Reverse psychology and media attention for the Lions? :D

A Blue who broke blood ties

If Brisbane was fixated in 2005, the lust for Murphy ended when he spurned them and was selected by the Blues with the first pick of that year's draft.

Both Voss and Brown were unwilling to dwell on what might have been yesterday, apart from remarking that "apparently we pick on him". The Lions champion was reported for rough conduct against the Blue in April while Rob Copeland ended any hope Murphy had of winning the 2006 Rising Star Award when laying a crunching tackle that outed him with a shoulder injury for the last nine weeks of his rookie season.

Murphy, who has established himself as a midfielder of the highest calibre, admitted yesterday it was bizarre that his first final comes against a side he shares history with.

"I suppose it is a bit ironic that my first final is going to be against Brisbane," he said. "But that was five years ago now that I was up there chatting with them, so it is a fair way gone."

Went out to Visy Park this morning to watch the boys train, and I use the word train very loosely.

About 10 players, including Fevola, O'Hailpin, Yarran, Simpson, Thornton & Carrazzo went to the The Legends Stand end for goalkicking practice. That's all they did for the hour or so they were on the track.

The remainder of the group spent the session in front of the Pratt Stand doing many handball drills, and they had to get into groups of 2-6 when David Teague called a number. For instance, he called 4, and 4 players had to form a circle and handball to each other. Those who couldn't get into a group, had to do pushups.

They did this for a solid 35 or so minutes, and then they split into 2 groups. One group was all VIC players, and the other group was made up of WA/SA/QLD/NT/TAS players. Each group stood in two lines facing each other (like the little league players do when the sides run out after half time) and had to handball 10 balls to each other up the line, and then back again. Amazing how competitive these games are.

And that was basically it. Half the group went back inside, whilst the other half just had a kick-to-kick.

Main session will be tomorrow, if I have some time, I might be able to go out there and give another report.

Today, Blues coach Brett Ratten quickly declared that Black and Bradshaw were perhaps not as hurt as the Lions suggest.

"We'll expect Simon Black to play - looking back at the tape, he did grab his buttock-hamstring area, but he was very close to the interchange," Ratten said.

"It wasn't that far to go off the ground and he didn't go off, so we think it might be more cramp than anything else.

"We expect him to play - Bradshaw we know would be 50-50, so we'll wait and see.

"We'll be putting them in our calculations, for sure."

good to hear

Whatever your reason - attack the post if you wish but not the poster, two wrongs do not make a right. I am over the abuse - read my sig

I dont see a little mod symbol under your name, so you can be all over the abuse all you like.

And I didnt see you pulling him up for his abuse of me in the match day thread...

Who abused you Dramoth? And what was said?

nosaints was abusing me after I called him a troll for calling ratts a second rate coach.

He was actually getting quite personal which is possibly why I reacted like I did in this thread

Fair enough, no good.

Huh?

Does that strike anyone else as being a bit odd?

Thanks for the report HBF.:thumbsu:

I reckon all the pressure is on the Lions here, won the home final, haven't lost a final at the Gabba, big expectation from the home crowd. Blues go in with a good recent history over them...plus they have a few injury concerns.
I watched them last week against Sydney and they were less than convincing, Swans kept breaking down at half forward. Lions wilted massively under pressure, they were up 40 odd points, just caved in, whether that was coaching issues I;m not sure.

Expect them to be physical early, Blues could seriously run away with this in the end.

Why? Surely due to a lack of goals in his career, he would need the practice more than anyone.

Contingency plan - simple as that I'd say. Bradshaw's in doubt, Setanta may go down back, their defence will already be streched - room for Thornton to have a spell in the forward line if need be.

Thornton regularly has goal kicking practice. I've kicked the ball back to him a few times when I'm down there :)

I guess there will be no point watching the game now that we already know the outcome. Looks like I will have to make alternative plans for Saturday night. I was so looking forward to this game, too. Oh well, never mind.

Yep, lucky for me I ain't making the trip. Would've been a big waste of $550 ;)
