As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

1 of bugger questions is what's going to happen with our ruck situation 🤔.

Obviously we will have Stanley on our list next year ✅

Ceglar will retire so we will need another ruck back up. 👋

Conway, there is a huge question mark on him , regarding his body can hold up, there is potential there, but we can't think and hold him that he will be the future for us..❔

So are we going to target a Flynn or Sweet or Hayes or Grundy? I hope we don't go for Lycett. But I haven't seen us linked to any rucks drom other clubs in the media besides Darcy which was meant to be fake.

Or do we get a mature ruckman from a state league that can be serviceable and do a job?

Or will we get a Kid from the draft?

Just trying to give some discussion to the group, would you like to try and engage and bring something or just find negatives in peoples posts.

I don’t see why Turner can’t be a BP
Turner is ordinary. If he got a game for Geelong I'd give up. We're already playing one short with O'connor so let's make it two.

Ok question to everyone... if we come with 3 picks in this years draft, what are the 3 position types you would pick ?

But we still may get players from trade period as well..
Pick would likely just be more or less best available for the first.

The other picks depend on what we take with the first. But ideally a decent mid prospect who can play forward with the first. A kpd/kpf and a winger with the other two my preference.

Strong draft for keys so we may end up with a key with our first

And who would you have play on the opposition’s second tall?
If Kolo and Esava are gone? Esava is the obvious one if he stayed. But otherwise Henry or Guthrie can play the role Kolo does. Also allowing space for an area we need to improve small defenders to match up on small dangerous forwards.

What have I missed with Kolo where is he off to.

I’d suggest Tuohy retires this year and Menegola and Ceglar aren’t offered new contracts - taking four 30+ players off our list.

Hawkins, Duncan retire next year. Dangerfield end of 2025.

I agree mostly i think it will be
2023-smith tuohy ceglar menegola (sam might play on at another club)
2024-hawkins duncan bews stanley rohan
2025-danger kolo

Im hoping blitz and guthrie go on to 2026 and beyond as until now theyve been really durable.

We are lucky we already have some of the replacements for those guys on the list eg
Rohan-ollie henry
Smith/tuohy-holmes as a winger
Bews-Bowes

We are hoping neale will replace hawk otherwise we will have to go to market for a kpf.
Ditto stanley and ceglar and the ruck if conway cant stay fit or come on.

I really rate clark and knevitt as mids coming through but we still need more mids of quality. Danger will leave a huge hole unless we can bring in free agent mids.
And did I read correctly we have 1 first rounder then nothing until pick 80. Neale, Knevitt to name a couple I don't think are the answer.

80 will come in to 60 as there will only be 60ish picks. But yes we have nothing btw r1 and then.

Assuming we dont trade out picks we will have say 12ish + p30ish (for sav) +58 59 and 60 for example.

Im a believer in best available with top 20 picks and needs only later. But list wise we need inside mids/general mids and a devlopment kpd/kpf (im assuming sav goes). We also need a small defender and a development ruck but stats say you can get those 2 things with late/rookie picks.

Cegs goes and stanley will stay but isnt fit enough to play 22 games anymore. Given the ? Over conway health wise we need to bring in a mid 20s ruck in case stanley declines or is injured. I think we will grab someone cheap for that like flynn or a delisted FA like sweet or hayes. Just cover for 12 months. If the ruck situation is still dire mid next year chase darcy or another top ruck then.

Take a kid ruck as a rookie pick for developing depth

We are going to have to get extremely creative in the off season but I think Mackie and Wells are up for the challenge.

We need a mix of defender and midfield Moneyball options.

Paddy Dow: He will get plenty of suitors but he should be near the top of the list.

Brodie Grundy: Would much prefer him to Darcy from Freo. If the money is right, I cannot see why we wouldn't go hard.

Jeremy Sharp: With Isaac Smith retiring we are going to need another wingman, particularly if Holmes is going to move to the inside. I rate Sharp and think he can play. Will cost little.

Coffield: Second poster who mentioned him first. Worth a strong look.

Gresham: If the price is right.

Duursma: Should be asking for him in the Sav trade if he goes to Port. Or Hugh Jackson.

Jack Ross: By no means a world better but we need more depth through the middle. Won't be expensive.

Jack Bytel: Consistently on the fringes at St Kilda and dominates the reserves every week. Won't be expensive.

Nick Haynes: Would prefer him as a stop gap to Doedee simply due to longevity. I rate Doedee but don't have any faith in his body holding up.

Finlay Macrae: Dominated at Collingwood reserves. Can't get a game. Sneaky under the radar option for mine.

With free agency there's no need to really target positions at the draft. Just get the best available. If anything we have more of a need for talls especially if Sav moves on but only tilt that way if it's a toss up.

Certainly I feel you take the ip you have developed over multiple years ...and develop your opinion on the players..and with your first pick take the best. If needed balance it a bit with your later picks.

Look im not saying there automatically selections, do have Neale and Foster as potential candidates as key forwards, but there are 2 to work with...
Neale I think has real prospects and I can see him building through 2024…

Foster is a beautiful kick and is tall with decent hands….but his work rate is really poor as is his body language. Maybe fixable given age but if he doesn’t address that next year I would not be surprised if he has an early exit

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Parish may very well stay with the Dons, but if it's for the reason that he thinks they are going places... He is off his rocker.

That club is going nowhere.

They struggled to beat West Coast... North is pushing them to their limits and have twice this year... we even absolutely wrecked them twice and we are just bogus this year.

Come back to Gtown Darcy... Dons are tripe.

Well Sweet is playing today so it will be interesting to see how he goes at the top level again. If he does go alright we should've definitely target him.
Thought Neale did ok last night, I'd prefer if we didn't use a pick on a ruck this year.

Parish, Doedee and another first round pick or two and we're right there.

I don't know whether it's next year, the year after, or when the kids hit their prime..but it'll happen. #11 is on the way.

Not only do I have full faith in our club to get it right, but I've just never seen such a weak competition.

A club carrying Oleg Markov and Billy Frampton with Dan McStay as its key post simply cannot be the benchmark, and wouldn't have gotten close in another era.

He's gone, and it'll be to us unless St Kilda blow their cap (And good luck to them if they do)

Who's ever signed this late? Andrew Gaff after suffering from a guilty conscience?

We can only hope that he wants to be gone... Hasn't sounded like it but fingers crossed.

Might just be holding out for more $$$.

He is in a good position to take his time and his manager knows it.

But the Dons are no good and he should know it.

Sweet wasnt picked for the afl side
