Good sides know how to win ugly, and that win was about as ugly as it gets.

It’s great to see how we don’t give and kept fighting, and we got the reward for it.

At the end of the day, the stats will show that we got the win, and we’re now 4-2 heading into a tricky part of the draw (Collingwood, Geelong, Brisbane), but with the confidence we can grind out a tough win on an off day if needed

Good:

Win when we play average and they play well. We're not a top side and can't expect to beat every team below us comfortably.

Hawks were pretty good. Barely gave us an inch at the stoppage and tackling was first class. Didn't let us get a quick handball out. They also did well on the rebound. Credit to them. Didn't play like a bottom team after the 1st quarter.

Walker and Fogarty probably bog despite being beaten in d50 in the air.

Michalanney again. Will he ever gave a bag kicked on him? Played very well defensively this week. Not much offensively this week.

Hard to pick winners this week. Lots of good and bad.

Pedlar had a decent game. He's a midfielder for certain. Crazy intensity at the contest. Fun to watch. Will get suspended a lot.

Bad :

Midfield I feel got torched a bit by a pretty average midfield. No real winners there. Even Dawson struggled at the contest.

Forwards struggled in the air for the most part. Their kpds did well when we didn't have time and space.

Doedee average after a very good game last week.
The commentators said a number of times the Hawks were the leading clearance team in the comp in 2023 I'm sure?

Today Crows 46 Hawks 39.

Are any of the Ben Keays fan club that jumped all over me last week tell us all where Benny was in that second half?

Missing persons report is in order..
him and murphy struggled

keays first half quite good

murphy tried hard late couple of good clean possessions when i mattered

overall down, no lone soldiers but hope they play better next week

The ugly is all this has done is reduced our draft pick. We're not competing in finals this year.

Imagine going up against a team bringing that pressure in a final, but with actual AFL standard skills

SANFL team looked flat, AFL team looked flat.

Whatever we did over the 10 day break (probably put some load into the team) took the edge off.

But that was also a reversion to the mean.
It's obvious we drank too much of our own bathwater after the Carlton game.

Just take the win and never speak of the game again.

Good:

Was definitely not a "drank the bathwater" moment. We came out well, and worked hard. Hawks though are a tough skilless side who have only one style and that is make everything hard for the opposition. Not every game in the AFL is like us v Carlton - that's why that game was so special. Sides that have drank their own bathwater get tapped early in the game and then go to pieces. We didn't.

Fog - can kick
Rankine - worth everything we paid.
Rachele in the first half and last kick to Fog
Soligo in the first half
Sloane worked hard and a lot off disposals, but until the last half of the last quarter I wasn't really aware of him doing much

Not a lot of winners, such a fricken ugly game.

Hinge and Butts were not great

A lot to think about for Nicks after this. Collingwood are going to be very tough, but a much different game - basically two side who play the same way, should actually be fun to watch.

The umpiring was shit. Putting away the whistle penalises teams laying actual good tackles

Anyway, it's 4 points and a win when we were absolute toast. Could be the difference between playing the finals or not.

Painful to watch. Kicks to forwards were always a little off early. Talls were mostly poor in the air, except fog. The made Laird and Dawson earn everything. Rachelle could have torn the game apart in the first half but kicking was off.

But, we broke a hoodoo.

Talent stood up when the game was on the line and we won from behind.

Fog and Rankine kicked clutch goals. We’ve got a few years of that to look forward to.

Just bank the points and move on.
