why? Or are you looking at 2024?

At first I thought it was from the Essendon poster who was hanging around during the season & kept suggesting our best line-up included half the VFL team while ignoring a number of locks in the 22

I'm pretty impressed though that Kolodjashnij made the cut because he's normally one of the first dropped

Go all the talk on Sydney Stack and the comparison to the Stengel situation. I’m a No on stack. But what Stengel did was take his medicine and go back to the sanfl and play really good footy.
If stack can do that then come back and see me as a maybe. Till then a big no.

I'll change the vibe of the last few pages here.

I'm pumped to see what Ollie Henry can produce after a big preseason.

The kid kicked 7.3 in a VFL game earlier in the year, averaged about 3 goals in the VFL and 1.6 in the AFL this season.

Anyway, this is my excitement rankings for incoming players and recruits from the year prior.

#1 - Henry (has serious talent that can't be taught)
#2 - Pick #7 (which will end up 8) if we use it
#3 - Willis (saw his one decent VFL game last year and was so impressed that I actually rewatched it... there is something there)
#4 - Bruhn (as everyone knows I'm very unsure about him, but will give him time)
#5 - Bowes (would be a real bonus for us if this guy proves to be long-term best 22 level)

Honorable mentions - Dempsey, Conway, Knevitt.

I reckon Dempsey will be the biggest surprise packet. Has real untapped talent and athleticism. His start of the yr was as as good as any young player on our list with zero base. I see him as a future gun, Brett burton / rozee type on a hff or wing. Will surprise.

On the other end of the spectrum I reckon knevitt will be delisted.

I always thought Ben Ronke wasn't a bad sort of player for depth as a goal sneak... He's a good finisher and has wheels.

Is he worth a rookie shot? He's the right age profile for us.

Statistically he went pretty good in the VFL this year. Could be good depth behind Stengle, Miers and Close.

We are stacked for small / medium forwards so not required list wise. Otherwise would list him just for his Hawk skelping ability.

#3 - Willis (saw his one decent VFL game last year and was so impressed that I actually rewatched it... there is something there)

Great post D BRIDGE - I also saw the Willis game and totally agree - there were flashes of hardness , extreme pace , clean hands and good decision making - wow factor was there for sure.
Give him an injury free preseason and a good run at it and he could be one to surprise :thumbsu:

Seems odd to make that public but probably indicates they’re a fair way back and not much risk of another club drafting them.
List lodgement was due today. If they don’t get selected in the National draft then both get automatically added to our rookie list. Nobody can jump in. Further more Clohsey can be added as a Cat B rookie I believe now if no bids come in the National draft meaning he sits outside our 38 + 4 and salary cap. Smart business.

If somebody bids on Clohesy in the ND after pick 40 them we have the right to match it.

Pretty much guarantees they will both be at Geelong. How many available list spots now? 2. Is that a bad sign on McKenna? A little surprised by Riccardi. We just have so many of his type. Awesome 2k runner but he is only 177cm and 64kgs. It will be the long game with him:

I didn’t know it was automatic if no other club gets them in the draft. And we keep rookie pick 18 and 36, or are they used on them?
Riccardi has talent and he has 2/3 years to develop and put on weight if he is good enough for the seniors. By then we will probably have a vacancy for a player of his type.

Wonder if mullin remains the mystery man on the list for one more year…

Riccardi will be a slow burn development wise, but he has nice wheels and very very good in evasiveness. Maybe they see a lot of upside with him, given his small frame.

How is elijah Hewett not getting more love?
This is your Danger replacement.
So good on both sides of his body by both hand and foot.

Draft invites are out and he wasn’t one.

Be very unusual these days in the “made for TV” event for a player to be selected in the top 10 outside of the 12 invited.

It’s basically Cals first 12 picks with Busslinger in and Jefferson out

Feel he was stiff to be delisted but he only kicked 21 goals in 14 VFL games.

Edit - sorry, the above numbers were wrong, he kicked 34 in 14 games which is a different story. Didn’t get much of a gig in the seniors this year either. Named for seven games but three he started sub, and another he was the unused sub. The numbers in the four games he did play were decent, highlighted by 15 disposals and 3.1 v the Hawks. And he fits our age profile at 24 years.
He also accumulates tackles.

He kicked 7 goals and had 10 tackles in one match at AFL level. Albeit quite a few years ago, but he is only 24.

Hes had the opportunity to do that in the VFL really, when you compare his numbers to guys like Aarts and Ronke who also got delisted playing similar roles they arent even comparable, Id want better VFL performance to be taking the guy on.

Don’t mind Phillipou either. Good skills and size. Can play mid or forward. Good speed, endurance. Confident and appears determined to get the best out of himself. Good footy genes….dad, Sam, was a star SA forward. Has stated that he would be more excited going interstate than staying in SA. Could have a little more development and a higher ceiling than some of the others but can he get there?? Continued to contribute after damaging his back in the first quarter against Vic Metro, finished the game. Risk…maybe that he was always going to be a basketballer until this year so a little less known about him?? There’s probably safer choices….there’s always the debate about whether to draft on what you see and know now vs predicting what they could be in 3/4 years.

But then I can find lots to like in any of the top 10 projections. As always Cats would know way more than me as well as the type of players/people they are looking for.
Phillipou is very much like Bontempelli in playing style. You wouldn't complain with that type of player on the list.

I am yet to give up on the forgotten Cat- Flynn Kroger. Saw him firsthand playing at Eastern, and when he was fit, a real talent.
So far, major issues staying uninjured.

I don't think we can make a call on Knevitt until he puts on like 20kgs

My rough estimation of who might retire at the end of each year. Makes you think about succession planning. Rucks and Key Forwards are the big ones.

2023 : Hawkins, Tuohy, Smith
2024 : Rohan, Stanley, Ceglar
2025 : Duncan, Blicavs, Guthrie, Danger, Menagola

I'm just thinking of loud here. With us having committed to rookie listing Clohesy and Riccardi, hot on the heels of adding Bruhn and Bowes, with a bit of promise in Willis, Whyte, and maybe even Kroeger and Knevitt, I wouldn't be averse to taking both Busslinger and Northam with 7 and wherever 58 comes into. I'd be taking a view to load up on a couple of talls that could be kpd candidates

Its not that long before essentially our whole midfield is retired, I dont mind topping up with class, Danger and Guthrie arent getting any younger.

Reckon slot Rohan into next year
