Really do hate the Hawks but i do have to admire them for doing it their own way, Scrimshaw get was fantastic, kid can (could?) really play, if they can unlock his potential he's a cheap & maybe even better replacement for Burton.

Seems pretty unlikely any of our contracted players will be leaving tomorrow, in some respects I would have liked a bit more of a shake up.

My issue also is that Patton is a man mountain who isn't the most mobile around anyway.. And is coming back from his 3rd knee...
Even for cheap I'm not sure I'm even entertaining the idea

He’s recovered well from his previous injuries but it’s be a risk for sure. He wouldnt be available without the risk. I doubt geelong get involved anyway.

It depends where the eagles finish next year if it’s top 4 then it’s about right value. There’s a chance they fall a bit and it’d be even better for geelong. I don’t think a deal will be done anyway.

Cats up the ante on Kelly

Geelong has turned up the heat on West Coast as it bids for Tim Kelly by demanding a future first-round pick be included in any trade for the contracted midfielder.

AFL.com.au understands the Cats have asked for the Eagles' first-round selection in next year's draft in addition to West Coast's existing offer of picks No.20 and No.22.

Should the Eagles finish top four again next season, that selection would fall anywhere between 15-18.

The Cats' asking price for Kelly emerged after list boss Stephen Wells indicated on Tuesday that a deal remained unlikely before Wednesday's deadline.

AFL.com.au reported on Monday night the Eagles had put picks 20 and 22 on the table for Kelly.

Signed for 2019 at GMHBA Stadium, Kelly is open to returning to Geelong if the deal falls through but will not entertain a move to Fremantle.

With three children under the age of three, the 24-year-old has asked the Cats to explore a move home to WA for family reasons.

Honestly not sure why the Eagles are stalling here. Ready made player and would be in the best 22 in any team.

If I was the Eagles I would do the trade for a chance of back to back flags. They'll be up there next year and Kelly will definitely add to that mix.

Also not sure why they were against trading Brander in the Kelly deal. One is a proven star ready to go while the other kid has potential which could or could not occur.

Giving up high draft picks doesn't guarantee that you are getting a star player. Plenty of duds have been picked up the order. I'd rather always pick up a proven player even if it may be considered paying overs.

He is giving us 700k output on 100k wages next year regardless of what the trade in 12 months is.

I reckon we try to upgrade pick 50 and 59 maybe with Murdoch or Thurlow for a pick around 40. Then ask for 20, 22 and 2019 1st for Kelly and 40. One of our picks 50-60 will be used on Brownless you'd think but the others are useless to us so we'll try to turn them into some steak knives for west coast.

I’m not here to change your mind, but what I’m thinking, how much does one year of Tim Kelly help us long term, how professional will he be, how will the strain on his home life affect his play, if something was to happen in his relationship how does reflect on the club, how professional will his teamates be, what if WC just decides he isn’t worth trading for, what if in 12 months he decides Freo is fine, what’s the likelihood of him &/or family doing a complete 180 & wanting to continue his career here.

Too many questions, I don’t see how any deal will be significantly better this time next season so get it done now, get the 12 months into his replacment/s.

No they are talking about the points value of picks re FS bids. In the real world clubs won't swap 6 for 20 and 22.

In case no-one mentioned it, Simon Lethlean of St Kilda gave a negative judgement/criticism of Geelong and Hawthorn's poaching-style draft focus and recommended that both clubs go to the draft in future...

It's most likely not about just pick/s or where they land... even though i'm pretty sure Wells wants a low pick.
But more so about a player we want in exchange for Tim Kelly.

also didn't like reports out of West Coast indicating that they didn't understand what Geelong wants, as if Wells was a bit crazy. I thought that was rude when fro nearly two weeks now plus a statement from the club that they want a top 10 pick. TK ended up along with Paddy in the B&F for god sakes. So if they are starting to sling off then I'd say no deal. West coast can't really be bothered I reckon. Havn't really moved much and nor have we.

I think 20,22 and their 1st 2019 and our second 2019 back will be way more than we could get next year which will probably be their 2019 first alone in the 13-20 range after compo. I get that a year of TK adds value but 2 extra picks that could be solid 200 gamers would be more valuable in my opinion.

If the reports are true our 2nd going back in 2019 could be the “middle ground” he eagles are waiting for. (I hope)

I still reckon this will get done. Probably pick 20 and 2019 first rounder. Overall that's not a bad result and gives us 4 pretty early looks across the next 2 drafts.
