It is easy to write this after a loss, but I really see no movement on the same issues that everyone, myself included, had with the last few years. We are still a really heavily defensive focused team that struggles to score.

I made a similar suggestion in the JLo thread and had a lot of disagreement.

I am really concerned about our ability to score.

It is easy to write this after a loss, but I really see no movement on the same issues that everyone, myself included, had with the last few years. We are still a really heavily defensive focused team that struggles to score. It's only really the method of movement out of the back half that has changed for the better. After we're out, we really seem to be taking our time and allowing the opposition to set up more than before. Using the corridor less to my eye as well. There is obviously a retain posession focus but so far it doesn't really seem to be impacting results. Forward entries terrible, partially from a result of taking too long to get there. The other bit of it seems to be structural and leading pattern related.
The absolute worst thing about modern football is how goals are treated almost disdainfully as this mere byproduct of handwork elsewhere on the field and nothing more.

Forward lines are only there to trap the ball in basically then goals just sort of happen.

Every forward has a litany of tasks and responsibilities beyond actually being expected to kick goals.

Everything's about ball movement ball movement ball movement, but at some point there actually has to be someone there at the end who's responsibility it is to kick goals doesn't there?

Every single time there's lack of goals its always summed up as either lack of opportunity or lack of execution on the part of the midfield, and the forward line, who doesn't get nearly the same attention as the back line or midfield by coaches, is always left off the hook.

Lobb want's to be a forward but has a panic attack everytime he lines up for goal - don't worry it'll sort itself out. Everyone leads to the same space or doesn't lead at all? We didn't lower our eyes enough or didn't put it to good advantage.

It sucks. I hate it. We'll be the same boring team who won't be able to compete with the Hawthorn's (of bygone era) or the Eagles, Richmonds and Port's when it matters if we continue to treat the forward line like it's this beat up car that you just hope get's you from A to B every week. /rant

I'd like to pose a legitimate question, and in no way should it be viewed as a blight on our former coach - I, for one, greatly appreciate the sustained success he instilled at the club (for a period). My question is: How, exactly, could Ross Lyon pledge to deliver a premiership to the Fremantle faithful by the close of 2020?
With the rebuild being commenced in 2016, the ensuing age profile of the squad by 2020, just simply does not logically allow for such success. Now it's easy to respond by stating that Lyon conjured up such a grandiose ideal, on account of being self serving, in a bid to extend his coaching tenure, but I'm looking for a deeper answer. Anyways, it's plainly clear that this team as it currently stands, is at least two years off contending for a top four position.

Suspect we thought the talent we traded for would deliver when clearly the majority did not.

Either that or he just said it to keep everyone off the clubs back. He was good at transferring pressure to himself off others.

Man this place gets depressing real quick.

‘Young team that just won 4 games on the trot (I’ll die on that Carlton game hill), has an off week against grand finalists who have been smashed in the media all week and have everything to play for.’

Wouldn’t read about it...

Was at a mates birthday so only saw snippets but lessons seem to be
1) Even gun young kids can’t back it up week after week
2) We won’t be top 4 any time soon without at least 2 of our best 3 KPD ready and available
3) Forwardline needs a lot of work still. Think the coach MIGHT need a bit more than half season to solve ALL the issues at once.

Every team has bad games here and there, especially this year. It’s never has bad or as good as it seems.

Freo were quite competitive when we weren't missing so many key players to injury.

This game was coming. We are cooked. There isn't any run in their legs and we now get on a plane to practically immediately play where we will be even worse.

Season is over, time to play everyone else and see what they've got. Leno Thomas, Luke Valente, Lloyd Meek, Jarvis Pina.

Yeh, I’m regretting putting $100 on us to win the flag this year during the week.

Because that is our target this season isn’t it??

This is the essence of our woes! Who has been coaching this line for the last five years? Is it David Hale? Is he the man to lead us forward in this department?

Full list available transforms this team. I would be disappointed if we had that and weren't contending, regardless of the coach.

Why only play the future now?

Those kids should have already been playing

I think Justin legitimately thought we were a chance to topple the Giants, and rightly so, as our defence has been gargantuan of late. I think you'll see more youth blooded in the coming weeks.

Those kids should have already been playing
Because then the average age of our team would be about 8 years younger on average than your mob. Kids don't learn anything if they get absolutely spanked every week, week after week. You have to get the balance right.

-ve - having to watch that and having to push back those West Coast-like feelings of wanting to leave early.

+ve - I think the loss is actually good for our team. Will force some changes (no excuses not to bring in some new faces) and some real reflection about what they brought today versus what they've been bringing in previous week.

-ve - we have to play Richmond in 4 days. But luckily they haven't just come back into sizzling form recently so we should be fine

+ve - ... I'll get back to you on this one.
