I am yet to give up on the forgotten Cat- Flynn Kroger. Saw him firsthand playing at Eastern, and when he was fit, a real talent.
So far, major issues staying uninjured.

I think a big part of us maintaining our competitiveness in the next few seasons ( and beyond) will be how the recent draftees develop - Neale , Conway , Willis , Kroger, Knevitt , Whyte and Dempsey. Add Ollie H, Bowes , Bruhn and #7 to that list and you have a decent young squad going forward who are to press for regular spots. The future mightn't be so bleak after all

Go all the talk on Sydney Stack and the comparison to the Stengel situation. I’m a No on stack. But what Stengel did was take his medicine and go back to the sanfl and play really good footy.
If stack can do that then come back and see me as a maybe. Till then a big no.

Yeah staggers me when I see people comparing the two, their situations are completely different. And if Stack goes to the SANFL and can do what Stengle did, then look at him. But off field they are not the same and it would be poor of us to recruit players with off field issues that haven't shown intent to better themselves.

I reckon Dempsey will be the biggest surprise packet. Has real untapped talent and athleticism. His start of the yr was as as good as any young player on our list with zero base. I see him as a future gun, Brett burton / rozee type on a hff or wing. Will surprise.

On the other end of the spectrum I reckon knevitt will be delisted.
Each to their own but Let me know when the last Geel player who debuted in year 1 (in a premiership year) that was a dud. Confident Mitch will be a good long term player.

The best ability is availability. I’d be more concerned with the seasons Kroeger, Whyte and Willis rolled out.

Josh Cowan.

Tom Gillies?

It's not like we've had many debutants in premiership seasons over recent years

My rough estimation of who might retire at the end of each year. Makes you think about succession planning. Rucks and Key Forwards are the big ones.

2023 : Hawkins, Tuohy, Smith
2024 : Rohan, Stanley, Ceglar
2025 : Duncan, Blicavs, Guthrie, Danger, Menagola

I wouldn't be surprised if your 2023 & 2024 names swap in terms of retirements

I can see two of Rohan, Stanley & Celgar retiring following next season. Menegola is another who's out of contract next season, and depending on how next year plays out in terms of injuries, he's one I could also see retiring

Respect you’re opinion but there would be a few. Notwithstanding this, it is foolish to surmise an opinion on external historicals of what has happened to other players which has nothing to do with Mitch. A more relevant way would be to look directly at the attributes of the player. In my opinion he lacks the competitive instinct to make it as a player. It’s the style and the way he plays and not to do with muscle (Dempsey is even thinner and displays it… look at Mackie etc.). Knevitt is too timid, poor kick, cant spread and his only move is to fall back into the tackle to release the arms to handball. He looked extremely sub par in the vfl last yr. To me, that’s not encouraging. Obviously it goes without saying I hope I’m wrong. This is my opinion only from what I’ve witnessed. There’s still 12 months to go and wish him all the best but I’d be totally surprised as he’s need to change his entire competitiveness and that’s between the ears.

Not sure about premiership years but we’ve had tons that debuted in year 1 and never amounted to anything. I think Gregson played almost the full season in the seniors in his first year.

I do agree Knevitt will come good though.

Its not that long before essentially our whole midfield is retired, I dont mind topping up with class, Danger and Guthrie arent getting any younger.
Parfitt, Holmes, Atkins plus our recent draftees and trades will be pretty handy as a MF unit for a while yet.
Any news on the fate of Sam Simpson? Always rated him pre concussion and shoulder concerns.

I rate all of these guys but to me none of them are going to be that true A Grade mid that can burst out of a stoppage, kick goals and ooze class, don't think weve got that on the list tbh.

Looks like they are keeping Simpson.

Debuted in their first year that was also a premiership year? Bit of a narrow focus.

Still, last time we won a premiership we debuted Tom Gillies after drafting him the year before. He even won best first year player.

I believe Holmes will be an A grader in the not too distant future, got the lot.
