with us routingely getting smashed center square and stoppages, do we think we should ask the question on sean darcy again? former falcon, only 25, workhorse in the ruck all day, can conway do 20% ruck, 80% forward in the future?
No. Conway will become a star, and darcy will provide little additional benefit for the cost to get him.

I don’t think anyone would waste Darcy as a ruckman when he looks this good as a 20yo KPF, but can’t see him wanting to leave or us affording him

Oliver would want to improve his form among other things. He's been average this year. Okay-ish at finding the ball but a liability with it, and offers zero defensively. Melbourne's midfield has been well beaten by some mediocre sides.

I understand he had no pre-season, but he isn't the Oliver of 2021/2022.

We could easily be getting into another Jack Steven type situation.

I’m very lukewarm on the idea. I tend to wonder as well if we’ve already seen his best footy.

I hope those suggesting Rory Lobb as an option have changed their mind.

I do not want him anywhere near the club. Hack.

So who's the back up ruck we need to go after next year 🤔
Obviously Conway is the future, but we need the back up ruck that may have to play 10-15 games as the durability of Conway is a big question mark?

Ill start with Peter Ladhams. Might be still in contact but the amount of games his played for Sydney, you would get him for a pick 50

Ideally moyle but i doubt he comes unless you promise him the no1 spot (which we wont).
I dont mind pistol pete onfield-off field is another matter.
Reidy from freo would be another obvious target who will move.
Id like to see if heath could be gotten out of st kilda but that might not be easy.
I also like bryan out of essendon and hes ooc.
Obrien might be gettable if adelaide get someone like moyle but hed need to come here as backup for a couple of years bc you cant play him and conway together.
Ideally we need a bit of a ruck forward type so we can play them together if needed but those are harder to find.

I’ve said it all along but if we need a mature ruck as a back up next year just get one cheap or from the VFL as Conway will be getting more games over the next few years anyway

Didn't realize Olivers contract was so long, probably best pass on it and not sure Melbourne would do it. What's bonts contract status? 🤔

Bont is an RFA next year i think but he wont leave the doggies.

Theres no reason for melb to trade clarry when they are in the window unless they can get a good kpf the other way (which they wont). Draft picks arent that much value to them where they are at.

To clear $1m salary cap space?

Yes but the 95 % rule limits your ability to use that space (ie if it was 80 % then it allows teams to bank money heavily and chase a player the year after).
Hes contracted til 2029 so unless you think hes going off the rails and out of the afl next year they wont lose any leverage waiting a year.
Their window is now bc they only have a year or two of peak may and gawn left. The only reason to trade oliver is to get a top end kpf but none are on the market now.
They are better off holding him 12 months for when the FA market will be better.

Hence the red flag when they put him on the table last year

It’s a very fine line and I worry it is almost like the comment made a few years ago by Adel in regards to indigenous recruits

Mooney has literally zero involvement in the operation of the club at any level, he hasn't even appeared on the podcast.
I wouldn't read anything into it

I didn’t say he did , just said that the statement does remind me abit of the one made about indigenous recruits family background being taken into consideration

It’s all well and good to want to take good characters into account but I think judging players/people by their family background is a step too far imo especially to be saying it out loud.

I would like Moyle, but I would think Geelong would be wanting Conway him to be taking that no 1,
Reidy like you said be good. Also you would only have to trade a Mars bar to get him... Him just as a ruckman winning hit outs he would easily do the jobs, as his stats in the WAFL are all in the 40s, but only question mark on him ( which you may know better ) what's he like around the grounds?

That connection was deliberately set up by the image macro released by Fox Footy. You are supposed to make that connection.

The difference was that was said by an Adelaide head recruiter. Mooney as a member of the Fox Footy media team suggested it was a policy of Geelong (and Sydney) where he'd have no idea. People not paying attention would see it being said by a former Geelong veteran and assume he has some insider take about Geelong's recruitment policy (again the Sydney part of the claim would wash away as he couldn't be perceived to be an insider there), when he doesn't.

His comments only reflect his own bias and nothing on the club or its recruitment polices.

Was told last night by someone connected to the bulldogs that the 2 clubs are talking about a possible trade involving both Bailey Smith and Jack Macrae.
