I want to know which umpire leaked who they voted for (edit: it's now the headline story on the HSun site, paywalled).

This is almost the only way this could have happened.

Votes are sealed in envelopes and are not opened until Brownlow night.

On Magic Round, agree with the majority that it will not work. Other than out of state travelers (the reason why SA govt put the money up) and those already supporting other non-SA clubs I'm not sure how many spectators will attend games. However, call has been made in my extended family (have family across the country) to use it as a family get together so I'll go if I'm still kickin' at that point. Our chance to have all our footy people in the same place at the same time which is a rarity even with all the VIC clubs.

Of course News.com and Herald-Sun.com can’t help themselves but to plaster pictures of Patrick Cripps together with headlines of Brownlow Medal scandal.

question for any legal eagles out there.

What crimes are the people arrested for? Does insider trading laws extend to the people who put the bets on, or is it only the umpire or the person who leaked the information that takes the hit?

From the guardian
Victoria police said they are investigating whether betting-related offences have been committed, including the crime of using corrupt conduct information for betting purposes and engaging in conduct that corrupts or would corrupt a betting outcome of event or event contingency.

we need to blame the umpires in the traditional manner.....

Ban sports betting…simple
Don't disagree in principle, but it would be problematic to do so:
  • illlegal betting would become a massive issue
  • offshore betting (increased risks, no revenue coming back, no controls)
  • revenue reduction - both for ch7/fox/radio and for AFL/clubs/players

Hard genie to put back in the bottle.

So...this just popped up on my Linkedin..... Reckon it's about time Old Davey boy changed his LinkedIn profile...

This article is on facebook.
Reading some of the comments are really annoying. Someone suggested that Cripps was already standing up before the last vote was announced, which is crap by the way. Others saying they hope he is not stripped of the medal.
Seriously people clearly do not read things before they make stupid comments.
