Yeah but as a mod, I should set a better example to start the thread off, doesn’t help to be negative off the bat. I’ll admit I was seething still from that 3rd quarter and being around WC family didn’t help mah mood (even though they were fine, I was just a miserable sod haha)

A lot of negative people here after what I thought was a pretty good win. Still a lot of improvement but anyone thinking we would not have beaten them regardless is dreaming. 100% a Better side even before their injuries and we haven’t started humming yet. Just happy for the win and hopefully some confidence. Btw loved Jackson just a cameo of what he will be. And also Amiss need to keep him in the side no matter what, the dude is going to be a GUN!

Was a good fight from West Coast, reminiscent of us against the dogs in R11/12 in 2021, lost Cox, Fyfe, Logue and someone else and then went on the fight and only go down by 30, was about a goal in it at 3 quarter time

Dogs made the GF that year

Darcy and Switta had about twenty touches each and both registered ten score involvements.

The third quarter was disappointing.

Liam Henry was as bad with ball in as he was great when tackling.

Johnson's involvements were classy.

Brayshaw dominates centre clearances. O'Meara doubled his season total but both were because Darcy could bully the sub standard Eagles rucks.

Poor Eagles were smashed against the Freo rocks and will limp into the next month. I don't envy them. That was as bad of a result as could be felt. Close enough to think it could be a win, losing bulk players and by almost seven goals by the end.

Nah. You should set an example by saying what you actually think, which you did. People can be happy about the win, people can be upset about aspects of it and they're all still Freo supporters with valid thoughts and opinions. Someone claiming others shouldn't be supporters because of what they think about the game or what they derive enjoyment from in their fandom shouldn't come into it. Cannot stand that mentality.

Anyway I've put that bloke on ignore so that's where I'll leave it.

The style of play is what counts. Last week was a big wake-up call. We can’t go back to that.

That was the frustrating thing with Henry, his tackling was ****ing fantastic , like the best I’ve ever seen from him but his decision making went back 50 steps. Hard to justify keeping him out for MJ.

Travelled literally over 1500km to be at the game today. Good win and plenty of positives but I’m going to hold out a tad before getting too happy with myself as I want to see Qtrs 1,2 and 4 replicated and added to in next few outings.

What makes q3 disastrous, is that the season is a marathon, not a sprint.

They were down on key players (an advantage to be used), by putting our foot on their throats in q3 we could have minimised on the effort required in the last half before we put a win out of doubt. Instead, we needed big efforts by Switta and others to get us up, having to go harder, we had extra (needless) risk of injury.

We still need legs for the next game on a 6 day break and so on.

Probably best just to put the 2nd half behind us as not important. WC to their credit threw absolutely everything at us and were outstanding given the circumstances. They basically couldn’t move in the last quarter so we buried them appropriately.

The first half was some fantastic footy from both sides and we still came out on top which was good to see but there was flashes of our biggest problems still.

  • Not enough tall talent up forward (Tabs looks like he can barely move anymore)
  • Midfield struggling with contested ball

If we had our draft picks, I’d be leaving heavily towards forcing games into both Johnson and Ras. They would solve that midfield problem when they hit 50 games. Then it wouldn’t be a problem having a top pick this year while we rocket back up the ladder next year with 20 odd more games under the 2021 draftees, but the fact we don’t makes it tough.
We can try and trade back in. Plus we don't know who's leaving yet.

I'm expecting Hughes to go to the back line to cover for Chapman, so Johnson can come into the twenty two with Banfield as the sub.

Hughes was very good to my eye today, looked the cleanest by foot inside fifty until Serong started those stab kick worm burners.
