Review Draft Review

With the exception of Moore and Cox we have drafted five players whose height varies between 185 and 187 cms. I'm glad there were no short people but we could have picked at least one taller player!!!!

Me to, McLaren went who I was keen on but don't think Keitel got nabbed.

Got to have faith that Hine knows what he's doing in terms of building the list but with so many similar types the pressure is really going to come onto the Dwyer, Armstrong, Fasolo, Blair, Sinclair, Ramsay types to cement a spot in 2015 or risk being moved on. Add Freeman and Scharenberg from last draft and it will be very intense.

Indeed. Especially Dwyer and Sinclair in my opinion. As well as the much maligned Blair. You coudl probably add Thomas to that list but I for one think Thomas will make it.

The recruitment of Maynard and Manteit reaffirms my thoughts that we see Scharenberg as a midfielder first and foremost. It is clear we need greater depth and quality in the midfield and with some depth in our back options that frees Scharenberg up for that role. Very clever.

I hate to say it but how long can tooves hang in there from this sick draft season we just had to add to the last two :)

I don't think he is hanging in there. Toovey is best 18 every day of the week. We can't bleed all the experience out of the team. The Possum will continue quietly going about his business of stitching up every forward he plays on.

Until the kids go past him cos they can kick with tooves reaching near 30 soonish cos we cant have tooves, williams, brown, all in the back line in the future as the game is about kicking now like the hawks and swans.

The game will always have room for a defender who defends. Defenders need to defend first, attack second. There is no better pure defender in the game than Possum. But it is fair to say we seem to have the succession plan in place.

Still 3 years till he hits 30. Hopefully he will be much better next season too, as he wont be coming off a reco.

It's amazing what a full preseason can do for a player. I expect Abbott to be less tubby by March too :p

Personally I would hope we would never waste pick 6 on a specialist permanent half back flanker. Your theory has merit.

I'd hope so. Scharenberg is far too talented to play as a half back. Although i'm not sure how he went in the midfield in his junior years.

Have no doubt Scharenberg will be a midfielder. Buckley told me himself only minutes after we recruited him last year, which at the time seemed a bit of a shock as I saw him as the perfect general down back. But the recruiting of Langdon, Maynard and now Manteit, as said earlier, reaffirms Scharenberg as a midfielder.

Langdon is actually earmarked for an eventual move to the midfield too.

Imagine Pendles, Shazza and Langdon all running through the midfield. Nobody will be complaining about how small our mids are anymore, that's for sure!

This whole basketball thing is weird and doesn't make any sense. AFL is a 360 game as well. So how are people any better at that coming from basketball than people who played football. If you natural have no awareness around you then it doesn't matter if you play basketball or not it won't help.

In addition to what others have written ... when playing basketball you learn not just to be aware of what you can see, but also what you can't see.

That covers things like ...

- process of elimination, if you can see 3 opposition in front of you, it means there are 2 elsewhere.

- set plays - knowing where your team-mates are and what they're doing without looking or thinking.

Easy to find via search function with posted by limited to your username and Maynard in search options. I couldn't quote it as in a closed thread.

Congrats on your call and getting what you wanted!

DaVe86 's prediction here ...

For me it's all about topping up the midfield. Ideally guys taller than 185cm. We have pace with freeman, Kennedy, Broomhead, Varcoe, Crisp, Elliott, Williams, young.

I'm still keen on de goey as a guy that can play just about anywhere but could be thrown onto the ball for impact.

Otherwise Laverde but I would like to develop an inside game.

Then at pick 30 I would go midfielder again. If Blakely is available that's perfect! Otherwise could look at Maynard and build that tank to play midfield.

Then at 48 I'd be getting the crumbing forward. Unless Mckenzie slips that far then I'd lock him in.

Having a bit of a look at the draftees videos on the Club website it's certainly very encouraging to see Moore and De Goey expressing how honoured they are to play for Collingwood, how much they understand it means to the fans and the sense of responsibility they feel in coming to a club like this. It will make a refreshing change to have a younger playing group that seem to want to play for the jumper next year, rather than blokes fussing over their contracts, spruiking their egos and carrying on like celebrities.

Marley Williams says high.

Because he isn't a pure back flank. He can play as a rebounder, key defender or a third tall and is excellent at reading the play, dropping of his man and intercept marking.

The GWS recruits said the same thing so your point is moot. They are taught to say that at their media training

So we have
30 M30re / M30
35 DGo
37 Maynard - nickname???
38 Goodyear - nickname?
39 Moob (man boob)
41 Yaaabbot
