Intrigued by what North and Essendon do with their picks ? North are in a good position to pick up a couple of sliders and bolster the depth of their list.

Think they are in good shape going forwards (finals probably a tad beyond them in 2020 though), but that pick swap with the Dees gives them an wonderful opportunity to pick up another gun kid and trade for an out of contract star at the end of next season.

We look set to potentially get 3 of Robertson, Bianco, Gould, Rivers, Rantall, Schoenberg, Jones, Taylor, Ralphsmith or Sharp.

Balmer had us getting Bianco, Rivers and Sharp this morning.

Which is a pretty good position to be in at the moment with 2 x 2020 First Rounders to leverage off clubs with NGA & Academy kids looking to get ahead of their bids next year.

You act like all the deals are trailblazing moves that no other club has come close to achieving? He's done what's EXPECTED of what any decent list manager should do yet you act like he's the messiah.

-Tom Bell and pick 23 for Charlie Curnow
Gotta love this selective narrative to exclude the whole deal - Why mention "pick 23" and not the player? But Charlie Curnow is mentioned by name and not pick? Is that because Pick 23 ended up being Josh Dunkley?
-Henderson for Harry McKay
Good deal.
-Gibbs for two first round picks
Because no other club has made another (in a premiership window) pay overs for an older player? Just like GWS gave up 2 first rounders for Deledio which Richmond turned into 3 picks? I don't see Richmond fans declaring Blair Hartley as the greatest list manager of all time. He's just doing his job.
-pick 4 (Ash) for 19 (Stocker), 17 (Kemp) and 20 (Philp)
Still will never understand how Stocker is seen as a star, he was moved to Half back in the VFL because he couldn't find the ball in the midfield - pretty damning for "one of the best mids in the draft". I'll hold fire about claiming this as a win and you didn't even know who Philp was before last night.
-Yarran for Cuningham
Great win, pat yourself on the back for not supporting a player with a drug addiction and selling high. Have a quick Google mate. As for Cuningham, what on earth has this bloke done? If anything its a slight win because Yarran had addiction and Cuningham has played some games? I think?
-Jack Martin for nothing
The biggest winner here is the bloke getting a front loaded sweet 1 million dollars, hopefully he doesn't check out once the front loading is over - see Dayne Beams at Brisbane.

Let me be clear, I don't hate the bloke, I just hate the notion that he's some mastermind list manager because he isn't. He's not terrible, he's just a run of the mill last manager.

The fact of the matter is that SOS has done his role, nothing more and is being walked out of the office on Monday morning - That's the reality. He's been sacked but I'm sure you'll see it was a mutual decision so your messiah remains untarnished.

So i didn't watch the draft last night - if i want to watch tonight do i have to watch day 1?

I hate watching the sequel of a movie when you haven't watched the first one

Just watch the highlights, in terms of Carlton watch from pick 9 onwards.

1- SOS is god we all know it
2- Everyone seemed to know about Yarrans issues but Richmond, maybe they could have used google?

Back to the draft discussion

Na but then i might see a recruiter i havnt seen and be wondering what he did in part 1 of the draft........is he integral to the draft part 1 and is he a major player in draft part 2....

Not really. You can easily watch tonight having not watched last night

Which deal will be remembered as SOS’s best?

-Tom Bell and pick 23 for Charlie Curnow
-Henderson for Harry McKay
-Gibbs for two first round picks
-pick 4 (Ash) for 19 (Stocker), 17 (Kemp) and 20 (Philp)
-Yarran for Cuningham
-Jack Martin for nothing

Or are there other mastermind deals that I’m forgetting

It’s actually pick 6 (McAsey), GWS 2020 first, Flanders for Stocker, Kemp and Philp

Do we really have to have endless debates about this now. From what I can tell they've both gained talented youngsters that have the ability to be very special players.

We can't tell who 'won'. But I'd say both Adelaide and Carlton would be happy with how it all worked out.

Nuffies like to argue everything and anything

What talent did Essendon add to their list?

And you cant include keeping players that desperately want out
Who said anything about Essendon? I’m not the one making delusional statements about my team making finals next year because of the addition of 2 18 year old kids.

My club hasn’t won a final in 15 going on 16 years, my optimism dried up years ago.

A bit puzzled by the 2hrs allocated prior to draft night 2 for clubs to complete draft pick swaps. I'm tipping 1 or no trades get done.

What benefit is there in making those deals before the draft?

At best they'll have tentative arrangements made just incase player X is available at pick Y. But they won't execute them till the live pick arrives surely?

Unless you've got the first pick of the night, there's no guarantees the player you're aiming for will be available at the upgraded pick you target.

Pointless.

The question will be if Carlton having Stocker and Kemp is worth not having Young.

The next five years will be interesting in a chat over a cheese on a cracker sort of way in regards to this.

And Philp.
But yes, this is what it will distill down to from our side.

Unless round one messed up plans and they need to get earlier picks to show they are trying.

Last year there was a backlog of trades at the start of the second day which took a while for the AFL to process. This will clear them.

Roger, makes sense if there's a demand for it I suppose. I just can't see why you'd want to from a list managers perspective.
The earlier pick swaps that occured only happened in advance as one side knew they were gaining something (get ahead of acadamey bids).

the reason this trade is continuing to be discussed is because of all the ridicule that the countless nuffies heaped on SOS and Carlton after last years stocker trade.

The irrational hate of SOS by those who are jealous peaked in the first half of last year, and then when we turned it around and the trade stopped looking like a complete disaster for us, the narrative then changed to ‘we don’t know who’s ahead and how the trade will work out’

anyway, we went from a position first half of last year of giving up potentially pick 1 this draft for stocker and a potential pick 15, to giving up pick 6 for Stocker, Kemp and Philp (all those 3 picks made on day one of the draft).

This isn’t about who wins the Stocker trade, it’s continuing to be talked about as a ‘told you so’ to all those idiots that are now hiding under their rock after being shown to be complete morons with their predictions of the stocker trade.!

Trade such as that are always risky. Who would Melbourne rather have now- J.Kelly or Salem/Tyson?
