Any idea when NAB league looks like commencing? I can't find anything, I now the W are still going around but I would've thought a fixture would be up.
1st week of April

To add to this, they're getting the Girls season completely finished before starting the boys so there's not too much of an overload on the coaching staff

Yeah thought that RE the girls and they couldn't start until they were finished. Let's just hope no more lockdowns as they usually end up when the boys season (winter) kicks in...

it isnt fair to compare them at this stage because they havnt played the big pressure games in their draft year that make or break them, but if i had to guess how they would compare in the future if everything goes as planned ect, i really like next years top 5 moreso than i liked this years top 5, i'm a fan of how Wardlaw plays and how silky clean Ashcroft is and the workman like attitude of D'Aloia, then you have the skills on the outside of Tsatas and if he isnt allergic to contested footy he could be great too, at this stage i like...

=1. Wardlaw
=1. Ashcroft
3. JHF
4. Daicos
5. D'Aloia
6. Callaghan
7. Tsatas

thats my view from pre-season before they are really tested during their draft year.
Will be interesting if we win the spoon what we would do if Wardlaw was the stand out best available pick - inside mid is the least of our issues. We knocked back a big offer from the Crows last year - not sure we would do the same if a club came for Wardlaw as hard.

if North do finish bottom again, they might look at some of the KPP options, like Lemmey, Jefferson or Keeler, theres also a few other KPP that could rise into top 10 contention depending on how they develop, with KPP development and showing improvement is more important than other positions because its such a physical role and players tend to develop physically a lot between 16-18 and so their draft year is more important, if a KPP performs in their draft year they can rise to the top like Darcy, Amiss, McDonald, Thilthorpe, DGB ect and teams tend to like picking talls at the top usually, or you can take a player like Wardlaw/Tsatas whichever fits your team better and develop some mids into forwards/defenders?.

I'd be really surprised if the Kangas finish last. I think it's looking more like the Suns or Crows. Nevertheless, this year's draft like many other years has a lot of midfield depth so if a KPP rises into the top 10 I think they will could take the #1 spot. Teams also look fwd so if the 2023 draft is thin with KPP's then that could also play a role in how clubs prioritize their picks.

Interesting that folks think the Crows could be bottom.

Seven wins last year, and another five games within 12 points. Kids maturing, and add Milera, Crouch and Dawson.

Suns might battle, and it feels like it could be a really tough year for West Coast.

Yep wce are getting hammered by injury atm mainly our senior players .

I doubt we will win the spoon but bottom 4 could be a possibility especially if something happens to natanui. He wallpapers our midfield cracks

thoughts on the u17 game in the pre-season between GWS and Sydney Academies: (i think all are available for 2023 draft?)

GWS seem to have the better top end talent, whereas Sydney have a better structure and possibly better coached?

i have liked the look of #7 Nathan Fokes for GWS Academy(a few good plays early, beautiful sidestep and long pass to forward, kicked a lovely goal and was tough in the contest), #1 Harvey Thomas has also looked good for GWS Academy(even though he is small and slightly framed, won a few contests inside), i think its #30 Matthew Brown (i believe it was #30 hard to tell at times, but he intercepted a couple of inside 50's and used it cleanly) who has been good on CHB for GWS Academy as well

i also liked the look of #8 James Egan for GWS (used it well a few times, hit a forward, i think he also kicked a goal), #3 Daniel Gauci of GWS(inside mid won a few clearances), #13 Jack Rhodes for GWS(linking well as a general forward/mid), #21 Max Rider for Sydney(playing well as a general forw/mid) and #15 James Lugsdin for Sydney(winning a few clearances on the inside and providing a bit of run at times)

i think they are worth keeping an eye on for the next 18 months.

thoughts on the u19 game and Sydney have dominated 46-0, 64-14 1/2 time.

players that seem like players to watch for me are:
#27 Sydney - Angus Anderson - seems to be a dominant force for Sydney in the midfield, has already had 2-3 great plays
#31 Sydney - Liam Puncher - seems a decent KPF so far
#3 Sydney - Felix Rogers - tough small forward with some tricks up his sleeve
#22 Sydney - Bililign Robertson - looks like a solid general forward, makes good decisions
#13 Sydney - Toby Alker - has played well in mid and wing so far
#4 GWS - Jay Summers - has been one of the better winger/flanker so far
#40 GWS - Nick Madden - has taken some nice strong contested marks and strong in the ruck, is he related to the other Maddens?

I will put my Swans hat on (watched the game to see purely for future academy).

Cleary, Cabor, lugsdin and Hawkins all offered something. Need to see how they develop.

Cheshire looked classy. Only current downfall is his size.

Agree that GWS looked to have the better top end. I Was impressed with Bourgouts and Smith

Angus Anderson (Syd A) looked really good, but as an 18 year old in his overage year he might need to do everything right to get his name out there, but he started the year well.

Really good effort to spot those numbers with the sun and colour scheme combo, did you have any thoughts on #10 Indhi Kirk and #16 Woodford?

i didnt really make notes for the 2 games i watched, i just noted down players that had multiple good plays and looked like players to keep track of, so i probably missed a few.

GCS V Bris u17 Game (110-44), i thought 5 players from each team stood out from the rest, none i would put in my top 30 for 2023 at this stage.

GCS:
#1 Harry Sullivan - small forw/mid
#8 Ky Nicholls - inside mid, clearance player
#14 Jack Atkins - mid
#19 Maison Staas - tallish flanker
#20 Ryder Forbes - played FF with sticky hands and accurate kick, but probably medium height

Bris:
#11 Zack Bidgood - mid
#14 Jake Fazldeen - inside/outside mid
#16 Tyler Whiteley - mid
#19 Tristen Meekin - mid
#24 Mathew Bowart - KPD interceptor

the 2 standouts were probably Ky Nicholls and Ryder Forbes for GCS.

GCS V Bris u19 Game (103-28), some familiar names like Ned Stevens, Will Bella and Jye Lockett, along with Jaspa Fletcher playing wing for a losing team and unfortunately even though he was named Levi Fyffe didnt get to run out on the field.

the players who stood out to me were:
#33 Will Bella - GCS - 19 yr old, playing his overage year and still a strongly built KPF and played a strong game once again
#29 Jed Foggo - GCS - played midfield and forward, quality talent that i had not seen or heard of before, but was impressive
#27 Jye Lockett - GCS - 19 year old?, he was a dangerous med/tall forward
#18 Jaspa Fletcher - Bris - didnt get a heap of the ball with his inside mids getting beaten, but was effective when he did get the ball, one of few Bris highlights, very much an outside mid, tried to win a few contests inside and came out of it a bit roughed up.
#32 Jed Walter - GCS - athletic tall forward, exciting talent, i can see why he got invite to the Australian Squad, the Forward line of Bella, Lockett, Walter is a possible Allies forward line, Ned Stevens also played, but i thought he was ok whereas the other 3 showed something special at times.
#8 William Graham - GCS - quick intense wing/mid, was involved in some smooth and competitive plays, someone to look out for

mentions: #31 Jackson Mills and #6 Jack Manly looked ok for Brisbane and #4 Cody Harrington looked ok for GCS

disclaimer, i have not seen enough of Will Elliot or Luke. Brown. to make a call on whether they are top 40 or not and Conrad Williams(Frem NGA) was probably unlucky not to be in the top 40 also.
Some of the WA and SA boys already showing some early form getting a taste of senior footy in practice matches (SANFL & WAFL) last and this weekend. NAB kicks off their official practice games next weekend. I would love to see the Vic top talent get some senior experience this year but the Vic pathway doesn’t allow for it..

only the overagers can play VFL all season, but i think recently they have allowed kids in their draft year to play a couple of games in the VFL, we saw Sonsie and i think Daicos play a game or 2 in 2021.

it is good to see some SA and WA kids play against men, but i rate championship games equal to playing against SANFL/WAFL competition and maybe even a better comparison considering that more AFL quality talent plays in the u19 champs than in the SANFL/WAFL and they are comparing their skills against similar sized opponents, i know that that may not be the most popular view, the positives about playing against men is seeing how they compete against the bigger bodies which can intimidate a few of the kids when they do take the next step, but as far as skill and talent i prefer the u19 champs as theres at least 10-20 that become AFL champions within the next 3-4 years in that comp, whereas theres maybe 3-5 in the SANFL/WAFL that become AFL champions within the next 3-4 years from those comps.

i think it can be an advantage to prove yourself at the 2nd tier, but it isnt a detriment to the Vic Kids for not playing against men imo.

Brisband A V GWS A (fairly poor game between these 2 Academies with a few standouts)

Jaspa Fletcher got involved in a couple pieces of play early, winning a tough ball handing it off then getting it again a few seconds later to snap the first goal of the game, good to see him get a tough ball then get up for a play soon after, played a little more contested footy as he doesnt get fed a lot, Brisbane Academy dont play the greatest footy.

Madden looks like a decent player for GWS A as well, ended up with 2 goals and a bunch of contested marks

Manly for Brisbane has also had a good game, clean disposal so far, just a strong inside mid.

Summers kicking a couple including the match winning goal on the siren for GWS A

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sydney A V GCS A (a much better skilled game, some good talent here for both sides)

there were 4 standouts for me in this game

Syd:
Luke Giacometti - had a fantastic game in midfield, looks a talent
William Edwards - KPD, tall athletic defender, also looks a talent

GCS:
Jed Foggo - tallish mid/flanker, has been really good in 2 pre-season games for Gold Coast
Finn Brown - strong inside mid, was probably GCS's best on ground

mentions: Wiliem Smit, James Tildeman, Jordan Edmend, Toby Alker, Caleb May(Athletic Ruck), Liam Puncher (Sydney) --- Ned Stevens, Riley Stone (Gold Coast)
