Tonight reinforced we don't have the impact midfield or burst pkayer. Wish they would try Milera (who was awful) or Doedee or Pedlar or FOG more often to get them developed as a pinch hitter. Tonight the Laird, Dawson, Sloane, Rachelle combo in the centre just didn't work in the last. Nicks was devoid of other options
I would have thrown Hinge in the middle, kicking into our forward line was crap easy for the Pies to defend a mongrel ball along the ground would have been harder to defend.

It's been overlooked because of the run of green we otherwise received, especially in the last. The non-frees to Murphy and Johnson were s**t that wouldn't be missed in U9s.

Albeit I’m not going to complain about the umpiring tonight from our end because we got the the rub of the green. However how many times have we had games where it’s been ridiculous and you don’t hear boo post match.

Yet when the sides are switched and it’s a big Vic club who has copped the rough end of the decisions suddenly everyone wants a Royal commission into umpiring..

Good - Getting so close to an experienced (on average over 100 games - for reference we have 3 or so players that have played over 100 games in our whole team) top of the table team and only losing due to our lack of composure in front of goals & defensively in the last quarter.

Bad - Not sure if this is tank related but our CBA's in Q4 were Keays, Dawson & Laird with Sloane the only other guy to go in. Nicks was trying to hold the lead. In the first quarter we had Rachele & Soligo go through as well.

Ugly - Goal kicking of course. Harry as a sub I assume was an insurance in case Laird injured himself but Harry is not the kind of player to be sub... Should've been Cook and should've been earlier. In Harry's defence getting up to speed in an intense match in the last quarter would be very difficult and it looked that way too. Other teams bring on pace to help them late in games and that was an error by us.

I actually wanted Rankine to just take that shot, he kicks that almost every single time. Soligo should have still kicked it, but Rankine on that type of angle is almost just write it down stuff.
Was more annoyed at the Tex one. He can kick goals from long range so why is he attempting a short pass to a player with a man on him, in wet conditions?

Just read properly next time, this is the 2nd time you've dug up old posts of mine and interpret them incorrect. Maybe you are unemployed and old 😂....seem like Southerntakeover hates them or he is just projecting :)
there’s no misinterpreting your below statement.
You included Laird as an a grade talent and you included a 25yo in a 21-24 age bracket even though you asked who has called him one?
You then proceeded to call him young not realizing he was actually in his 7th year of afl.

That should have been potential which is why I included the others, you can't judge them when they are that young. Anybody with basic football knowledge know this, don't you????
If you can’t judge them by their 7th season of football when can you?

Collingwood played exactly like the Hawks last week. All 18 player in the Crows half and 12 in the 50meter arc. They then spread with speed in waves to get the ball to their fwdsor run it the full length of the ground
Saints are doing same , good entree for 2 weeks time

We need to make better decisions in our forward line

What a disaster that contract has been, no hindsight - plenty called out at the time on how stupid it was.

That was an horrendous decision and pretty sure that other than Dawson and Laird, we don’t offer 5 year contracts anymore. Rankine didn’t get one.

Soligo has now had 3 sub-par games in a row, he's not at the pace of the game when the pressure is high, he's a step behind everyone around him and it showed up for the second week running in his poor disposal and slow decision making - I think he broke the club smothered record today. He's really sliding into the second year blues quickly. I would have subbed him off too if not for Milera demanding it more.

Speaking of, that last quarter is reason enough alone to tear up Milera's contract. Diabolical.

Michalanney best on for us, the only player to both consistently beat his man all 4 quarters and also not cough the ball up by foot repeatedly.

Having now drawn the gaze of all in the midfield, Dawson now has the next 5-10 weeks to learn how to deal with that attention, and hopefully we don't gut out and flick him off to a flank again, because it's important he breaks through that roadblock.
Soligo was one of our better players for 2nd week in a row , is in his second season and played 90% TOG by time he was subbed ( he shouldn’t have been subbed )

There was alot of pressure around the ball , of course some of his kicks were smothered

Tracking very nicely and it wasn’t his fault , should have nailed that goal though

The only person Billy beats is himself.

The only impact he had tonight was a cheap free kick for a goal (when all of that incidental ruck holding was basically ignored all night)

He was a spud with the Power, a bigger spud with us, and yes he still is a spud.
Can’t believe people last 2 weeks talking up Billy

Pretty low bar

ROB flogged him around the ground

People saying ‘ he’s not a ruck he’s doing a good job neutralising ‘

Yeah , he’s not a ruck , not a key defender and not an afl player full stop

He can kick the ball though , I’ll give him that . But doesn’t get many kicks when he’s got an opponent

That was a tough loss to take. Obviously we didn't take our chances in the first quarter and a half when we had all of the play. You cannot do that against good teams as they will make you pay, and that's exactly what a good team in Collingwood did.

I feel that there are many positives to take out of this game though. We now know that we can compete with the good teams. Up until now I think we have had some easy games, despite some being against highly rated teams on paper.

That final quarter was the difference between a team with experience and self belief in winning close games, and a team that is inexperienced and didn't cope well in that situation. Lots to learn there, and that includes in the coaches box.

Chins up folks, there's lots to like about this young group!

I might be in the minority here it's not all doom and gloom surely.

Yes we wasted some good opportunities at goal but **** me years gone by we lose that by 10+ goals and made look like a SANFL side.

Some need to pull their finger out Milera {I thought Smiths kicking was bad in the first 4 rounds **** me}, Murph. But there are positives to come out such as another Jones game, Soligo was great after a couple of weeks ago stinking it up.

Yes we probably should have won but again its not all doom and gloom and microwaving memberships time just yet.

Must have been a tough game, in tough conditions. But I don't remember many times we kicked to the advantage of Tex and Fog.

Their defenders were great, but I wonder how much of it was them reading the play vs us kicking to the defenders advantage over and over again.

When they reach their prime, the discussion was who would have replaced our A grade players when they retire.
