if he isn't, his efforts last week were horrendous in the champs. Talent-wise he's top 5, but you're not spending that draft capital on a bloke that legitimately looked like he could not care less on a big stage. roos_fanatic08 just saw your post above this one mate, I have no inside info on either of these blokes.

Random one - Would we look at someone like Jaidyn Stephenson? Contracted till 2025 on about $500K a year.
Think we could get him cheap for a trade (3rd rounder), has obvious talent and pace, doesn't appear to be happy at North (who is), and think in the right role and environment he could live up to his talent?

I like the idea of raiding North on the cheap for unhappy talent.

Thomas is the one I like, think there's a lot to work with.

Not for me. I think he has head issues.

Based on his 2021 form, 17 other clubs would be looking at Tarryn Thomas. And he might well want to extricate himself from the NM train wreck and establish a couple of years of good form before cashing in a huge go-home-to-Tasmania contract. But I imagine we'd be well down the list of preferred destinations.

Thomas' attitude has been called into question lately. Lead to him being dropped for not meeting Norf's training standards.

Let that sink in, he didn't meet Norf's low standards :eekv1:
