Now if we're discussing second and third round picks from WA.

Hagan really 2 problems. He's mainly dominated against colts as an early developer. Two he is small. You can't attack his professionalism, attack on the ball, on the man or similar but 175cm as a primary mid these days is starting to get bit small as a mid. Can he play primarily as a pressure forward? Maybe. But I wouldn't draft him on that. I don't think his kicking has the penetration to be a lock down defender and he is even getting small for one of those even if he is very classy at it. Always gives it his all. Hagan's real problem is how recruiters see his height and how can he fashion his abilities into a role at AFL level because over the last couple of years he's been the most consistent WA player.

If he was there at our 3rd rounder i'd consider him depending who is on the board. I'd much rather Reuben Ginbey. Can WA please play him as a defender for a few games. Guy is a wrecking ball with amazing leadership and would probably try and tackle a truck if it had a ball caught in it's bull bar. Or if we're going to reach for a WA player I see a lot more upside in Jack Cleaver even though I don't think he plays mid at AFL level. (lock down mid sized defender, again great one on one, a great mark)

Now if Condon was to come out next year or the even 2 years after basketball and give footy a second chance I'd snap him up in a heartbeat. If he had chosen football it's likely he would have gone top 5 at worst top 10 this year. He's the ruck we needed but he chose basketball. If however he steps up next year in the NBL or in College in the US it's all over as he will be a basketball player and likely to get drafted. If he doesn't get NBA drafted we're in with a shot in a couple of years time. Another couple of years of basketball and could sign him as a Cat B player.
Why dont you see ginbey as a mid?

There seems to be some tacit agreement for the top 10 to declare to Twomey who they will pick. Maybe it's some sort of industry thing where they all know each other and as soon as they pull any cloak and daggers they will no longer be trusted among peers? But if we decide we want Hewitt before the draft and declare as much, then any pick swap involves us giving up the player we want. Conversely, we can pretend we want someone else or simply not declare, but I get the feeling that won't go down well and that's why they don't seem to do it. So for this to work (above board) we'd need a situation where there are 2, maybe 3 players we would be equally happy with.

I tend to think we'll work out who North are taking, make our choice, and then pick him. I absolutely can't see a situation where will split our top pick for 2 picks between say 10 and 15. We've waited 10 years to access the top talent in the draft.

Simmo still talks to his B/F Rawlings , so yeah we can work out who North will take .. 🤣

I only watched the first quarter of our game today (had to go out for lunch) - was Liam Baker actually any good?

Im happy to drop 2 spots for the right price. Last years 2 spot downgrade looks like we will get a pick around 26.

What will one of the Vic clubs offer to get Wardlaw or Sheezle?

Giants around the mark.

Do not trade lower than live pick 5. For the right price.
Agreed.

Take Ashcroft out of the pool, leaving Wardlaw, sheezel, phillipou, tsatsas, hewitt and busslinger.

Assuming we have pick 2 (3 after Ashcroft), there is a decent chance Hawks or Dons want to get ahead of each other for the same player, and maybe Adelaide also keen on players those 2 teams are interested in.

Almost certain that one of Phillipou or Hewitt is there at 5, possibly 6 but more risk. If we are happy with either then trading back is fine.

It really only becomes an issue if we know North are going for a tall, as getting a top 2 mid is exactly what we need.

Didn't do a great deal for most of the game and then bobbed up with some junk-time touches and goal.

Size is against him but I liked what I saw from Darcy Jones.

Be interesting to see where (if) he gets drafted.

Darcy Jones is the same height as Willie Rioli but the size issue should push his draft ranking down .. I wouldn`t mind picking him with a late pick or as a rookie pick ..He has been playing midfield and killing it in the Colts this year for Swannies ..

Hewitt is in my top 3 and almost a certainty to be taken by WCE , the captain`s goal from the boundary was outstanding ..
Shades of Sheed 2013? I recall he killed those champs and there was one game where he kicked maybe 3 including one late in last qtr to ice the game from around 45m out. Also a bloke we more or less split picks to get

After Hewitt's game against Vic Metro I don't think he's going to be called out in the top 2 but I do think he's the best balanced mid in the draft pool. Plus he has the prototypical height, size, speed and agility required.

Wardlaw in the Academy game particularly the second half did some amazing things and things I don't expect 18 year olds to do but he hasn't shown signs of being a huge accumulator either.

Sheezel is still more forward than mid.

Philippou in the champs is playing forward but he's also Forward but more mids at SANFL level.

Tsatas is more outside and I don't like his gamestyle but with his speed, accumulation and running he will be hot on the presses if he comes back well from injury.

Ashcroft is going to have unless injury destroys him a hugely successful career but I don't think his ceiling is as high as others. He's been in the elite pathway system for so long already and has had a lot on top of that as well he could not be better prepared at this stage.

So there's 6 and Busslinger and if Clark keeps having really solid games (particularly when they play metro) he could join the above group)

A lot comes down to who has what picks teams have and who finds out what about which teams are doing what.

With the end coming for Shiel and Breust it just seems to me that Sheezel is just the perfect pick for them and they may be willing to trade up for it.

Wardlaw could still slide. The real ****ing interesting point gets to if say we end up with the 4th live pick and Wardlaw and Hewett are still there WTF do we do. Try and trade our future first and ports second for the next live pick and take both? I'd very strongly consider it.

I thought there was word that surgery was an option for Duggan mid year.

Have nfi how the two only options are have surgery, or keep playing 🤷‍♂️

Yeah if he’s that bad that they’re talking surgery, just put him in now. What’s the point of playing him for the last seven rounds? Are we that desperate to move from 17th to 16th?

You’d definitely be asking the question.

If we traded down t live pick 5 and both Wardlaw and Hewett were there at our pick......lol.

Now that would get interesting on here for sure.

Does the home town boy get the nod?

Ok.....now we are ;) speculating.

We need to win 3 games and the Dons win none......and they play North.

So we need 4 wins by 100 points each to make 16th.

If anything we need to finish the year off strongly, even win another game but be competitive so we head into preseason on an improving line of form and working on the new overlap handball game plan. Blood the kids and have a look at who can play (Trew) Not hitting rock bottom with zero confidence and angry.

That should be the plan.

I think the issue is it's really hard to pin point where to operate when the injury is incompetence.

We've already changed how we play. A big part of it for me is erasing the "guarding grass" mentally which always slides into getting smashed in contested ball.

I only watched the first quarter of our game today (had to go out for lunch) - was Liam Baker actually any good?

I was at the G and paid special attention to him because of the trade hopes and because he's in my supercoach.

First half was atrocious. He got to a lot of contests, but he got to them late. His intensity certainly looked lower than the rest of the Richmond team, half-paced jogging WCE style. But in general he just looked like a Auskick kid (and not because of his size) running to where the ball was only to see it kicked away when he got there.

Second half was better, but we also gave a better contest.

I'm certain I'm reading too much into it, but Baker seemed to thrive when the contest was on and struggle when Richmond were executing their fast running/rebounding football in the first half.
