For all the doom and gloom on here about our list, the Giants draw showed us that we are moving in the right direction again.

Let's break it down by games played (and ages) for the younger blokes in the current 22:
  • Seb Ross - 86 games, 25
  • Luke Dunstan - 72 games, 23
  • Jack Billing - 69 games, 23
  • Tom Hickey - 68 games, 27
  • Tim Membrey - 53 games, 24
  • Blake Acres - 49 games, 22
  • Jack Sinclair - 49 games, 23
  • Jade Gresham - 45 games, 20
  • Jack Steele - 41 games, 22
  • Paddy McCartin - 27 games, 22
  • Ben Long - 9 games, 20
  • Brandon White - 7 games, 21
  • Hunter Clarke - 3 games, 19
  • Nick Froffield - 3 games, 18
That is a list of 14 players who all (except an underdone Membrey) had an impact yesterday, some had very good games. It is a terribly young and inexperienced list. Then there are the fringe players of Marshall and Battle who are considered every week.

I think the questions should be about coaching. Is the coaching group a) going to take us to a flag b) maximising our list's potential c) smart enough to adapt and innovate?

They're the big questions that need to be answered in the next season or two. Our list isn't the issue IMO. It has its limitations, as does every list, and we can continue to plug the holes through drafting, FA and trading. However there is enough talent and skill there to take us to the top.

But it comes down to the coaching group.

The fact that the GOAT is only 22 and we potentially will be seeing him running around for another 10 years actually gets me more than a little excited.

Not too mention Froffeild, Sincs, Gresh, Clark, Long...

agree mate

although i'm not sold on clark yet

Gee you don't mind calling it early. I think Clark is the norm, with him starting slowly. Coffield is the unusual one, he's hit the ground playing like 100 game veteran.

Well let’s hope you are completely wrong.

Clark looks the more talented & has a few more tricks however Froffield looks like an absolute pro & sure thing to have a very good career.

clark has so much time, he's three games in, when he gets to fifty it'll be like time stops. Has more time than acres had 3 games in, and now acres seems to do as he pleases more often than not. Great signs. Coffield too has time on his side in more ways than one, but definitely in a different way to clark.

super happy we got both, they're seriously gonna set us up for our next tilt

Yeah I think his game should translate really well once he settles in. He's still very slight and isn't ready for the hard hits and combat game yet so doesn't run head down into packs like he did against the kids. He's a very skilled one touch player with double sided disposal, that will come in handy.

His one-touch pick up at pace and offload in the last quarter in the middle was very impressive. I haven't seen a lot of him but that left an indelible impression on me.

Don't worry about Clark, he'll be fine with a bit more meat on his rig and a bit more of an experienced swagger. He's like a kid in his first year of school.

Coffield seems more of the kind of guy who fakes his swagger before he really feels it inside but both will be guns in a couple of years.

Clark just needs a couple of pre seasons. Watching him closely, he's fine for 5min intervals and then is sucking in the big ones.

This is normal. The kid is 19yo with half a pre season.

Turn that puppy fat into muscle and build that tank - he'll be a star. Has all the attributes of an elite midfielder.

The recent podcast with Stephen Milne details the same type of practice routine. It's not rocket science, it seems like the most obvious thing in the world. I've no idea what the routine is at the Saints, but clearly something has to change.

I think even Spud said on one of the program that sports scientists should not overrule coach's call.

I don't even understand how we have a sports science department. Surely it's just a uni student with a weed and video game addiction who does 2 days a week at the club for $8 an hour. His research consists of spending every toilet break on the internet on his phone. Luckily he has to go to the toilet a lot because he also eats a shitload of pizza.

And his name is Gherkin

Great post.

Says a lot about our patience or lack there of.
We all want success and hopefully now White, Long, Clark, Froff and Paddy showing that pumping games into kids has benefits.

We will send players out injured no problems but let them practice...**** no.

I remember Richo ( Tigers ) running out for a warm-up before a game. While the others were kicking the ball around he did push ups.
They asked him wouldn't he be better practising goal kicking .
he said something like "mate... i practise goal kicking , and they all go through, then during the game it just doesn't work. I just thought i'd try something different. "
