Now that we snared Warnock, I have no doubt we will trade Hampson to the Gold Coast for an early draft pick. As we signed him up for 3 years we will hold the upper hand as I have no doubt they will target a home grown giant.

What pick could we expect?

Hampson is a Carlton player, and will be a Carlton player even after the inception of the gold coast. His family has moved down here and located themselves in Melbourne with him for the sake of his football career.

So its no coincidence that we signed up a player for 3 years when he has shown no improvement. We know the Gold coast will be after him at the end of 2009. It would have been terrible to not hold any barganing power.

Would you take a top 12 pick in 2009 if it was offered?

Sorry but are you new? Why would you make a thread like this?. How do we know how good Hammo is going to be by that time?. But like has been mentioned he is a Carlton player and we have confidence in him hence the 3 year deal. He is not going anywhere, the club obviously sees something in him.

We'll have this discussion towards the end of next season i'm sure. Hopefully his development accelerates beyomd what we saw this year. That being the case, if he responds to potentially having a truck load of cash thrown at him, i'd be looking for a top 10 pick given the silly amount of picks GC will be in possession of.

Let's get our facts straight first:
GC17 next year will get first crack at the Queensland youngsters coming out.
In 2010 they will get the first 3 picks as well as 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15.

So no they won't be offering a top 12 pick for Hammo.

With that in mind I would be very dissapointed if we gave him away. He is as promising as they come and has a chance along with Warnock to be a damaging ruck combination.

You clearly need to understand his background to have a greater understanding of where he is at.

For one, when we drafted him, he had only been playing football for a few years. Carlton saw the talent and drafted him as a result.

Ratten has himself said, that it will take 3-4 years for Hampson to become a ruckman that is able to compete at AFL level. He's one of the most talented young rucks going around and you want to offload him.

Straight no, simple. Guys like him don't grow off trees!

Personally i think you guys would just have to accept a mid 2nd rounder. Maybe a 4th rounder thrown in.

I mean he'll have only played 20 or so games by then......

Its where he wants to go after all.

Watch a real club go and get the result when it has to - and weep in solitude. :D;)

Okay, the OP was a little presumptious to start talking about picks for Hampson a couple of years away from GC entering, but some of the responses have been very poor and frankly against the rules of the board. We try to be more accommodating amongst ourselves folks but fair dinkum, talk about an overreaction.

It is common knowledge that teams were signing players to get over the 2010 hump. Yes, we know that Hampson's family moved down here but let's face it, they are Brisbane people, Daisy Hill in fact, just around the corner. It's a nice, state forest bordered area with wildlife and lovely views, in the Sth East corridor. It is not inconceivable that they could seek a return at some point. If people never left Melbourne, Queensland wouldn't have half it's population. ;)

I digress ....

We have 3 youngsters who could potentially command number 1 ruck status. If Kreuzer does not make it as a CHF, he will make it as a ruckman. If this occurs we will not be playing Kreuzer, Hampson and Warnock in the same side. Something will have to give. Teams since the dawn of time have lost ruckman who are looking for more opportunity, we will be no different once we have an embarrassment of riches.

So the idea of Hampson going to the Gold Coast eventually is not a silly one, it's just a little premature right now. It doesn't speculate that Hampson will be no good, just that he hasn't done very much just yet. Exactly the same stance most were taking in regards to Warnock to justify only offering #24.

Let's not let hypocrisy cloud the issue. The OP might not always come up with gems but on this occasion it is pretty harmless IMO.

Well despite the ridiculous crap people have thrown at you in this thread, I agree with you that it is likely or possible. In fact I think Warnock was a great move in part BECAUSE of the possibility of Hammo going home. Clearly they will be trying Kreuzer as a forward now. Warnock in the ruck. Hammo and Cloke vieing for 'off the bench' status.

If Hammo shows that off the bench he is worth a lot more than just a back up role, then it gives us two options: relegate Warnock to the backup ruck spot (if Warnock is NOT developing) OR trade him back to GC17 for a good pick (if Warnock IS developing).

If Hammo AND Warnock turn into gun ruckmen OR if Warnock does and Kreuzer fails as a forward, then it would be best for both Hammo and Carlton that he be traded home.

I think Hammo and Warnock will both be gun ruckmen. So Hammo will get a better chance back home and we will get a great draft pick for someone we can offer no more than a backup role to. It happens. This is not wiping the kid, it is actually recognising there are a few pretty possible circumstances here that would lead to him heading home.

lmao trading Hampson would be silly He is basically the most athletic ruckman going around atm(that is until NN comes in) he would be most ruckman if he gets a body and will out run them he will outjump Warnock and probably be a demanding force in the afl for another 10 years in the carlton jumper
