No....one kick and two handballs on the weekend. Useless.

He'll be good for Essendon but wouldnt break into our side IMO....though I should add he has his fans on here. (Cough...Turbo...cough) I just havent seen him do enough to warrant the hype. We have depth already down at Geelong with his type of player.

I still think David Myers is worth a look....his type wouldnt go astray on our list. And he's not re signed with Essendon as yet. KPP, mature bodied and a beautiful kick. If we could de-Don him he might be very handy. :thumbsu:
Right, 2 things here.

Firstly Essendon need to find another first rounder for Caddy as Daniher is going to the Bombers with their first pick. So that means Caddy certainly isn't a 'sure thing' for them.

Secondly, Myers...you looking at guys for our VFL side?

OK, I jest...but Myers is a bit of a step down from Caddy. Been at the Dons for 4 seasons and hasn't cemented his position in a side that has struggled over his time there. He'd struggle to find his way into our side. When you trade for guys, aren't you usually looking to make the side better?

Plus, he was drafted at pick 6. Based on that, Port supporters will remind us that he is worth our first round pick and our compo pick. Clearly he is a jet since he was pick 6. Dammit, you know that to be the truth.

Speaking of Port supporters, I wonder if they still believe we are on the down slide? Vardy's return was pretty damn solid against the Swans. Menzel back next year, and Varcoe. Hawkins will be coming into his prime....

I could go on but why bother, we know how we are looking.

I like Christensen but he isn't anywhere near Ablett at the same stage. Ablett had the potential to be a superstar with his little taps and smart play. Christensen will be a good little player but wont be a superstar.

Disagree. Buddy does a lot of the same , infact plays a little tougher if not quite as exciting. He draws players to him willing to make the possession chain easier for the next player , an important criteria seen in GA very early. He is a goal kicker , can take crunch marks , gets hard ball , team player , big stage player , very focused Geelong person .... My only concern with AC is the head stuff. Im seeing him get hit in the noggin far too often.
Superstar , I doubt anyone would have said Ablett would reach the heights he has. Its unlikely that AC will reach that but can he become a player in the best 50 in the AFL? I have no doubt at all.

I disagree aswell.
Stats wise atleast Abletts second year he averaged a touch under 15 disposals a game and 1.2 goals.
Bundy stacks up VERY well to those, I remember back then thinking Gaz could be a handy dangerous small forward, I never thought he could become the champion he is now.

Myers is a big unit but he's a forward, personally I struggle to see where he could fit given he's a one trick pony, couldn't imagine that frame in defence but I might be wrong.
He's got a thumping kick on him, could be Pods insurance?? But what about Kersten?
Could handle maybe one more big forward, Kersten may not work out!

Do we actually need a target?
Can see lots of upside in Duncan as an elite mid, Bundy too, Selwood is super-elite, SJ, Bartel, Kelly, and next year, our outside mids in Varcoe, Motlop and maybe Smedts, will be better. I like the concept of us MAKING what we have the best they can be and we've done really well with that.
Nonsense! We need an outsider. Geelong does not produce many good players. We need a marquee player to get some interest in the club. And then maybe we can win some games for a change.

Probably the wrong thread for it... but what about getting Moloney from the dees back for a couple of years? Could be cheap and that hard contested body to help out while the youngsters fill out more?

Yes, we definitely need another "in and under extractor" to aid Selwood.

Selwood shoulders far too much of the burden at the moment.

If Boak stays good on him, at least he'll be the highest paid player at Port, and that is the salary cap working exactly how it should, right?

$700k for boak is way over what he is worth in my opinion...this contract could be the start to the albatross contracts like rashard lewis from the nba.

But disappointed in boak but mainly due tothe sheer fact a Player would want to play for that rabble of a club over us. Some players are happy to cruise through a career without pushing themselves to reach their peak and boak seems to be this.

Don't think we should chase moloney (bit old and declining) but I would be open to Sylvia.

Sylvia in a good team would be a significantly better player. Especially getting pushed by the geelong leadership group.

Only problem would be his off field issues, but it appears he has overcome this as of late

Good on him if he stays.

I have no idea why you'd do a 2 year contract though.

Takes him up to a restricted free agent I believe someone said.... if Port are still a rable he will walk away then without the issue of being traded

I don't see how it matters. He can go now.
And if he is on 700k then he isn't going to get offered more than that from anyone.

To me, it lacks common sense.

Some people like mediocrity and cant see past it. I hope it works out well for him and he gets all he is looking for from it. Be it money, satisfaction or on field achievements.

That said, I still feel more so than ever that Joel Selwood will not make it past 27 if we dont get him some more inside help and fast. He is a complete maniac in terms of contested possession and whilst I applaude his sheer will to get the ball - I realise that clock of aging is ticking.

WE must find help for him and soon - regardless of its origin.

Go Catters

would rather we have Stringer get the call from Scotty pre-season
"Jesse', get to the gym 6am as we like what we saw this year and think you could become the mid we been missing"

Do think Stringer a real chance, but as you say would need to bulk up.

If we dont get Boak, and thats looking likely, then I'd back Wells to do the right thing.
Which other players that could be available that we could go after? I'm trying to think of some and I cant...

Thoughts on Toy? he seems to be destined to be cut.

Really hasnt lived up to his junior hype. Has been given multiple opportunities this year and doesnt look like he will make the grade. Turns the footy over a lot and his decision making is woeful at times. Gold Coast look like only using 3 picks this year, so trading a 3rd rounder for him would be pointless for GC. They will either package him up with someone else as part of a trade, or delist him.

yeah, its a really convenient 2 year contract isnt it.

he is basically saying what you posted, get yer shit together or i am walking in 2 years.
But as VC said he will only be a Restricted Free Agent in two years time and Port can match any offer put to him and he would have to stay. For him to move under RFA someone would have to offer up a price that Port have no chance of matching and given how Travis may not progress as he could somewhere else over that period no one is going to make a Godfather deal for him. Length should have been 4 years if he was serious about staying 2 years is a very strange deal indeed

Unless he has a tippet like walk away clause? But agreed its strange. You want success, you go to Geelong or you want cash and stay at port but on a 5 year deal...

It's now or never for Boak, in two years we won't have the Ablett pick. So if he stays at Port he won't come to Geelong ever.

Go someone that wants to be here..

That has nothing to do with it. In 2 years he is a restricted free agent. Any club won't need a pick to get him.

Yeah but no club can/will match the money port will throw at him. And who'd want him after spending that much time at port.

Yeah I meant this, we wont be able to get him in 2 years.. so unless he goes to like Melbourne, Richmond etc he mine as well stay in Port and get the $$$ on a longer contract, playing out his footy career there or he can come now and chase finals.
