Ask and we'll try our best to assist - so here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

As normal, would like to acknowledge & thank Lore for creating this, keeping it up to date and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

I find it really interesting how quickly people forget that Oliver is a two time AFLCA Player of the Year winner.

To have an opportunity to bring in a player like this (ever) through trade is incredibly rare.

Would there be a risk here? Yes.
Is said risk why this is actually conceivable? Also Yes.

If we can make this work and think we have the structure in place to get Oliver back to anywhere near his best, it's a great opportunity and will improve our biggest area of weakness.

I'd back them in on this.

Na he had one bad off season.

He’s poison.

I’m not being serious

100% agree with this. And to further your point, our four biggest trades in the last two decades have been resounding wins:

Jezza which the media went hard at because of 3xFR picks.
Tim Kelly being traded away, we won that simply because of what we did with those picks… turned them into a known commodity - Jezza.
Ottens. Enough said.
And as a bonus you can add in the Bowes deal, which we were able to pull off because of the way we manage our salary cap.

All of those are very different and great examples of why not to trade for oliver.

So a kid who didn’t take his footy serious when he was 17 and has one off the rails post season and you’re going to write him off.
May as well not even be a competition if that’s the way you feel.
Imagine using a 17 years olds behavior against them.
We all made mistakes back then and if you said you didn’t then sir you are a liar

Clubs dont draft players all the time because of conditioning issues and professionalism. Why should this be any different especially when its a 6 year huge money contract? This is how life and its consequences are.

I dare say it was something that hadn’t kicked off yet.
Think about it.
Everything Oliver did wrong and got found out by with videos and photos was in a 3 month period. Not after one post season then some from another.
He was off the rail significantly, he got back to playing AFL but his post season into pre season ruined his fitness and we all know the issues with any player who doesn’t do a pre season.
They all struggle.
I want him, I want him badly.
I only want him if his contract is slightly paid by Melbourne.

I have said I want Oliver but I don’t like his contract.
You may have inside word due to your opinion of him and I’ll trust the club whether they do or do not trade for him.
His season is over and the trade period is in 2 months.
It will say a lot whether he’s got his shit together or not.

Nah, not really.

Ottens was maligned when we got him.

Jezza came off a below par season.

Tim Kelly looked like a top 3 player in the league.

Our midfield and defence got spanked tonight vs Saints.

If you think we wouldn’t be better with a fit and firing Oliver and Smith in the midfield you have rocks in your head.

And as others and I have said, Nick Haynes in defence would’ve been extremely handy.

Alas, this season at hand is troubling.

Defence has been horrible this year but in the first half when our pressure was up and they were just bombing it in they were intercepting everything.

Second half showed just how shit our midfield is and it it affects the rest of our game.

We NEED hard edged midfielders who actually want to win the ball and can deliver it forward.
