I would've thought other countries in the Asia-Pacific region will be added to the list eventually. I can see Fiji, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, South Korea and, even, Japan and China* being options as cases there are either low or being managed well.

*Still have suspicions about China as they're somehow yet to experience a second wave.
But not Indonesia?

That will not please the Adelaide board's most selfish poster.

The Age today reports:

"Victoria will not follow the NSW quarantine model by telling anyone linked to a coronavirus outbreak to self-isolate for 14 days even if their initial COVID-19 test result is negative...Premier Daniel Andrews said he does not want to divert resources from where they are needed most. "I don't want people sitting at home for 14 days when there's no good scientific reason for them to do that," he said.

Well, we are sitting at home, and we are doing so when "Deakin University epidemiology chair Catherine Bennett put the odds of contracting the virus in Melbourne at longer than 1 million to one, compared to around a 1 in 12,000 chance of being struck by lightning."

Thereby proving that she was unfit to hold her current position, as her maths skills were far below those required of someone in that job.

Today there have been 11 cases in Victoria, 9 of which were in Melbourne - none of which were from international arrivals. Melbourne's population is ~5M, so that's 1 in 450,000 chance of catching it just today. The odds get a whole lot higher if you go for a longer period.

My apologies for not being clearer. She said that last week, so it would not correlate to today's numbers, or yesterday's.

It doesn't correlate to any number Victoria has reported since the start of June.

There are currently 203 active cases in Victoria, down 3 from yesterday. That's a 1 in 25,000 chance of catching it, and the odds were a lot higher than that not long ago.

Her maths is completely screwed.

It's almost like this is something you've been trying to tell a certain poster here for a while now Jenny.

You and I may not agree on the Crows but I'm finding myself agreeing with you a lot on non football things.

It didn't work by the numbers when she said it.

I made a post in this thread disproving her on that same day (or might have been the next day).

Honestly it's why even medical experts defer to modellers and statisticians when it come to things. Both have an important role to play but someone with a very good medical knowledge doesn't mean they can do maths worth a damn.

Some countries are certainly closer to it than Australia though. Estimates in London is that 15-20% of the population now have some exposure to the virus. Who knows what that is likely to be once winter has been and gone.

Australias approach has been admirable so far, however I do think some of the measures have been over the top draconian (enforced hotel quarantine for citizens where you cannot leave a room). But if a vaccine does not come, they are backed into a corner somewhat as it will completely destory the tourism industry and I don't know how many Australians will stand for not being able to travel.
I’m thinking about getting a yacht. 😜

Would be the quickest way to catch up with her...
I moved to Broome in my mid 20’s to get into some kind of sailing tourism venture but got brought down to earth with all that “needing 1000 hours at sea requirements”. Ended up just continuing my trade. But maybe it’s time to get adventurous again.

Best thing about CV19 is the airport is empty except for me and my kids. So much nicer like this. 😃👍

Flying to Adelaide.
The guy next to me said something about Chianti but I could quite understand him.

This is not the Inquiry looking back months ago, this is this week in Melbourne. Absolutely, N95 masks should be provided by the hospital and staff shouldn't have to buy their own - but I can't get my head around the union not pushing for them to be allowed to, in the meantime. The Age today:

Nurses not allowed to wear own N95 masks
Aisha Dow

Staff working on a ward at Box Hill Hospital where a patient and nurse could have been infectious with coronavirus have been told they are not allowed to use N95 masks as a precaution against the disease.

The hospital outbreak grew to four yesterday, as another staff member was confirmed to have the infection, adding to the two nurses and one patient who tested positive this week. Health authorities are yet to establish how the outbreak started, but leaked emails between the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation and hospital officials suggest a patient in an acute ward earlier tested negative to coronavirus before testing positive on Wednesday.

The email exchange reveals that the hospital’s supply of N95 masks have been reserved for those working with the highest-risk patients and others are not permitted to wear them ‘‘even if they buy one’’...

Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Victorian branch secretary Lisa Fitzpatrick called for all staff working in clinical areas of hospitals to be given fitted N95 masks until health facilities were free of COVID-19 patients...

‘‘ANMF does not support staff bringing their own PPE of unknown and untested quality into work.’’

So various countries are now going back into lockdowns of varying degrees. Numbers are increasing

For those who don’t want to eliminate this for the foreseeable future - do you possibly think going into lockdown then out then in again then out is a good strategy?

Most of these countries would need to go full military state of emergency with curfews now to get rid of it. Could you imagine the US trying to lock down for 2-3 months. You’d have more deaths from guns than Cv19

Also you already have courts in Madrid Spain overruling the government lockdowns when community infections are out of control.

Huge problems in both Europe & USA... particularly heading into the next winter as death rate will increase.

under the NT version of the uniform WHS legislation it is actually against the law to cause a person to purchase or create a liability for their own PPE. Even contractors. So instead of telling a contractor that they needed to go and buy a hat, I’d say that they can’t enter site without one. A soulless job. Anybody that enjoys safety is a ********.

Most of the dangerous gun toting idiots are in the South so no issue there. They can go to their hearts content shooting each other.

I was just talking about this with my old man and he reckons a governor wanted to lock down and a group of right wing extremists planned to nab her and do a mock trial and execute her. I haven’t even googled this yet but I can see quite an ugly 2021 on the way for the states. Whoever is running the place it’s going to be very difficult to control with so much weaponry and polarised population. Civil war territory in some areas maybe.

This is same Governor who Trump told his followers to Liberate Michigan in a tweet in a previous lock down
