Cooper Stephens? Isn’t he the guy who was compared to Fyfe pre-draft?
No idea about comparisons with Fyfe but I watched his entire junior career.

He's Patty Dangerfield with far better disposal ... Just not as explosive.

Give him time. We need to get him to 50-70 games. He's missed a lot of football.

I guess thats one way to think on it ..... I tend to think the system is like a drug that was designed for one use ...and then someone else found an alternative way took at it and alternative use was found .

Sort of like Sildenafil, is an artificial compound that was originally synthesized and studied to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (a form of cardiovascular disease)

Sildenafil ... the chemical name for Viagra.

One might say what we have done to the system is what Viagra does for a lot of people. We were suppose to just fade off into a limp future of decrepitude ... instead what we have done is to stay active and infact become more potent.

To be more exact ... we have ****** the system.
The question then what, if anything, does the AFL do to restrict Geelong

I don’t want to s**t on a 20 year old who’d be excited to be coming home on his welcome to Geelong thread because I believe I’m better than that.

Can someone tell me why I should be excited? I feel like GWS won the trade so far

Watch these highlights and you'll see why - kid has natural talent and silky skill coming out of his ass:

Kicked 24 and 2 in his one solid game in the mids this year, and is an absolute bargain given he was drafted at 12 only 2 years ago - and was rated by some as a Top 10 prospect.

Is that the pisstake Cleary account or the real one? I ask because it seems hilarious that Ned Guy is the head of the AFL's "player movement" after his ineptness at Collingwood forced the movement of Treloar to the Dogs!!!
I was thinking the same thing. There is no way in the world that bloke could possibly be even considered, let alone hired as a “player movement” boss. Couldn’t even work out the basic principles of a spreadsheet at the pies. Still paying for it with Grundy.
Anyway if it’s true then there is no bigger living example of the AFLs jobs for the boys culture.

Well they changed Father Son ..after 2006. IMO for as much as we are accused of having great advantages due to Father son .. there is no doubt we did gain a huge advantage in 2006. Getting Hawkins and Selwood ensured that change happened. Now we would have one not both.

What could they do? Limit Free Agency to top 4 sides ? No Smith ?

Yeah but this post isn’t the information I’m after. I understand GWS midfield bats deep and most of them are well overpaid so people gotta go. I look on AFL Tables and the guy hasn’t had many 20+ touch games from his 30 games.

I guess if you look at pick 18 historically and factor in Bruhn should play 100+ games for us then the point is void?

Not sure we can get a genuine read on his potential based on his output at GWS considering he was playing a different role up there compared with his strengths & were we're likely to be playing him

Like a lot of youngsters who'll move into the guts over time, Bruhn started his career playing a bit more from the forward line & can be hard to get the best out of a player when they aren't playing in their best position

Similar situation to that of Parfitt who really only moved to being a full-time mid this year, after starting his career in the forward line & then "job sharing" between forward & midfield as he developed

If we walk away from the draft with Clark we're in a really good spot.

Clark, Stephens and Bruhn will tear midfields apart in 3 years.

Holmes on one wing, Knevitt on the other, with Atkins, Parf and Bowes running through the middle too...and Conway + Neale as 2nd ruck tapping it down to them - makes me drool just thinking about it, haha.

Completely rebuilt midfield with f*ck all picks traded out to make it happen. Incred

A couple better than this bloke in the draft... IMO.
Give me Phillipou any day, the second coming of the Bont.
But i'd prefer Cadman but he'll go Number 1 after F/S Ashcroft.

Awesome goal but got to mute the second video as the worst commentator I’ve ever heard is in it.

With no one to kick it to??
We haven't addressed the elephant in the room... Life after HAWK.
Hope they have some managers in their pocket for a player ready to step in if we don't address it this years draft.

Ned Guy? Omg no way we get a fair deal, Ned guy will screw us so we have to give Collingwood a better deal for o henry1!!1 I am gonna microwave my membership card and dump a loan of shit on the front steps of afl house, ****in corrupt afl

Richmond fans - am I doing it rite?

The difference is the Father Son rule as it stood was unfair and a little bit silly. Whereas free movement from players between any clubs isn't. It promotes clubs staying relevant, well run and successful (even if success simply means being in top 4 or finals conversation more often) even if they can't take home a flag. Which is a counterpoint to clubs tanking for draft picks or lacking the ambition to make the slow climb up the ladder.

If they limit free agent moves to top 4 clubs they might as well introduce other handicaps like those teams don't get to train with footies during the week or have a match day coach present.

What elephant?

We've got Cameron for the next 4 seasons, and Scratcher Neale has shown promising signs early in his career - we've got options up forward

Neale is a solid prospect and was a second rounder - jezz will be around still and I dare say Esava isn’t the worst second ruck if we keep him

As for young small forwards we have as good as anyone

Agree a young key forward via free agency or trade will be required in 2-3 years but not yet

Life after Hawk is Shannon Neale, IMO. Jez still has another 5 years in him, and then we'll draft/trade in his replacement. Given we've pretty much rebuilt our midfield in one trade period, I'm not really too worried, haha

Hawks and Richmond attracted some decent talent after already winning a flag, with younger squads than this Cats team. Lynch secured Tigers another two flags arguably, and Lake etc at Hawthorn. The Hawks kept attracting that talent but ultimately declined anyway. Yet people are kicking up a fuss when Geelong wins its first flag in 11 years simply because they've almost always made finals? When for years they were "making up the numbers" and selling their future for no material prize. Well here is one of the material prizes and it just happened to follow a flag most had written off as a possibility. Other fans would be looked at as an embarrassment in other sporting leagues around the world with their tantrum throwing.

In my opinion people over rate the success of round 1 picks, it seems to be the expectation that Rd 1 means a guaranteed quality AFL footballer when the statistics show even picks 10-20 are only 50% chance to play 100 games. I'm not sure Bruhn will be a jet but hes shown he can play at the level. I think pick 18 for someone I would guess will at least play some football for us should be considered a win.

The Father Son rull has been thru changes before ..and after Selwood Hawkins. and so have trades and drafting . FA goes back to the 10 years rule in the 70's ...it went away and then came back.

Changes ... who knows what they can come up with. ... Draft Cap penalty for top side brining in FA's who knows ... but Id be surprised if they do zero
