Not sure how they continue to put Greg in the best week in week out, maybe they do what the umpires do & look at disposals sheet at the end of the game. Rather than looking how effective she is, as she is a liability with the ball in her hands.
Agreed, kicks direct to oppo, handballs to the ground with no pressure - all possessions!

She frustrated the heck out of me , I usually defend Greg but when we cough up the ball strt to oppo as an un forced error that’s just so costly usually in corridor too ,,,,she wasn’t only one , but is a regular culprit

Port rested a few but really GWS should not have lost that.
7.1 to 6.6 and three goals in the last quarter to Port.
Bad footy and a terrible call with the sling tackle in the last min that resulted in a goal for Port to take the lead.

We are a better team than Port.
If we don’t progress past this game we’ve really underachieved for the year.
We are better than Port, show that before. We are better than Essendon, nearly showed that before. It's the 'nearly' part that worries me. We get in winning positions and and seem to lose composure too easily and make dumb choices.

I hope we look to add jones into the team , Luke doesn’t offer much , we’re lacking for options in f50 . CJ has a knack of bobbing up ,,,bet it doesn’t happen tho she appears out of favour
At 35 she's not our future, but Luke hasn't been all bad. She competes, loves handling the footy and giving it off. Saves Kelly some grunt work. That said, if CJ still has a future with us, would rather she got the experience of a final than Luke. She's training presumably so should be as keen as keen.

Ess losing toogood has put paid to any chance they had

I dunno maybe its just me but just when I think we should lock it in at a stoppage we give this little 20 cm crap handball that goes to the oppo and they clear it away or score. Greg does this a lot but isn't the only one so it must be a team thing to keep the ball moving. Just not smart sometimes especially in the backline.

In saying that I reckon the girls are jumpy about getting pinged with the ball. I reckon we must be leading the comp in head scratching HTB decisions. One against Demps last game was TV breaking stuff.

i can't believe all the hype when we got Greiser as she is useless. Haven't followed us much this season and watching the game I was going w the f is this hardly recognized them. Anyway seems like another disappointing year coming to an end can't wait for all the hype for the next recruits. PS AFL CGAGF TAKING THE GAMES OFF THE AFL WEBSITE in favor of mr Foxtel.

Greiser's hype was all about getting a forward who could kick 50m and to be fair has kicked some handy long range goals as well as some freaky ones. Can shank it too though.

Her marking is probably less reliable as it was at the Saints. Drops some sitters but that's pretty much standard at AFLW level. Very few strong marking forwards. They'll take good marks here and there but they'll drop most of them.

Well strange to say but I’ve never felt we have had any discernible home ground advantage at punt rd

Could have something to do with the ground being the same size as Marvel. We all know how we like that place. ;)

Strange coz we certainly don’t get many paid our way , they got a goal moments after their ff was stone cold htb , I get feeling the theme is to let it go most of the time ,,,,but a lot of frees are paid , most games were mid 30s plus

Even VFL team hasnt exactly made it a fortress , would appear in any case the final most certainly would have been ikon in which case I may as well watch on tv with game in Adelaide

Just thinking about the best "22". We made finals 2 seasons back with just 6 different players. Bacon, Ford, Greiser, Dallaway, Hicks, Ryan. Quite a few 50 gamers running around.

All our midfield got on the park all season. That Hawks game was cut and copy from the mens game vs HFC. Smashed in clearances.

Genuinely beaten in the centre.

Mon's uber consistent, Poppy's improved, but need Ellie & Eilish to think. They try to take oppo on with pace or evasion, but get caught too much. Is Sheerin better HBF? Are we now too tall in the middle?

Grace played Q1 & Q3 ok but only 60% TOG, so maybe Ferg has rotations in mind.

Shyte, how to improve?

how to generate more goals? Greiser the obvious one, but as TM2 said, she leaves a lot of marks out there. Can she improve that part of her game.

FMD. Irish players !!

the obvious gap at the whole club. Killed us the last few weeks.

I think we should be looking at bringing in some Irish girls, as they have a distinct advantage over other players from other sports in the AFLW. They generally have great pace & have better ball handling skills than the girls coming from a long way back who haven't grown up playing AFL footy. Also wouldn't cost us much compared with players we have, that are just not at the level we need to be competitive with the best teams.

Yeah, as good as some of the girls are coming through, it's not depth yet - especially when you compare to say a 20-25 year old Irish player. We have to use our first pick, but we need to look more broadly. Deep dive into WNBL, check the Elite levels of sports for ball handling skills, fast hands etc. Not saying it isn't being done, I'm sure it is, but dive deeper, look at the Eilish find for inspiration.

Finals 2 seasons ago we had Wakefield and Brennan who complimented each other better, but went out in straight sets to Lions and North. Our Midfield is still a WIP, where we continue to struggle coming up against the better midfields. This is only Sheerin’s first season, but we need more, and short term more goals is probably only going to come from our current midfielder group than our current forward group.

On our list changes last year, a few of us on here felt we needed to beef up the midfield, but instead we prioritised a ruck in McKinnon. The last solid midfielder we brought in was in 2022 when we got in Grace Egan. Against the Hawks, TOG for our mids was Ellie Mac 90% Conti 86%, Dallaway 83%, Sheerin 67% and Egan 59% rotating.

We've had limited draft options for the past 2 years with compromised drafts. The best young mids went to Hawks, Bombers, Swans and Port. e.g. Shineah Goody, a 2023 pre selection for Port, is an 18yo that plays against us this weekend.

If we want to improve the midfield we need to prioritise the draft. This year’s draft is a strong one for top end midfield talent. I reckon that there are 8, (1 father/daughter) who would be an immediate improvement on Egan and Dallaway. Pick 12 for us means we might have to look elsewhere and target a KP like Tallariti, or Belloni or a crafty forward like Georgia Knight, or get to work on a trade for a midfielder upgrade in someone who may want to move clubs, like Britt Bonnici.

We definitely miss Wakefield's impact & we desperately need Mids & Kpp's , we dont need to target flankers as we have enough of those types already on the list.
Yep hit the draft hard early, then look at maybe an irish player or two towards the end of the draft or however you are allowed to bring in these players & also maybe a standout from other codes who have that drive & desire to be the best they can. Maybe see if Conti has any mates or Sheerin, as these girls have the killer instinct & drive that every club needs & you can never have enough of these type.

Irish players, if they haven’t played AFLW before, would just be able to be picked up as a rookie signing. If clubs list sizes are increased as is being flagged, it would be a no brainer to bring in an Irish recruit, as the majority of Gaelic footballers in our women's game already have the skills to play a kicking and running gamestyle.

Brennan is half her size and can grab them where she's build like Lockett. Bring back Courtney at least she had a bit of mongrel in her. How did we drop off so much after sitting in the 4 and looking pretty where hawks came come from nowhere in a short amount of time? OH yeah and our foot skills are like

Déjà vu

with the senior's.

I think it’s the game style we play, I don’t think we have any damaging flankers.
I don’t think we have built an option of trying to score from the flanks and if our mids don’t get out with the ball and run directly through the corridor or we win a turnover and sling shot back quickly we struggle to score.
We tried moving the ball diagonally in the third against Hawth and we kicked 1.2 they kicked 1.3.
We kicked 3 goals for the game, two of em from a wing trying to be dangerous (Shevlin) and our H/B pressing right up and getting a turnover (Lynch).
And then he leaves Shevling off for the last half of the fourth.
They’re wing and they’re H/F score in the last. 4 goals to one.

We’ve got some really good players but everyone knows we can only score from KB (1.1ave)
Grieser (.9 ave)
Sheerin/Yassir/Shevlin(.6ave)
Ellie .4ave
Conti .2ave
That’s for the year, if you look at it against top 8 teams it’s poorer than that and that’s including a good win over Port.
If the oppo makes it hard for our Mids to get out of stoppage we don’t score enough.
We are too predictable.
I think we need attacking wings and flankers, Dempsey is ok at delivering the ball but she hasnt been as big a weapon this year.
We need more weapons IMO.
