Review Good/Bad vs Geelong

Both haven't been given the opportunity in the first 2 games and it's really Pedlar's 2nd preseason.
That’s the whole point. We aren’t playing them in the centre. The reasoning has been because they haven’t got the tank. It’s the start of the season where they both should be fully fit and not ‘burnt out’.

Not sure that's the reason. Rachele would have a better tank this year compared to last year and still haven't got the opportunity unlike last year. Pedlar is understandably given his injury history.

So it's not the tank it's the opportunity. Good to see we agree

I expect Rachele will still get the occasional midfield look this year. I think that spot last midfield rotation spot has mostly been taken by Rankine who didn't really play midfield at all last year and has come into the rotation. If Berry gets dropped this week and it's not for a mid we might see more Rachele/Pedlar. Seems like a better mix than having someone who is best suited to playing most/all CBAs but plays at half-forward a lot of the time instead.

CBAs so far across two games (excluding rucks) are:
Dawson - 40
Crouch - 36
Laird - 31
Berry - 12
Rankine - 10
Soligo - 8 (only played part of round 1)
Rachele - 2
Pedlar - 1

So pretty clear Dawson/Crouch/Laird top three with Berry, Rankine and Soligo the next up.

There's no way Rachele could play a full season in the midfield in his 2nd year, he played there for 7 weeks at the start of last year and then was moved back to the forward line were he clearly struggle early to run out games so it isn't surprising he was was refreshed and play in the midfield again later in the season. Now had you said it's opportunity this year then I would agree.

I probably came close to having some apricot slicer complain about me because I was pretty vocal about the incompetence on display.

One of the better things about the A-League, you can let rip, because most other people are too.

At Adelaide Oval it is expected that you sit quietly and occasionally applaud the boys.

The bottom 3 should be used far more as inside midfielders.

So when do we start discussing Keays form? Besides a good first half against Gold Coast he has sucked
Not just yet, as there are players who have has 2x poor games. Murphy can go 1st.

Last night Keays worst part was when he lined up on Dempsey on a wing who was responsible for 2 quick goals in the 3rd, which basically changed the momentum of the game in the Cats favour. I called his poor positioning for the 1st goal at the time to my mate & sure enough 10 seconds later... goal.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

JASON PHELAN’S VOTES

3 Stewart (Geel)

2 Crouch (Adel)

1 Hawkins (Geel)
Clearly looked at stats rather than watching the game as both Dawson & Laird were poor.

Crouch was easily our best midfielder.

It's the fittest our list has been for many years. They had a very strong summer.
Bruhn, Guthrie and Atkins are not stars but they are handy players to have come back into the team. This is the depth we have at the moment.

I would also say the inside knowledge Geelong received from Rahilly was invaluable. It looked as though every defender knew your forwards strength & weaknesses.
" Hope I'm allowed to comment ...."
Translation: "I wanna pretend that the Crows were better than you lot think they are, because the Cats are soooo good".

Winning condescension at its worst :rage: :poov1: . I am staggered Crows supporters responded positively to your post.

"Oh, we're so FIT! ... We have so much depth!! ... We knew everything about your forwards!!"

Take it back to your own Board where you'll be part of a self-congratulatory Mutual self-Admiration Society.
Go on, p1ss off.

Re-signing Nicks at this stage of the season is a mistake.
No one in the club is under any pressure to perform. No wonder we keep seeing such soft efforts.
The club values the wrong traits to be successful.
THIS! Well said :thumbsu: .

Rewards are supposed to come AFTER achievement, not before.

Nicks can put his feet up now if he wants, do stuff-all, and get a very handsome payout.
Players on multiple hundreds of thousands of $s/year no longer have to earn their spot in the side (especially if they are a Coach fave, or "leader").
In last week's presser Nicks said there were "a lot of positives" in the loss.
Burgess (player) said exacty the same thing last night, "lots of positives" :poov1:.

I can't think of any, at all.

Makes me wanna puke.

something we all agree with here.

How do we get some of these brains at our club? Hodge, Buckley, throw some money at them. I don't care if they stay in Melbourne and do it remotely. Someone who just says "Matthew. Why the **** are you doing that?"

Sorry, should have clarified…

Spoke with another surgeon (not the one who performed the procedure), who made the comment based on the devices ordered/used for the procedure. Also just an educated comment based on the type of procedure and Thilly’s size. Harder for big men to come back from these. Particularly those who run and jump a lot.

Garbage

I feel sick watching this swans vs bombers game.

Both teams cutting the ball outside and inside with pace to slice up each others defence.

Our game plan is slow long bomb down the line.

Coaching is shite.
Yep, basically the majority of the teams are playing a quick ball movement game. We’ve reverted to kick pass and then bomb long down the line. It’s so dumb. Was walking across the bridge last night and some old fella next to me brings up this shit game plan. If we can all see it, how come those experts at the club can’t?

I think youre wrong. He's just another victim of the shithouse adelaide development pathway.
Or a poor head recruiter who everyone lauds but is actually bloody useless. Ogilvie is just another example of employing an incompetent "good bloke". Its the adelaide way, they exist to give incompetent people something to do (our board) or employ incompetents who rarely answer for their performance. Being employed at the afc is like working for the government. You have to be obscenely incompetent to get fired.

In that video Hombsche effectively says the main takeaway in the review was player skill errors first take, double grabbing and that we are confident we are a good team, nothing to change for Freo :/. Are they too close to see it?

Bad:
  • How many times the ball would go over the back of a pack and Geelong would swarm with numbers. FFS - first job for the big guys is to make sure the ball doesn't go over the back.
  • Walker, Rachele, Rankine were all so far off with their skill level, but were still playing like they were in top form - learn when to just do the basics and contribute. And I saw Walker go for a pack mark with one hand - not a good sign.
  • Crouch, Laird, Berry doesn't work. We need more of Pedlar, Rachele and Soligo in the middle.
  • Smith was horrid for two games in a row. I'm a fan of Smith, but he needs a run in the 2's after that performance following on from Gold Coast.
  • All of our big guys, all over the ground, FFS, harden up and take some marks.
  • Finally hitting the front by 1 point in the 3rd quarter after dominating much of the last quarter and a half and then somehow being 4 goals down again in no time. We don't have a winners mentality and have fallen in to a habit of falling behind and trying to come back instead of taking control of a game and dictating the result.

Good:
  • It's only Round 2.
  • Crouch has been very good. Must get that midfield balance right though.
