Are you hung over? "Did you watch" referred to your reliance on stats to assess his pressure work. Noone has him locked in, most of us agree on his deficiencies and lament the pick we spent. But you just cannot fault the kid's commitment to the contest.
Don’t be a dick. I was at the game and have also watched the replay.

How many people quote stats? Do you always lead with “did you watch the game”. I could have said he attacked the contest ferociously on a few occasions and then pointed out his shit stats which measure you know defensive pressure. But I considered these few contests not worthy of compensating for the general shit game.

Do you think he’s offering more than Petrenko did?

Hypothetical: if Berg continues with this form for the season, would you trade him to GWS, Gold Coast, WB etc for one of their emerging quick mids?

It would be a brave call, not one we're prone to make, but given we have RT, I probably would.
No. Make that **** no!

Tex is getting close to retirement. Fogarty isn't up to it, and Frampton is completely done as a KPF. That leaves us with just Gollant, Berg & TT going forward. We're short of decent tall forwards as it is, trading one of the few that we have would be suicide.

The ideal is to trade players from areas where we have depth - HBF or small-mid forwards (not Rachele!) would be ideal for us, as we're well stocked in both areas. You don't trade players from areas where you're already shallow on depth, such as KPFs or rucks.

There's a thing called a draft.....

If he continues this form, what we’d get for him wouldn’t cover what he’s doing.

What the f***?

We were literally talking about the pointless negativity of the posting on here, and you defended it by saying "how would we improve if we accept mediocrity". To which people said - it doesn't MATTER what we accept or don't on here, we have zero influence.

Which part of the conversation did you not understand? All that's happened is people have pointed out exactly what you said.

Accepting that what is posted on this board is unimportant, it's very difficult to see the case for 'positive posting' as a point of morality. It is also without influence.

What if people just post their views and we deal with them on their merits rather than having politically motivated complaints about whether we think that reflects well or poorly on the club.

There's a thing called a draft.....
Yep... and very few players come straight into the team and make their mark, particularly KPFs.

... in the meantime, while we wait for them to develop, we'd be left with Gollant & TT as the only KPFs on our entire list (and Gollant isn't really tall enough to be a KPF, he's a 3rd tall). That's stupid to the point of being a complete disaster.

We're really, really, thin on the ground for KPFs going forward, once Tex retires and Fog is delisted.

Look at JUH, TT & McDonald - the 3 gun KPFs from the 2020 draft. None of them have cemented their positions in their respective teams yet, and there's nothing wrong with that because tall forwards take time to develop. So drafting Lemmey, and expecting him to come straight into the side, is a ridiculous ask.

We need to be drafting Lemmey (and a gun midfielder), as well as keeping Berg.

It doesn't matter what we "accept". We're just anonymous fans on an internet forum. Literally nothing we do or say has any influence on whether the team improves.

This board has become absolutely cooked. Just more and more negative bitterness, no matter what actually happens. The number of people on here who seem to be genuinely hoping that players go badly so they're proven right has gone through the roof.
It is human nature to make more comments and analyse the things we see are negatives than positives.

Different player really. Ned gives far more at the contest but doesn't hit the scoreboard (directly). I'd pick Ned ahead of Petrenko every day of the week. That said, I'm on the fence about whether he is part of a premiership winning squad. We're developing an interesting mix at the moment. Ned will always be a workhorse, but he does level up a lot of 50/50 contests. Not sure yet.

Gollant has been on our list since 2019. And now just an AFL player.

The guy who we need to replace Tex should be on our list now. Sadly it is not Fog.

Agree, this is a genuine concern.

This is classic crows mentality. When you trade out your excess, you get bugger all back. If you want a fast, quality mid with 50 games under his belt, you have to be prepared to give something up.

Ah come on, at least Petrenko kicked goals :)

I didn't say that you needed to trade out the depth players - just that you trade from areas where you have depth. We can trade out the HBF from our first team, getting a decent return in the process, if we have decent talent backing them up in the SANFL.

If you have 3 players vying for one position on the ground, you can probably trade away the best of them (getting a good return), knowing that you have 2 more ready to step up. If you only have the 1 player, with no backups, then trading them away just creates a vacancy which you then need to fill from an external source.

Do you reckon you'd get a quality up and coming mid for a half back flanker?

Good:

Tex has really blossomed into an evergreen forward at this point. Has barely lost a step and really, could easily go on in 2023 at this point.

Himmelberg is winning me back. He's owning that tall deep forward role at the moment and having another reliable >50m shot in the side is also rather handy. I'm curious to see what he makes of this start.

Keays is building a monster season at this point and has really blossomed into our best ball winning mid. Would just like him to put away the miracle goal shot.

Laird was also fantastic. Class goal and pulled a solid two way performance in the midfield.

I really liked Berry game. Took him a bit to adjust offensively, but he did well when he was involved. That said, it's rather nice to have another player who can hit monster numbers on the defensive side of things, seeing Adelaide lacks the quality to outgun midfields at this point.

Cook was class.

Smith was excellent with his run and carry.

McAdam did enough to keep himself in the side and then some. Very promising.

I really liked Jones game. Some rough moments, skill wise, but was tough as nails defensively and did a good job when Bolton swung forward.

Probably the most complete performance we've put in since 2018--2019. We were challenged by Richmond repeatly, but absorbed it and hurt them when we had momentum.

Meh:

Frampton: Look, I'm happy he bounced back from a horror start, but I'm wholly unconvinced about his long term potential as a KPD after that performance.

Bad:

McHenry had a good first quarter, but was a non-entity afterwards.

You'd think we'd learn something from club history. Chris Groom, who's that?

That's what draft picks are for. With Ogilvie's poor record with high end picks (except for Rachele) we should use it to go after an elite mid such as Tom Green or Dunkley. Berg has finally shown something and with Walker retiring probably end of 2023 I wouldnt be trading our next best KPF.

Berg has been given games and he's showing improvement. He looks a natural forward.

Billy's problem is that he is not a natural defender. He will need to learn how to use his body in the contest, spoil and be clean by hand and foot. He's a long way behind Butts. If we've made the call that he is a KPD then we back him in but he needs to show improvement. He could be a dominant player given his skill set.

That player is currently on our list, and is named Riley Thilthorpe.

The forward line will be his in time.
