Essendon is going to be ripe for pillaging at the end of this year, who should we go after? I think we should make a very strong play at Jake Carlisle, he is out of contract at the end of the year and is coming good.

Is this worth a new thread or is there one already?

Jake Carlisle would be fantastic. Hibberd could be worth a look too if available but I think he extended his contract last year.

Does anyone here feel sorry for the players??
What I mean by this is, these guys just want to play footy, and have been instructed by the the club and Doctor, who they should be able to trust, to have these.
Surely, in my eyes anyway, nearly every single player in the AFL would place their whole trust into their sides club Doctor and coaches.
I really hope the players don't get stung too much, but they go very heavy on those that implemented the regime.

Though IF you are signing something you don’t have to sign. Wouldn’t you be tad Fishy on what was going on?

No.
They are adults and they can say no to anything that didn't feel right as they are educated to contact asada about taking supplements to check if they are on the banned list first.
Every other pro sports athlete does this and its apart of being a professional athlete and you have to take responsibility for your own actions by saying no and checking the asada list first.

I know what you mean TD, but I can't help but feel there would/should be a complete trust between player and club medico, that you wouldn't blink twice.
I know it hasn't turned out that way, but, you should be able to trust the people in charge of such a large organisation.

I hear you you Pop, but as I said to TD, This is your career, your life.
These guys have drafted you.
They have committed to you.
You should be able to trust your clubs Docs and coaches.

You sign a contract with a tour de france team and they pay some riders millions a year and the team and dr's have a injection drug program on you and you and your team get 2 year bans.
You cant have one rule for one sport and another rule for another sport under asada/wada just because it's played in australia only.
You have to ban them the same as a cycling team/rider.

The buck stops with you when your an athlete, Everey athlete who has been caught always uses the excuse about i didn't know as my dr and coach gave it to me like :rolleyes::rolleyes: how many times do you hear that excuse:D:D:D Marion Jones

sorry....no
i will add i couldnt give a stuff about the players. ban them, let them off, dont care.

HOWEVER

there are many people that need removal from our game.
everyone in a role at that club in 2012, from top to bottom. out.
from where i sit, every news journo needs sacking. theyve been shitful throughout.
every afl board and exec from 2012.
essendon supporters need to hang their head in shame for allowing this saga to go beyond their 2013 agm.
they can all go follow soccer.

thatll do for now.

Let's say hypothetically the players are penalised harshly for this. I would definitely feel for them as they would have been pressured by that cult style club to drink the cool aid but at the end of the day, they need to be made an example of.

In nearly every professional sport in the world the onus is on athletes to do the right thing and check. No player at Essendon checked even though they signed waivers, went off site and took drugs intravenously.

I'm sorry but there needs to be an example made at least as a wake up call.

Hey guys, I'm not saying they should get off.
They have done wrong.
They have taken a banned drug.
They should cop a ban.
But as I've said before, if you can't trust your Doctor, who can you trust.
(and for anyone old enough to need a Prostate exam, you will know what I mean.)

and the arseh*le Hird said he did not care what Eddie Said.

He does not want to Admit he is Wrong and he is making the AFL a Joke
I really hird has some seriously deep and dark secrets to hide hence the 2 court cases. Whether that is presuring players into not question and doing the drugs or simply knowing exactly what was going on I'm not sure.. But he seems like he has a lot to hide

Their doctor didn't give them all these injections. He actually wrote a letter saying he was upset it was happening.... I actually feel sorry for Reid as I truely think hird pushed the whole agenda with dank and left Reid somewhat in the dark.

No, because the players are
* Responsible for what goes into their body
* At anytime they could have said "no" as a couple of players did without any peer pressure being placed on them
* Not one of the players who was injected asked, their Manager, the AFLPA, the AFL or ASADA for advice
Even on a scale of sheer stupidity they deserve to be suspended, but in any event some players knew there was "good stuff and bad stuff".
They are not innocent 'bystanders' in all this and if found guilty they should be punished accordingly

That was nothing more than an "arse covering" exercise by Reid
He did nothing after that letter and was even present when some kids were injected

Two different things
Suspension = AFL
$ = Essendon
The suspension was meant to be without pay. The AFL banned Essendon from paying his regular wage, but then backflipped and let them pay him in a lump sum.

It was a weak move by the AFL to allow the payment, however you spin it.

I think it's pretty clear the club doctor never endorsed these injections. And in fact the entire club went against the doctors advise... This includes the individual players.

I don't consider facts to be spin

The only thing the AFL has/had control over is Footy Department TPP as Essendon are Hird's employer.
They can pay him what ever they like (within the TPP), the AFL has no say in it. The AFL cannot prevent him from being paid and it is the reason AD quickly back tracked after he got briefed.
