Review Gather Round 2024 vs Essendon

Honestly...if we had the Bassett era defence out there in the first quarter, that very easily was a what happen.

I thought they stood up when Essendon had a great start. They werent perfect but they did pretty well after getting a little jumped.

This is a completely new defence, the improvement to come is huge.

Lets not forget the early Gresham goals were lachie jones being ****ing useless. Not Aliir, BZT (who can add Langford to his back pocket - hes been white hot till tonight), or Esava not doing their jobs.

We need more than 3 midfielders. He is good enough to win the Brownlow . Case closed
Was good enough. Not is. Not even close to the player he was, and that was an outlier year not usual programming. He cant kick or run both ways to save himself.

Horne-Francis showed exactly why we missed him last week. When Jason is in the team, Rozee and Butters can exploit the space he creates.

Pressure was elite for most of the game - still missed some easy goals but overall a good performance.

Aliir and Ratugolea are a great pairing - 4 intercept marks each...just playing real consistent and getting better each week. Zerk-Thatcher adds to a pretty decent defensive group alongside the likes of Houston (4 intercept marks), Farrell and Burton. Soldo doing exactly what is expected of him.

Good decent showing from Georgiades in his first game back.

Bring in Powell-Pepper for McEntee and Wines for Boak (I'd give Mead a solid crack at it and give Travis some time to rest) and we'll go to another level. Not every team is going to be as soft as Essendon is in the middle, which is why you need guys like Wines to go to work on the inside.

Looks like the bookies knew what they were talking about when they offered $4+ for an Essendon win.

I come in peace, just wanted to say you guys were elite tonite. JHF and Rozee monstered us. Excited to see how you guys go the rest of the year.

We arent that bullish and mostly view hinkley as a finals handbrake. The talent is undeniable, the coaching questionable.

There is a reason we have never been good enough. We never had the calibre of team that we have now. We are elite

Careful, you are falling for the ken era mistake. We lost to melbourne at home last week and Essendon are putrid on a bad day. We are yet to prove **** all.

We were hoping Duursma kicked a goal and shot Kent Hinkley with a bow and arrow. Unfortunate

Ken wouldnt see it coming. He had nodded off leaning against the post on the bench, listening to the sounds of the game as he never wears a headset.

Said it in the gameday thread but we absolutely should have shipped Wines off when we had the chance. Disposal much better without him.
I love Ollie but this is a home truth. He is not really necessary at all. We had no idea JHF was coming our way tho….

The kind of game that makes me worried that this list can easily carry Ken through another half a dozen years. It all clicked tonight. Well except Dixon, he was noticeably awful, but it seemed he still assisted in the structure, four KPFs and a resting ruck and at no point did any of it looks too tall or slow.

It wasn't perfect, like Dixon there were other individuals down on output, but the entire team seemed to work through that pretty smoothly, led by the ridiculous midfield efforts of Rozee and JHF.

Essendon are just a nothing club, good enough to beat the bottom 4 and snag a few wins against teams around them on the ladder (8-12) but they're going nowhere fast.

Regardless of whether Hinkley is going to be there, having Rozee, Butters and JHF all 25 and under has you guys in a great place for the next generation. There wasn't an Essendon midfielder anywhere near their level tonight, even Merrett.
