If they Kelly deal can get done in time, I would be quite happy to have a look at Jake kelly ( adelaide ) or finlayson if the price and money was right.

Fremantle and Essendon

No surprises holding everything up, dodoro notoriously hard to deal with fremantle not much better.

Ridiculously stupid not getting the Hogan deal done.

8mil over 8 years is an outrageous contract though. But if you could put some clauses in it after the 5 year mark for games played etc for going on another year I'm sure a deal is worth it.

This draft strength and the 2 in 4 rule is handicapping how teams are looking into the future.

Live pick trading also slowing things down because clubs would like picks to see what is still on the board.

Particularly adelaide and port both looking to move up.

As per usual filthy hawthorn have crushed this trade period

I don’t think they have. Scrimshaw couldn’t even get a game at the suns, scully’s ankle is stuffed and he may never get it right, and giving up a first rnd pick and their 2nd best young player for a guy with an attitude problem, and is lazy in wingard reeks of desperation. Very risky.

Might pay off, might be a fail. Let’s hope it’s a total fail.

I am absolutely confused by how posters are putting that up. what does it mean? Can you go to the AFL and exchange the picks to get 6? Can't imagine that would be right.

No, it’s what the father/son and academy bids refer to. For example, let’s say a bid comes at pick 6 for Quaynor (Collingwood academy player):

- pick 6 is worth 1,751 points
- to match the bid and keep Quaynor, Collingwood get a 20% discount which means they need to find 1401 points.
- Collingwood have picks 18 (985pts), 51 (259pts), 56 (194pts) which sums to 1,438pts.
- Collingwood match the bid using these picks and get Quaynor.

It’s not an indication of the inherent value of the picks, it’s just a bunch of made up points to facilitate the bidding process.

I’m not usually critical of the club, but they said we’d focus on the draft this offseason and we currently have one of the weakest hands. Only Richmond, Collingwood, North, Melbourne and Hawthorn have weaker hands than us and most of them have added solid names through trade or FA.

I really dont see the waste of 12 months bit.

He is giving us 700k output on 100k wages next year regardless of what the trade in 12 months is.

Been crapping on about this fact for months that most WC supporters seem to completely ignore or dismiss as irrelevant as to why Wells is asking for his level of compensation.

In 2019 - bar finding another TK to produce to the same level which is highly unlikely - we cant replace that production for the same cost.

So that is embedded into the cost loss if he leaves now. Its really not that hard. Add that WC has been in his ear all year about getting home ... and its pay the price or leave IMO.

Go Catters

Reported now Wells has asked for pick 10 or better plus a future first. Sounds great if he can land it.

If that's true, then it sounds to me like Wells is deliberately making unattainable demands to price WC out of the market. Perfectly reasonable, mind you, if his preferred outcome is to hold Kelly to the contract that he willingly signed (which Wells has stated to be the case from the start).

Personally, I still think and hope a trade will get done, but I very much doubt it will be for a top 10 AND a future first round pick.

Apparently Wells is asking from WCE picks 22 & 20 and a future first round pick for next year. If he pulls that off then it's a good deal, but I can't see the Eagles giving us that. They can just wait until next year.

Love it. As soon as Kelly refused Freo, he couldn't play the petit violin of home sickness. Plus the club has stood its ground.

If Wingard fails or doesn't get them a flag its a huge bust given what it cost

I’ve said before I’d accept 20 + 22 for Kelly anyway.

If Wells manages to get 20, 22 + a Future 1st Round Pick it would be fantastic.

My concern is all the people here wanting us to stand firm and hold him to his contract next year will probably be the first to melt at the end of 2019 when he is OOC and traded for average compensation. There will be no bidding war between both WA clubs as he doesn't want a bar of Fremantle. We'd be looking at West Coast's first pick (likely to be in the 14-18 range) and a sweetener.

They will have us over a barrel and we will just end up having to take what they offer really. All this talk of the pre-season draft and Freo getting in first there aren't realistic. This just doesn't happen anymore. We aren't dumb enough to let it come to that. How can the club turn around to members and say we let him go for nothing, it won't happen. If you think Tim Kelly can help us win a flag next year, why not, lets retain him for that purpose. I personally don't see us being in contention next year, not even close actually. Picks 20, 22 in a strong draft and whatever else we can get out of them this year will be better than what we get next year I reckon. We will have no leverage.

I'll trade my current melt for your future melt.

Still a bit to happen. Also, Kreuger is 18. I'm counting that as a draft pick. In fact, it was draft pick!
