I watched darrou on TV, and I think it's the same guy your talkin about. He didn't look much chop to me. His turned it over by foot a shitload of times and boy was he lazy, he does have a good build though, and maybe he just had an off day. But if it is the same bloke and the performance I seen, then I'm saying no thanks on darrou

On Darrou, he's only a kid in his first season remember, but big yes!

Wouldn't say no to Charlie Dixon, big defender, by the way how's Bathie progressing?
Hopefully well considering our winning ways in the two's, no chance this year by the looks.

I have an idea which interstate player Geelong should go after next, now that Travis Boak has commited to Port Adelaide, and , at the same time, we screw over those clubs who have taken from us in the past.

I suggest that we go after Josh Caddy from the Gold Coast. He is out of contract, and he could be a handy addition to our team.

Also, we could pinch him from GC, and claim that it is retaliation for stealing Gary Ablett off us.

Also, Essendon want him, and if we get him instead, we screw over Essendon as well, and it can be revenge for stealing Mark Thompson off us.

So, under my plan, we get a good player, and get some vengeance on GC and Essendon, who stole from us.

Who cares? What's it got to do with us?

Bit rude mate - I think he is suggesting that we try to have a crack at Reid. Would be a brilliant get and perfect replacement for Scarlett but would have to give up a fair bit and convince the Pies to deal with us.

Fair enough, I apologise in that case! Bit quick with the finger (morning coffee hadn't had the desired effect).

I'd have Tara Reid at fullback ahead of Ben.
The bloke is the backline version of Brett Spinks - f'íng useless.

Disagree JJ, he had a brilliant year last year up until he got injured at the end, and still quite young. Would be ideal.

Reid's tricky, really really good young player and fits our list needs, but with his extensive history of soft tissue injuries, you have to weigh that risk against the high cost of acquiring him. FWIW I can only see him leaving here for Sydney/GWS anyway.

Yeah chances are he'll just cost too much.

There's also questions about his 1 on 1 ability. It's risky to pay a lot for a defender that aren't actually proven as a true defender. Mitch Brown's slightly taller and has similarly good kicking skills and footy brain. Much better backing our club to develop what we've got rather than relying on paying over the odds.

Honestly I don't see why we'd be chasing anybody during the trade period now. Caddy at a pinch maybe but frankly I'd back wells with an extra first rounder to do well.

Just reported on HS website that he is about to re-sign for the Pies anyway, but they are postponing the Cloke negotiations until the end of the year. How the hell are they fitting everybody in? Eddie has a lot of contacts for "3rd party deals" i guess...

Special guests on Fox Footy and their new show 'Under Eddies Desk'

Reid's a girl....one of the worst AA selections in recent times. Every time I have watched him of late his opponent has a bigger influence on the game than he does and I see that pathetic look on his face that reminds me of his GF performance. Frankly I don't think he has ever recovered from the drilling he got in that game. A poor mans Sam Gilbert.

OK..he had one very good season...and maybe he will get it back....I'd prefer Schoenclangers myself. :D

They won't keep everyone, and they know it. The only question is whether they lose a star, or a depth player or two or three, as we did during our flag years. They would probably prefer it was the latter.

That's the thing though, Collingwood seem to be somehow fitting all their players, with the exception of Cloke, in to their salary cap with consummate ease. A list of players that includes what is for all intents and purposes their entire midfield group - first graders and depth players - have already re-signed. How they have managed to keep Pendlebury, Swan, Thomas, Sidebottom, Beams and Wellingham is beyond me, but Buckley seems to have pulled it off. Indications are that Reid will also re-sign sooner rather than later. All of the aforementioned are in the prime of their career and, Wellingham aside, all have proven themselves a-grade footballers.

Losing Cloke would be a massive structural blow for the Pies, but in the end he's only one guy. If they can find a servicable replacement, or Dawes comes good, then Collingwood could emerge as the winner if Cloke leaves the club and they get a high compensation pick. You would have to worry that Cloke has done such a fine job marketing himself as the million dollar man that the AFL will overcompensate the Pies, when in reality they would just be getting rid of a decent contested mark with an errant left foot and an underwhelming football resume including only one season of more than 40 goals. If I were a Collingwood supporter I would much rather lose Cloke than a couple of their promising young players, i.e. Beams, Reid, Wellingham etc.

Also our trade record over the last five years shows the "lose either a star or a couple of depth player" theory is a false dichotomy. We've lost both Ablett - more than a star; a superstar, the best player in the game - plus hugely promising youth and depth players including Mumford, Laidler, and Prismall. That's a serious list of names...imagine if we had Mumford, Ablett and Laidler right now. Not that I'm blaming the club; it's obviously a very tight squeeze to fit everyone in the cap, I'm just amazed at Collingwood's ability to do so.

Collingwood lost stacks of depth at the end of 2010 - Fraser and Medhurst come to mind as ones who would have been on decent coin. They've also lost depth along the way in guys like Dick and Macaffer and they've got a massive contract problem in Cloke looming.

Gunna watch Luke thompson tomorrow, hopefully he goes all right but doesnt star.
Mission accomplished.

I'd still go after him...without the brass band of course.

When playing like today , one can get fooled into think we need not get anyone. Chappy was solid when it counted and without him and SJ our forwardline would look less threatening, West continues to improve but will never be the best in the AFL. Enright, Hunt, etc will have to be replace soon.

But today we had a spine thats got plenty of years in it. Hawkins, Walker, Taylor, Lonergan and we have plenty of young mids getting games into them. I'm not convinced we have to sell the farm for one good player , we just need to add to very promising young group. It gets down to how much time we want to give the kids. By 2015 some of these guys will be looking to shine.

If a potential star ruckman became available then perhaps but otherwize lets keep on keeping on !!

Agreed Turbo. I am often disturbed by the eagerness of some on this board to dispense with some of our proven players for players who are not consistent performers at less successful clubs than ours.

The future of the forward line looks very good. Hawkins is still very young and is becoming something of a monster to defenders. And I think that the forward line would be more potent with a couple of med-talls in Menzel and Kersten on the flanks to provide marking options. Menzel caused havoc for Collingwood and Hawthorn before his injury in 2011. They not only had to worry about Hawkins and Pods but with the extra mobile marking option spread the work load over a wider area. Throw in a couple of clever quick smalls the likes of Varcoe, Motlop for balance in the pockets.

If a potential star ruckman became available then perhaps but otherwise lets keep on keeping on !!

Yep. As we did with Ottens. Although at the time we were pursuing a key forward and got a top line ruck instead.

I do recall C.Scott saying that he wanted players to be versatile. NB Harry Taylors' work deep in the forward line this year. I would not be surprised in the future if young athletic players like Hamling and Walker had spells back and forward.

So Rabbi...how does this look for a 2014 line up........

Guthrie Lonergan Enright

Mackie Taylor Kelly

Motlop Duncan Varcoe

Menzel Walker Bartel

Smedts Hawkins SJ

Simpson Selwood Christensen

Take your pick for the bench...but West Brown Sheringham Sub: Murdoch

And that presumes Kersten is out injured...lol....

Lots of inside...lots of outside pace and a pretty good Goal to Goal line.....

Looks competitive to me.
