If the Blues beat the Lions ? We go to Adl....Pies to beat Port?
Are you effing serious on we learned something about sav From tonight? He took 7 marks all from down the field kicks. None of them chip kicks sideways. 5 of them contested. 2 goals. And whats more. He actually freed up hawkins when he finally went foward. Hawkins was getting killed before he went foward. We get sentimental around here about some of our younger players, but tonight should put to bed any delusion about who should and shouldnt be playing from next week.
Sav
Parfitt
Close
Atkins
Miers
Fogarty
Jarvis
Almost all of that 7 can come out next week and nothing of value would be lost. Maybe Parfitt can stay but id be tempted to bring Clarke in.
Ablett, Selwood, Stanley, Jenkins, Rohan, and Steven all come in next week depending on fitness. Time to stop with the selection games and select a team that know how to play football at an elite level and under finals pressure. We have the pieces, it's time we put them on the board. You cant play Richmond without 2 tall forwards, it's that simple and so obvious it's beyond debate at this point.
Unless we can work out countering the opposition's outstanding pressure and speed we have NO chance and a Geelong 2020 finals campaign will look just like all our other recent failed efforts after what we thought was going to be a more promising campaign in 2020. If we do bomb out of a finals series yet again, *serious* questions have to be raised about our coaching team and whether they are what's needed given the cattle we've had for the last few years that is now maturing in experience, etc. Surely they are (have been?) capable of a flag?!! Just not good enough if we fail yet again...Full credit to Richmond - totally outplayed us and outcoached us no doubt. Having said that I haven't seen us play that badly for quite some time. So many mistakes and so may bad decisions. I hope we can come back from this as our form suggests we are better than that.
They were our bunnies for so long, but now we are theirs. They know how to beat us, we hold no fears for them. I'm not sure we can beat them with this side, but if we play better team footy i think we are a chance. We have played such great team footy lately and I think tonight they clearly outplayed us and to me it seemed that we played as individuals at times and our players ignored better options trying to show everyone how good we are. Well we aren't that good imo if we play that way. Need to play a much more team orientated game and that goes for every player. Dangerfield and others need to stop trying to be the match winners and just play their part. We haven't played this badly all year and if we can get back to team play then I still think we might be a chance. We don't have the best list, but if we play as a team as we have been before tonight i thnk we can still give it a shake.
Richmond are the benchmark - i don't think they have the best list either but their game plan works most of the time. We need to play selfless footy and tonight we just didn't a lot of the time IMO. Disapppointing night but we're still in it so let's hope they get back to playing as a team and we might be a chance. A lot of things have to go right for us, but you never know. Admittedly I had given up earlier, but i think if we can get back to that team style then the season is not over. I'm super pissed off like most of you, but who knows. Next up is Syndey - lets make sure we win that and who knows from there.
IMHO I reckon you are on the money (sadly)...Same story, different day.
It’s truly frightening how often and consistently this team wilts under pressure.
When the heat is on, we as a collective turn to water. The amount of miss-kicks, turn overs, fumbles and poor decisions was horrifying, yet again. Even the times we do get the ball in our hands, they panic from the perceived pressure, and end up kicking it indiscriminately to nobody.
I’m the first to applaud blokes like Guthrie and Menegola on their good seasons, but seriously, who doesn’t expect them to revert back to regular programming in finals!? Tonight there was numerous examples of that from them both. I really hope they prove me wrong eventually.
The skipper, the GOAT, Rohan, Stanley and Steven should all play next week. Close, Jarvis, Fogarty, and if it wasn’t for that last quarter, I’d have said Sav all our.
I also don’t buy this “didn’t need to win/held something back” argument.
If you pick a weakened side in a match against your most dangerous rival, on the eve of finals, then you are just training the team to get beaten.
Reckon we lost a lot of belief tonight. There won’t be much to draw on when we really need it (if we get that far)
If thats a final astbury plays which more than negates rohans return. If that’s a final Rohan and Selwood play, that’s just a fact. Rohan does add to our forwardline but is notorious for not performing in big games. I agree with the last point this could really dishearten the team.

Rohan would not have got a kick Richmond crowed our forward line no space for Rohan to run down tackles or leadI guarantee that it would have helped, but I also guarantee that we still would have lost given how we played.

What are the powerball numbers for next week?Rohan would not have got a kick Richmond crowed our forward line no space for Rohan to run down tackles or lead
rohan does not offset their loss of astbury. He would have at least helped to keep the pill in the forward 50 when it hit the deck. Our defensive pressure after 1/4 time in their was pathetic.
We can not beat Richmond they are a hard team we have players that go missing when it gets toughWhat are the powerball numbers for next week?
Richmond will probably add Prestia, Edwards, Lambert, Caddy and Astbury to their finals team.
Yeah but you said Geel would win by 6-8 goals !!!!!!
Boy has there been alot of ccock sure - absolute shiit posted in the lead up to this game
This is why Port can not win it with only DixsonThe qtr it became obvious that sav was needed for this years final game was not the fourth. It was the 1st. When hawkins couldnt get near it because tigers opponents were running off their man to triple team him.
even scott eventually figured it out and put sav permanently foward in the last. Cant run off your man if your man is also a big marking threat.
foward line needs to be hawkins, sav and rohan.
I was replying to a post that said he doesn’t buy that we held back with selection ... but that is fact.
Not once did I say it will make a difference.

Sav played permanently forward for only 1 qtr and he and hawkins take 5 foward fifty marks and five set shots on goal in that qtr. yes just terrible. In the first 3 qtrs we had a grand total of 1 foward fifty mark. Ironically that came from a sav foward entry whilst he was playing ruck.Sav consistently dragged his opponent into Hawkins space. Just terrible
Danger spent too much of the game up foward. He needs to play these games as a permanent mid. Stop playing atkins, dalhaus and fogarty in there and play danger their permanently. danger as a mid is the reason we were 4 goals up in the prelim last year at half time. Then he went foward.Good morning peeps!
After good nights sleep he's my take.
Richmond is and has been Number 1 for now 4 years running for a reason, as we saw last night.
We are 2 steps behind them and a step behind the Eagles & Pies. Ironically beaten by all 3 this season.
So that is where we sit give or take.
Tigers pressure was high whilst we were at a season low by all reports.
It was a reflection of the game that played out.
Is it the end of the world?? No, far from it.
A tweak here a tweak here. An addition of one or two key players namely Rohan/Stanley and to a lesser extent Selwood/Ablett.
We might have a different outcome... maybe... but... a lot has to go our way.
Big ticks to SavRat tonight, thought he played a pretty good game along with Blitz who's been my whipping boy for a long time now.
But another disappointment for me was... Danger, who has become a BIG GAME DUD i'm afraid. Too many occasions now he's been well below par.
Pressure does strange things to blokes and tonight we saw that in players that have had a great couple of weeks.
Well it's back to the drawing board and plan for another battle in the ring vs The Champ who let's remember is the champ for a reason.
That's football.
Cheers boys. Lick our wounds, dust off the sh*t that will come our way & look ahead for a better outing next time around.
Anyone have a heat map of sav? I don't have access.Sav played permanently forward for only 1 qtr and he and hawkins take 5 foward fifty marks and five set shots on goal in that qtr. yes just terrible. In the first 3 qtrs we had a grand total of 1 foward fifty mark. Ironically that came from a sav foward entry whilst he was playing ruck.
For so long in football history the most important player on the ground was the centre half foward. Now not only do we not consider them the most important but masterminds like scott dont even want to play one at all. This is why Port can not win it with only Dixson
