Personnally i don't think they gave it enough of a chance or wanted to do any development with him as a KPF as i think their plan the whole time was for him to play KPD.

That's just my opinion.

I get the feeling it was LH as well that didnt want to play there... so maybe it was part of the original trade talks that his role was to be back...

Maybe, just strange that we gave up a first round pick for another backman when we needed a KPF. oh well shit happens.

FFS next ill hear that Nick Maxwell wants to come out retirement and renounce his Pies flag to re-sign with us.

The Media will run with anyone that ahs spent 14 mins in Geelong.

GO Catters

Can we try and lure Ottens out of retirement first ?

Herald Sun running with Higgins to the Cats, thoughts peeps?
Class player for sure, and probably the type we need (outside spreader who uses it very well and hits the scoreboard), but he'll be 32 by the start of next season...
I'd rather us just get Jack Steven for a 2nd round pick, look at either Goldstein or Jacobs as a free agent, and use all our other picks in the draft... We need kids, got a perfect blend now, let's start going with kids

Just having a look, what’s the value of jack Steven in your views? A second rounder for a 29 yr old arguably in his prime, 8th in the Brownlow last year and a 4x BNF?

With “issues”.

Its a fixation on the instant ... think about our backline .with no Blitz and Kolo has not worked.. then its then a good trade. And if we have seen anything from Scott ..its that the last thing he wants is a weak backline... 2e and LH were brought in to cover the losses of long term backline players without thought of the natural development that might cover it

But when we got him we still had Lonergan for two more years, Taylor for four more years with a possible fifth year coming up, kolo who IMO was developing nicely to eventually replace Taylor at CHB, Gardner who was spoken about as an eventual replacement for Lonergan but couldn't get a game because we had too many of the same player and of course Blicavs who at the time was playing everywhere.

I just think we missed the boat and it was one of the reasons which cost us in the 16' 17' finals when we had Hawkins but no-one else.

Henderson replaced Rivers.

Great accomplishments, and if this were a few years ago there's no doubt his value would be very high. But 29 (nearly 30 when he begins next season) is getting a little long in the tooth, and he has had mental health issues which have kept him out for almost the entire season. As you may recall, we took a gamble on a player suffering mental health concerns before, and it didn't have a great outcome for us, so I think the club has reason to be cautious in this instance.

Still, Geelong usually gives good value at the trade table, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Probably wind up getting our late first round pick while we keep an earlier pick from a Kelly trade.

As far as next year, I wonder if a lot of action will come about depending on what we do in September.
1. If we were to win it, would it be reasonable to expect GAJ, Taylor, and maybe Selwood to hang up the boots?
Or could Joel and/or Harry go to GC for a 4 year deal, 2 as player, etc.?
In the case of a flag, no way should we go after a 30yo, unless it was felt there was a BTB chance and everybody stays on another year. And that's not allowing for Kelly.
2. If we were to go out straight sets, again, I could see that being curtains for GAJ and Taylor. Maybe I'm seeing things incorrectly. Then a rebuild of sorts, or at least going for quality young players.

I'm struggling to accept that we are going to be in contention next year if we win it this year, or if we are out early this year.

Seeing Henderson’s name coming up here. Not much logic to that. He’s close to the end but as we’ve seen the last two weeks still playing good footy. He is very settled on the surf coast and I’d be very surprised if he plays elsewhere. More likely he continues to play a similar role to that he has played this year with plenty of VFL time. Don’t think he’d be too unhappy with that.

Yeah i doubt he wants to leave tbh unless we dont offer him a contract but with Taylor and Tuohy also old i think we will.

I doubt the club see Steven as too old.. they just look at the way he is playing today .. and say age is only one parameter to measure by...

So if we lose Kelly ..and gain Higgins and Steven ... we gain an older side ..but for a year or two.. we main gain and thicker midfield

Higgins willstay at Nth IMO Steven ismore realistic if we can get it done without giving up a R1.

The problem is it is very hard to get good kpfs in trades there are not many of them league wide and most clubs need one. Defenders are much easier to get. Which is why if Cameron was gettable we should just trade what it takes to get it done.

He’ll cost us a late 1st rounder, guaranteed. I’m not overly fussed as we’ll get another first for TK. Probably worth it if he gets his head right.
