Good point GC26 , his greatest strength became his greatest weakness eventually.Real tradgedy that no club wanted to have a look at him and a bigger tradgedy his career went this pathway.
Always had huge hopes for him since his debut season. His zip n zag in contests as a junior was elite and he showed huge promise his debut AFL year.
I feel more than anything he became a victim of changing times in the AFL. Modern game is more about impact and distance gained per possession, where someone like parfitt brings very little to the table in that sort of environment.
Good point GC26 , his greatest strength became his greatest weakness eventually.
The zip n zag became a liability when he used it too much and ignored the first option - he would get into trouble and I dare say became unpredictable to his teammates which destroyed flow to our game.
Zip n Zag might have worked as a junior or even when he first started but the game has become far more defensive and pressurised now , you need to sum things up so much quicker now and take the best option quickly.
He was deceptively hard to catch thought as he was a very nippy zig zag type of a player. He ran in circles a bit more than straight lines.Wouldn't exactly call him a speedster!
Carlton, Fogarty was an important part of their team last year before he got hurt. Rest dead.Who has won the jackpot poker hand
Carlton got Smedts Lang and Fogarty
Perth got Constable Simpson and Parfitt
Easy on Tiger, he'd still be the 18th to 22nd bloke picked in there.Carlton, Fogarty was an important part of their team last year before he got hurt. Rest dead.
I think sometimes people see that a player is Aboriginal and assume automatically that he must be a small, evasive, zippy forward.Wouldn't exactly call him a speedster!
This was runoured to be part of the driver of the Eagles recruitment team not pursuing Humphries.I think sometimes people see that a player is Aboriginal and assume automatically that he must be a small, evasive, zippy forward.
Eh, Humphries came from the clouds. I wouldn't put too much creedence in those rumoursThis was runoured to be part of the driver of the Eagles recruitment team not pursuing Humphries.
Ahhh i dunno, I feel like the source we had was somewhat connectedEh, Humphries came from the clouds. I wouldn't put too much creedence in those rumours

It was an absolute Barry Crocker of an effort by West Coast's WA talent scout to let Humphries go to another club.Don't forget though that Humphries was part of WCEs academy, and they bought him to Perth to complete his schooling & train further under their watch
Not sure he's exactly come from the clouds, but maybe they misread what type of player he was
Sure, but that was a while ago and clearly nobody thought he was AFL talent then.Don't forget though that Humphries was part of WCEs academy, and they bought him to Perth to complete his schooling & train further under their watch

Totally agree , the very definition of a role player is our Brad.Spot on, and this is why guys like Brad Close go unappreciated by fans, because he just does what he needs to - sees and option and hits it. He might not break tackles, baulk the opponent, or go on a dashing run but he always uses it well and swiftly.
Most of the aboriginal boys are exciting and electric players. There are a few who arent, but for the most part they bring incredibly exciting traits to our gameI think sometimes people see that a player is Aboriginal and assume automatically that he must be a small, evasive, zippy forward.

It seems to be very rare that you find imdigenous boys who are kp sized players, mostly seem to be forwards or midsAboriginals are somewhat more athletic and better suited to playing both footy codes of AFL and NFL in Australia compared to the rest of us Aussies. As an example, there's 8% of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander players in the AFL compared to 3.8% of the total Australian population. But also 'surprisingly' to my understanding that there is 12% Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander that play in the NRL..... so the boys sure can play footy!
Put a line through Harley. McClure just gave the kiss of death to a trade

West Coast didn't bring Humphries to Perth. His family applied for an Indigenous scholarship at Hale School to give him a better education. West Coast didn't know anything about him until he was selected in the Flying Boomerangs whilst attending Hale SchoolDon't forget though that Humphries was part of WCEs academy, and they bought him to Perth to complete his schooling & train further under their watch

We lost our head of recruiting who went to Freo last year so the Wells diamonds in the WA rough might be most for a while.West Coast didn't bring Humphries to Perth.
