Yeah can’t say I’m at all sold on Jones making it at this point, taking four seasons to get to 12 touches a game off a wing/HBF is not one bit encouraging

I don't think you're saying anything controversial. Jones was a top 10 pick who was drafted to bolster our midfield. Even if he could just make it as a solid role player down back, and even that's questionable, we're never going to come close to getting decent value out of that pick.

Imo, Jones will prove you wrong & be a handy AFL footballer.

McHenry I'm not convinced about though.

We have a lack of small/ running defenders and he outperforms Parnell, Hammil and McPherson. He's best 22.

There's also players just like him in the best 22 of every team. I think we just overestimate what the bottom end of best 22 looks like.

I’d take Hamill over him.

Where do you see McHenry playing losing term in our side?

Imo, doesn't do enough offensively to remain in the forward line.

Would like to have seen him tried in the midfield, but coaches don't appear to be considering him there.

McHenry can move up the ground, he’s proved he can find the ball even though playing forward.
His decision making and disposal need work for sure.
Jones needs both that and football nouse which you can’t teach.

But the coaches have shown no sign of moving McHenry up the ground & he's going to be up against it playing forward with Rankine & Sloane likely to be in the side.

If Jones doesn't think too much, he can play football & his disposal is fine. 70.5% disposal efficiency would be around the mark of similar players.

Dmack looked like the next superstar in 2009.
Something jones can only dream of at this point.
In his second year dmack had 3 games under 15 disposals, Chayce has had over 15 about 3 times in his career.
No comparison at all.

Dmac played wing from the start. Jones came in and played small forward.

Not sure why people keep making excuses for him, he’s been given every chance to succeed.

Disagree he has been terrible since being settled in the backline & also handy off a wing last season.

Not a forward though & should never have been played there.

But what does it mean to succeed? He's a best 22 player who has been in the system for 4 years. That is not a fail and he still has time to improve.

Fog wasn't even a best 22 player at the start of his 5th year. This board was calling for him to be traded or sacked.

Jones has the pieces to be a very good player. Maybe he doesn't get to that level, or what we would gave hoped from a pick 9, but at the very least he's a best 22 player. Premiership teams have worse players than Jones.

And that’s where we differ.
I don’t see any pieces but athletic ability and effort from him.
He doesn’t seem to understand the basic game, and that is fundamentally where it breaks down for him, he can’t draw you a footy, he’s not a great decision maker and he’s below average with his desposal.


1 game with over 20 touches in 4 years is not best 22 material especially when he’s been played in prime ball getting positions.

Like Fogarty, confidence imo is a big issue, knowing he belongs at this level & coaches setting in a role.

He’s only a best 22 player because we are trying to make him into one, we’ve been very patient with him. He was drafted as a mid and we are trying to turn him into a defender because you just don’t give up on a pick 9 so easily but if he doesn’t come on this year, the pressure will be on to retain his spot on the list.

This isn’t a key position player we are talking about here.
