I think we might need to go and find another forward pocket from somewhere.

LIam Ryan when played up the ground is so much like rioli was with his kicking and decision making its not funny... maybe jones slots into that pocket but ryans getting to the stage we have to have him further up the ground delivering inside 50 cause none of our mids can do it as well

What kind of role does Alec Waterman usually play for Claremont? Is he a crumber or a marking forward?

I know a lot here prefer Hickey over Vardy but I hope we keep Vardy over him if we had the choice to keep one. Hickey has always been a terrible tap ruckmen but him getting done but one of the worst tap ruckmen yesterday/ He was ok in the first and just did a complete 180 after quarter time. At least Vards is physical and throws his weight into ruck contests.

Problem being Hickey is under contract for next year, so prioritising Vardy over Hickey means having both on the list next year.

I think the difference is minimal. Would love for Bailey to continue to develop and be Nic's main partner in crime when quarters go back to 20 min + time on next year.

Get rid of both IMO. Williams will be ready next year. Allen is more than handy as back up. Darling could part time at a pinch. One more year of development into Jamieson - surely he won’t be much skinnier next year as Jackson was this year. Edwards is tall enough to pinch hit if he’s playing. We don’t need so many rucks on the list.

You're completely ignoring the fact that Hickey HAS A CONTRACT FOR NEXT YEAR.

We can't just delist a player who has a contract.

Not to mention what would we do if Nic goes down?

I was being a bit facetious about getting rid of both, but seriously if Hickey wanted out I would strongly consider what we could get for him.

We just don’t need so many back ups. We can cover Nic if he goes down.

Williams will be a third year ruckman next year - best ruckman in his draft, apparently. There have been plenty of teams who have played entire seasons with third year premium rucks.

Happy to keep Hickey on the list but we better not replace Vardy with yet another backup ruckman. Save that spot for a mid

Any love for Walters? Freo are rebuilding and by the sound of it not offering him the contract he wants which is more around length than dollars. Would be a good addition

Nah don’t think so

The more I look at the list, the more fat I see that needs trimming...

Ainsworth (unlikely to be delisted, but a guy can dream)
Brayshaw (too slow)
Reid (not up to standard)
Treacy (not up to standard)
Watson (sadly)

A few that could retire...

Hurn (will possibly play on; not sure if he should)
Kennedy (will likely play on)
Schofield (sadly, but it's time)
Venables (sadly)
Jetta (will possibly play on; I'd like him to)

Another few iffy ones...

Rioli (who even knows?)
Hutchings (if his body is cooked, then he's getting to the age that there's no real point anymore)
Vardy (slipped way down the order now and we know his body can be fragile)

The likes of Foley, Johnson and M O'Neill etc. likely retained due to large turnover. This probably applies to Ainsworth too, though I'd still cut him.

I see this as a great opportunity to pick up some cheap talent (especially WA talent) this year that may lose list positions, such as Garcia, English, Pasini. Hopefully our list managers get creative and see the chance to turn the list over a little. Hope we've been scouting the state leagues for the next Picketts and Kellys as well.

Agree on the suggested delistings & retirees, but not sure what the point of grabbing discarded players does for our list? That's how we have used the rookie list in recent years and still waiting on a success story.

Clubs delist players for a reason. Because they're not up to it. Sometimes clubs get it wrong, but I'd rather we pluck someone who has gone back to a state league and shown some improvement.

I think it’s a little different because of list cuts. Clubs may have to let 1-2 players go they normally would retain.

Someone like Garcia is a perfect example. Really talented but had a knee issue so hasn’t been able to establish himself. If we could pick up a player or two like that it would be crafty list management.

Hickey clearly beat English in the ruck last night .
How many team's have gun depth rucks ?
Vardy is a better forward that hickey but a pretty poor main ruck.

Vardy OOC gone
Hickey stays on 1 more year as insurance as he has 1 more year on his contract.
Williams gets priority as backup ruck/forward

Might've gotten more hitouts than English, but his hitouts barely ever went to advantage and English did a lot more around the ground.
As he's contracted, the most we can do is demote him to the rookie list. Vardy is likely gone simply because he is not.
We need to keep one of them nonetheless, with Williams, Jamieson (& Allen) the only other ruck options. Edwards could probably give a chop out though.

Think I saw on the back page of today’s West that both of these players will be offered 1 year deals for next year.

Happy for JK to go around 1 or at a pinch 2 more years but reckon Bunga should be depth at best next season. Need to prioritise games into Rotham ahead of him. Foley probably next cab off the rank for a HBF role if he survives the reduced list size cuts.

Rivers is the one we want . Get in his ear to not sign a contract.

Pace , big rig , good overhead and already playing well in the AFL environment.

I'm also thinking hutch may need to go . Out of contract and can't get on the park .

It may be a good year to freshen up our list and with hurn and Kennedy likely to go on another year other may not get the 1 year contract.

Out main list schoey jetta venables Watson hutch vardy
Out Rookies brayshaw treacy Reid Jones.

Players to target

Quinton narkle OOC
Kyron Hayden UFA
Jack lonie OOC
Oleg markov OOC

All apart from narkle would be on base wage and cost us nothing in draft picks .

But they all offer our list something and help with our list age profile

Why would we drop Jones? Showed plenty.

Regardless of any other thoughts, he's contracted for next year. Pretty sure Freo aren't going to accept a couple of 3rd rounders for him, "rebuilding" fire sale or not.

You just got rid of almost every one of our small forwards.

Cuts don't need to be that deep. Jones could stay, as could probably Treacy.

Hutch might be worthwhile keep just for depth.
