Trade Radio Matt Rendell saying we offered Pies p38 for Henry accusing Mackie of lowballing teams and that other teams are pissed off and may not deal with us down the track. No round 1 offer for Bruhn either. Rendell is urging clubs to reject our offers and call our bluff. Now stating that other clubs want Wellsy back because he got deals done. Also saying Cats want way better for Esava than what we're offering for either Henry or Bruhn. He's daring Mackie to let the players drop into the preseason draft and good luck getting them with p18. This dude is bagging us big time and boy I reckon he's got some nerve. I think Mackie is being smart, just reflecting proper value knowing it's highly likely both Henry & Bruhn are probably 1 full season away from being in the team on a regular basis.
Just doing some favours for his old mates at Collingwood.

And I love it. Of course they want Wells back. We always complained because Wells paid overs to get the deal done quickly.
Yeah, and look what good that did us! (Ignoring four premierships, perpetually in the finals and being the most successful club of the AFL era)

If we send 18 for O Henry, it feels like we will get 41 back, or maybe even a future 2nd.

Not sure who we can package 38, (*41), 48, 55, 64 for a better set of picks or future picks?

Use 94, 112, 130 for Clohesy (bid - possibly), Close and Atkins upgrades.

You'd think Giants would want future picks and a player for Bruhn.

It was reported weeks ago. But it sounds as though both clubs have now gone back and asked for clarification so that the deal is correctly managed and in line with what the AFL originally advised.

Just ticking off protocols given there's clearly a bit of public scrutiny over the deal.

Henry deal getting much closer to being done I'm hearing.

Wouldn't be surprised if its 18 for Henry and pies f2..

A I liked this comment on Ess board

Do you go to the Cats, who, as good as they've been to snag a flag, aren't really tipped to go at it for too long. A lot of pending retirements/drop-offs there. A team that's given away a lot of their draft picks in recent years and have relied on, albeit successfully, luring A grade players that have happened to be from Geelong or thereabouts...

Or,

You can look at Essendon, a team starting anew, high class facilities, retained their players despite low form, rejuvenated the careers of former teammates, a fresh Scott at the helm, having blooded a myriad of first round draft picks into the side and holding pick #4 to boot...
LOL..

You get the feeling that he would relish this time of the year.
Remains to be seen whether sledging is an effective tactic at the trade table!

I listened to 30-40 minutes of Trade Radio on my drive home and safe to say I lost brain cells listening to Matt Rendell. How on earth he has been employed by clubs is beyond me, he sounds like a drunk rambling in a pub.

Among his gems were:

  • Brodie Grundy is a poor leader because he’s never been in Collingwood’s leadership group (rebuffed a minute later when someone told him Grundy was actually in the leadership group LAST YEAR)
  • Ratugolea (whose name he can’t pronounce) didn’t even play a senior game this year…. conveniently forgetting that he played the first three games and got injured, missing half the season from there 🤦‍♀️

If Rendell says we’ve offered a second rounder for Henry I have full faith that we’ve actually offered #18. He’s completely incompetent.

I think he would need to curb his tongue, smartarse comments in this context will be remembered, and will come back to bite him; and us

Think the idea is to try and retain 18 or F1 and utilise our other picks trading up plus what we get for Esava.

I get the idea but we would somehow have to trad esava plus all our later picks into an pick around 20 and that aint happening imo.
Besides gws will still probably ask for a future pick as they cant carry more picks this year. Id love if we can keep 18 or f1 but i dont see it happening.

Zonal systems basically failed last time because some teams got naturally stronger/better zones.

Maybe a "first dibs on any one player from your zone" might work? Still gives clubs rewards for working their zone well, but not a massive long-term advantage.....
They failed because they were supposed to be rotated every 3 years - Sir Kenneth Luke the AFL President ( ex Carlton ) buckled and didnt implement

So Hawthorn hit the gold mine with the Mornington Peninsula - but after 3 years that should have been rotated and given to Fitzroy say but that didnt happen

And your point about better zones - there is no better example than the 1970s - where the Cats were basically hopeless -nearly their worst decade ever - where as Carlton were a powerhouse winning flags

And there is 1 simple reason for that - in the 70s - and i dont care what anyone says - that Geel District League ( compared to the Bendigo League which Carlton had ) was absolutely hopeless in producing any talent - where as that Bendigo League was like a production line for the Blues - it produced champion after champion - eg Geoff Southby David McKay - Rod Ashman - and plenty of other top liners
