I agree. They are in a similar spot to Gillies when we refused to trade him to Hawthorn. If they don't play at all next year, and personally I wouldn't have either in our projected best side for 2021, then they are basically worth nothing after another 12 months of not playing. Cash them in if we can get something half decent for them. Fogarty wouldn't be in our best side either so we would still have him for depth, along with Cooper Stephens who you would want to start getting games into, Simpson wasn't hopeless when he played plus whoever we happen to draft this year as well can all go towards depth coverage for the senior team.
That’s right! Hawthorn offered pick 33 for Gillies which we declined. He played his last year with us almost exclusively in the Reserves before being picked up by Melbourne where after having a couple of bags kicked on him never played again. Let’s trade into next year and use our three first round picks on kids.

We're likely to find it really difficult when Hawkins, Selwood and Danger along with handy players like Henderson, Tuohy and Steven all finish up or decline together. After 2011 we had Selwood, Hawkins and Taylor as still young players who carried us to finals. We won't have that this time so it's basically certain we'll drop down. But given the gun old players we've got we'd be mad not to go 100% for premierships right now. Of course we can manage players and develop kids at the same time but in terms of recruitment the now should be prioritised while we're a genuine chance. At some point in the next few years we'll likely hit a wall pretty quickly but hopefully we've got a flag or two to dull the pain. And with free agency you can rebuild pretty quickly these days.

At a certain point ..you run out of elite players. Either the players one has traded in have failed or the picks you have drafted have failed. With no real early picks its probably more likely that be the case. .. What we need is to find 3-5 AA level players either thru draft or trade.. or the designed gravity of the afl system will eventually pull us down.

The question is since that probably only gets them band 2 (pick 19) will Adelaide let him go here or match the bid?

and it will not be 19 ... I still feel they would be crazy to "let him go" for a B1 and not a B2. They either want to regenerate or not. Ess would seem a good fit but probably will not be able to be active till they know for sure that they will not let Daniher go without matching.... and if they match, why shouldn't the crows match. It could get like a bag of cats.

For mine they should eliminate R1 compensation , it pollutes the mindset of clubs.. but id also rid the notion of RFA as well. Eight years is enough service to the afl system without having to be denied the right to choose because you are a good player..

Hawks picked Brad Hill with that pick, he would've been nice for the cats

Should not be getting rid of Narkle we need outside pace , good tackler and in nice age profile
Dont want to top up with older players
Play schenslog,evans,Stephens etc

I think Crouch clearly makes us a better player next year than the fringe guys people are panicking over losing...it's just I wouldn't want to give him 5 year a given his injury history. If we get him on a lower contract he is a fine addition.

As for Narkle we play him when he's fit usually..he's been injured..recently back..has things to work on. Not proven..I'd like to keep him but I wouldn't panic over losing him every year we lose fringe players and do fine.
I don't doubt he makes us a better side but I'm worried with cap dropping it won't be 1 or 2 fringe players pushed out

Sparkle Narkle on the move?
Just media gossip from SEN I believe. These people have to fill air time.

That said, it's possible I guess cos there'd be a number of clubs who would grab him thereby placing us in a good negotiating position. However, he has a lot of upside so I hope we keep him.

It's hard to know unless you know where the cap is going to but I get your point.
