Link to contract status of all players -

He seemed OK so has probably earned a second game. However, I'd love to see O'Neill given the same chance to play that position (he did well against the Pies when he did - as opposed to being stuck on HFF) or even Clark given a go too.

Trew was playing forward as well.

Was happy with what he did for his first game. I counted at least three score involvements and he kicked 1.1 himself.

Good quick hands. Should stay in the side.

Current list is 45 (46 if you count Shepp) which is 3 above the maximum of 42

With our picks 2,20,38 and ports 2nd (currently 25) we need to make space for an absolute minimum of 4 picks

So at least 7 players need to be moved on. Assuming no trades of contracted players, those 7 will have to come from the 18 players currently uncontracted beyond this year

Definitely safe - Rioli, Naitanui

Definitely gone (retired) - JK, Hurn

Choose your poison on at least 5 to cut from these 14 :

Ruck - Strnadica
Ruck/forward - Jamieson, Williams, Dixon
Defenders - Jones, Nelson, Witherden
Mids - Shuey, Redden, West, Trew. Naish, Joyce
Forwards - Winder

There’s every likelihood that we cut more than just 5 but those players will be replaced with (in order) pick 74, 92, RD2, RD20, RD38 so the question then becomes who’s worth persevering with ahead of a late draft/rookie pick selection

Not convinced that it’s the right thing to do but I think Shuey will likely play on, as will Redden.

Jones has been promising off half back so he should be kept imo

Strnadica, Dixon and Joyce look the most obvious delistings

Leaves 2 (or more) of Williams, Jamieson, Nelson, Witherden, Naish, Trew, West and Winder

I can make a case for and against each of them
Trades will also come into play I think. Both out and in.

I don't think we would miss many of that list. Far easier to pick the ones we should definitely keep: Redden, Jones, West and Jamieson.

We would be insane to keep Shuey or Hurn at the expense of Redden who hasn't really dropped off or had a history of injury. I'm not against Shuey playing on but he needs to be phased out of the midfield rotations. Despite yesterday's good game his inability to stay on the park doesn't convince me he's worth keeping over Hurn if he wants to go on.

Trew may just earn another year if he can show more form like yesterday.

Winder and Witherden have skills but just aren't going to make it, so I'd cut them, although I suspect Witherden will survive.

Apart from Jamieson who has shown a little bit of promise none of those other rucks are ever going to be anything. Williams is a witches hat but probably still a better option than Strnadica and Dixon unfortunately.

So that leaves Nelson and Naish. I'd keep both for another year but be surprised if they made it longer.

Probably right

Hiowever, if we do trade for Baker then either pick 20 or 25 is most likely going to be needed so that doesn’t change the numbers we delist

Ideally, Gaff asks for a trade even though we wouldn’t get better than a 2nd round pick (if that) but it would ease the pressure on our salary cap and opens up a midfield rotation to give one of our younger players

Not sure if any other contracted players are likely to ask for a trade - Rotham may want more opportunity elsewhere

Of the uncontracted players I think only Williams is a chance of finding a club willing to trade for him

I've said it before, I'll say it again.
We have the perfect player in Liam Ryan to play the attacking half back role.

Something fresh for him too

Dan is a RFA.

So its contract length and $.

Richmond would be roapable if Maurice asked to follow. And he's under contract.

This only happens if Richmond low ball Daniel on his contract.

My apologies I didn't realise he was a FA. He's well worth at least offering a longer contract on good money then.

We don’t really need another attacking half back flanker with Jones and a fit Yeo in the side.

I’d be more inclined to just play Rotham in a more free flowing role while Yeo is out, but they seem hesitant to do so.

Unfortunately not as it's personal and i'm not sure of any potential ramifications for either myself or Lemmey.
Is this kid going to be able to play?

I suspect somewhere, some club is going to want a KPF and his name will be called. But if he slipped to our second pick, I'd be will to take a punt. Gun KPFs are like hens teeth and he's not without a chance.

I wouldn't be drafting him now. I suspect he may go to the crows with their second rounder or slide further. When I say I wouldn't draft him I mean with any of our picks.

He would play that role well, but I think that could be said about many/most roles on the ground (I'd never risk him there, but in theory he could probably win some hitouts in the ruck if played there!).

What we sorely lack, and have lacked at our lowest ebbs this season, is creativity in the front half. Rioli and Ryan offer that - and that is just so valuable. The ability to see free players and maintain possession instead of the long bomb to JD/JK at the top of the goalsquare.

Yeo, JJ, Chesser, Hough - and if we can get Rotham to remember he is allowed to play on - is plenty of run and pace out of the backline (noting that at stages some of them will be wing or mid). Transition through the midfield is still an issue - but in looking at the draft I'd say we are more inclined (assuming we go short) to look at either a pure mid, or a fwd/mid rather than our stereotypical HBF with mid potential.

From his weekend game, I would say Trew showed enough to stay in the side (esp with Yeo out) and more of that will see him retain a spot come season end. What I liked was seeing an inside midfielder that knew where to be and knew his role. Refreshing.

The other youngster in the team on Sunday was Hough and he is looking a great pick. Initially off the HBF but he is showing enough to be a permanent winger and so long as we have inside mids to join him, I can see him going to centre bounces.

Petruccelle to the clearances was novel and I liked it. That said, I would need to see it more consistently, something that Jack has not been that good at doing week in week out.

My desire to trade out Rotham is growing. I have it that he is contracted until the end of 2024. Is this correct and was there any idea that Adelaide were sniffing for him?

Duff did say on his podcast a few weeks ago that Rotham is pretty frustrated with his current situation.

My instant thinking at the time was trade for pick upgrade (i.e. our third rounder if we still have it and Rotham for a mid second rounder).

For me unless injured I would like to see him remain in the side for much of what’s left of the season.
He has a skill set that we are short of and at the risk of keeping him on the list a year to long if he doesn’t work out, I would be very reluctant to cut him at seasons end.
There are others on our list that I would cut before him.

Once he masters the tempo of the game at the next level I think he will be fine and the only way he is going to be able to do that is by getting games into him.
same. He definitely got better as the game progressed. Last year I thought he was undersized for the type of mid he is (crash and back) but showed glimpeses. This year he's been injured but showing great glimpses at times. Personally I'm on the camp of us keeping him on for another year.

If we had taken Dambrosio or whatever and the Bombers got Culley, Culley would have debuted by now and Dambrosio still wouldn't have.

That's the way.

It's funny how Rotham gets dropped by Simpson in a heartbeat, yet we give him a 3 year deal. I'd keep him in as he's our only medium sized defender who can play on a big if we're forced too.

I reckon. Duggans ordinary at best. No speed, poor kick, no right foot, gets out run by his opponent doubling back on our turnovers. More than 77 points Richmond scored against us from turnovers. Dan Rioli on their half back cut us to pieces. We need half backs with that pace, not plodders like Duggan.
At 34 Hurn is still far more valuable than Duggan. We just signed Cole for 3 years and I'd pick him before Duggan.
I dunno, I rate Duggan usually because he's hard at it and we're severely lacking those hard nosed types in the team.
But his kicking and decision making has been letting him down a lot lately.

With Abrosia Salad from Essendong getting the rising star nom, has anyone complained about Culley yet?
I still think Culley is going to be a gun in time.

He’s 19, and only just started playing against men.

Has the determination, rapid development and physical traits to succeed.

Still very happy even if he doesn’t get any game time in the seniors this year. That said, I’d love to see him get one or two before the season is out.
