Jenkins embarrassed himself in that play. It was the worst bit of play I've seen from a crows player. Was sad in fact.I don't know what the hell the guy (can't remember) was doing running along side him? Maybe they were spent but they should have been pushing hard to get that handball as Jenkins was drawing the player. Jenkins has the right idea but the guy wasn't on the same wave length.
simon tregenza in rd 2 as well
2017 was built on just more than the ageing players.Lets be honest now JJ has limitation and that is he isn't that good he is serviceable if the heat is off him with tex copping it, but if tex is off then JJ is in trouble, he is handy when we have the quality forward as he is hard to match up on size wise
do you agree with me know that the aging players were the reason we were so strong in 2017 unfortunately we couldn't use James Hirds fountain of youth cure and their days are numbered
God you make shit up. Sumich didn't want to come. You think pyke is happy working with all those assistants and Burton etc?
Pykes one request was he wanted sumich, was told no by the board, end of story.
Do you want that from your coach? Will we ever hear him say "this is not good enough. Heads will roll." Let's be honest, he is dead man walking and may be gone before the year is out if we win 8 to 10 games.Pyke sounded extremely flat and quite frustrated in the presser, but I also didn't hear anything that suggested he knows how to fix it
Was all a bit "I don't know why we are playing like this"
I haven't had a chance to watch the game yet, but I wonder what's happened between the form we showed in the pre-season to now? We seemed to have an unstoppable game in the JLT - free flowing, fast by hand and foot, leading forwards, goal kicking galore, efficient movement of the ball. What has changed between now and then? The loss of Doedee in round 1 can't be underestimated, but it certainly can't be the difference.Pyke sounded extremely flat and quite frustrated in the presser, but I also didn't hear anything that suggested he knows how to fix it

Sorry mate your not right there. This is the common misconception which the club sold supporters. We needed to get better and cut out the cancer. We got older and backed in the same flogs who let you down every time. The Gibbs trade should see the firing of Reid for bringing his client to our club. The Gibbs trade looks bad in hindsight, but at the time we did it, we had just played in a grand final and needed to add experienced players.
Not many of us genuinely expected the club to fall into a bundle of shit so easily

2017 was built on just more than the ageing players.
Brad had a strong year.
Smith has a strong year.
Laird has a strong year.
Matt was our B&F.
The list goes on.
We had no injuries.
From our 2017 missing are Cameron, Lever and Gov.
But yes our senior players were great in 17 and now they aren’t, but our coaches are playing to the 2017 structures and personnel thinking they will get the same result.

Last night I ventured to the Halls of Montezuma and it was not enjoyable.
Eddie is Cooked as a Christmas Turkey.
The forwards are generally not working at all and zero confidence.
Blah.
We talked about this on our preview show. We haven't replaced like for like. People say Kelly is playing the Brown role but at times he was on bloody Hawkins last night. No Brown and Doedee has really thrown out the balance of our backline.
A small who can lockdown - Brown. We don't have that at all now.
An attacking/intercepting defender who has a presence in the air - Doedee. We don't have that now.
Got three running attack minded players who are average/poor one on one defenders - Laird, Smith, Milera
Three key defenders who you don't want getting the ball ideally - Talia, Hartigan, Keath
One lockdowm medium defender who is perhaps the worst field kick in the AFL - Kelly.
Lacks flexibility and balance.
The defenders like Rampe who can play small or tall and can attack/intercept as well as defend one on one are absolute gold.
Gibbs heading back gave us some composure/control but he's still not adding anything we're missing from Brown/Doedee.
Just get more games into our youth. It's doing wonders for Geelong. We talked about this on our preview show. We haven't replaced like for like. People say Kelly is playing the Brown role but at times he was on bloody Hawkins last night.
McHenry could do that job and Fog needs to be our intercept defender imo

Especially when we've got a player in the SANFL who is both in form and is a specialist in that role. Davis should have played the last two games (with Mackay dropped after R1).
Well, what a season this is turning out to be. For some reason most of the team has forgotten how to kick a football and 2 ACLs in 3 rounds to good players. ****!
2 things are blindingly obvious and overlap:
We have at least 1 terrible disposal in every chain of play.
That disposal is usually the one going into f50.
No player seems immune from this. As good as Geelong were, we were in with a chance until crouch missed an easy snap from 20 meters out.
Skills and form can come back but our systematic troubles going into the forward line is a huge concern. There is zero cohesion.
Good:
Geelong. Their defence (we helped them a lot) was very strong and their forward line powerful. They were also methodical in the midfield. Skills were really sharp. Basically everything I thought we could have been this year.
Sloane is our best player. Often knows when to give and when not to, which is something a lot of players struggle with.
I thought Brad Crouch did some very elite movements in traffic to show he's getting the confidence of an A grader. Shame about that snap for goal. He was still pretty good though.
That's basically it.
Okay:
Milera and smith really did try and take the game on and somehow set us up for scoring opportunities despite the brain fades from others along the way. They seemed a bit desperate though, which isn't comforting.
ROB had an interesting game. I think people expected him to come in in game 3 and play as an experienced ruckman. I was surprised to see him dominated in a lot of contests so easily. I thought that was actually his strength. I'm willing to give him more experience to see how that goes. His kicking was a real mixed bag as expected. Give the handball! BUT, his work on the ground was quite good. He's aggressive and can actually win a ground ball. I'd give him time.
Bad:
Hasn't been a lot said about Seedsman. I was wondering if he was injured before that as I barely saw him and when I did he didn't look to be up and about? Anyway, devastating for him as he was really starting to blossom as an AFL footballer. Feel for him. Sucks that it's 2 important players that have gone down. Only positive of having 2 ACLs is that they won't be going through the process alone.
Betts looked like he was back in some form in the pre season but I think i can unfortunately now admit that he's cooked.
Laird was horrible?? What the hell happened to him in the off season? Never been a laser boot but he usually makes sound decisions, is clean and is good for 30 touches.
Walker and Jenkins are lost. We really don't make it easy for them though. They don't deserve as much of the blame as they're getting. Some absolutely butchered kicks to them last night.
Thought our defenders were outbodied all night. Hartigan as per usual. Keath also panics 1 on 1.
Kelly is Kelly. We already knew this.
Mackay back to standard.
I called Matt crouch to take his game to another level this year. Looked like he was going to dominate from what I saw in the pre season. He's actually down on form imo.
Can't say much about Gibbs that hasn't already been said. Really coasting. Looks average.
I really don't think personnel changes will be the fix that everyone is hoping for. Our biggest issue is that forcefield at half forward where our players seem to lose their minds. That is a coaching and structural issue imo. Skills can improve but we also look lost and confused.
Anyway, changes can go some way of helping:
Out: Seed , Mackay, Betts, Kelly
In: FOG (back line), Greenwood, Stengle, Mchenry
May as well get them exposed now. We're not contending.
youre comparing a trial match to that of the real stuff
most coaches use trial matches for what they are there for, to experiment with options
I think this is an issue for the clubBottom line is that this is not 2017, we are in the year 2019. Our experienced mature players of 2017 have hit the wall, from here onwards its only going to get worse for them.
We had our shot in 2017 as the draft is designed to do and we blew it. We wont land in a grand final until we clean out the admin, coaches, and replace our aging players.
The three players that wanted so much more than they were worth like CC, Gov and Lever would have helped facilitated that transition of replacing players like Tex and Betts for starters. Question remains should we have kept them? Who did we end up securing given the treasure chest we had from not paying them overs?
He was there in the 3rd too, put in some great leads but got burntWhen was the move?
I first realised Seeds was up forward in the second quarter and he did nothing.
He moved to wing in the third and he had his best quarter.
As for why not? He ain’t a forward and we need him delivering to our forwards. How about a move to half back?
