Wow....ok....so no issue at all with 2 x 1st round selections showing NOTHING in their second season....and i mean NOTHING.
No wonder we won the spoon....should persist with them and enjoy amother 20 odd years of mediocrity no doubt. Good call.
We won the spoon*.
* Season affected by COVID-19 with the Crows playing the most games after a short break and Port Power playing the least.

You're better than that. Give us an opinion for once not just a simple retort.

Explain how a 2nd year player getting 3 touches in a game is acceptable. There is a reason he isnt in the middle, he is far too slight and still cant get near it no matter where you put him. He had games in the middle, no good, he had a game down back no good, up forward also seems no good and he isn't even tackling.

I am not in the delist Jones camp. I want to see him succeed. I try desperately to see positives in his games but it there is barely a moment a game.

The last 3 weeks he's shown plenty.

Tonight he stays forward and we have about 20% of time in forward half..... And he's not a forward !!! Couple that with the woeful delivery and the pressure applied by his opponents and it doesn't bode well.

He had a very poor night, but the rest of his last month has been fine.

Either way they look MILES off AFL standard.
Terrible 1st round picks....shockingly bad.
Both have only been 2 years in the system and are slightly built need some time for them to balk up. Jones played some good game last season and also this season but wasn't consistent and McHenry only debut this year.

The adjudication of HTB/incorrect disposal is killing the game as a spectacle and professional sport. Imagine trying to explain it to a foreigner right now.

It's like that by design. "Play on, ball kept moving"/"Play on, made an attempt" from the umpires crept in after Sydney/West Coast won their flags in the mid 2000s and Demetriou demanded a "more attractive" style i.e. more ball movement and less zone defence. Essentially, as long as the ball kept moving and it wasn't a blatant rugby-style throw, they called play on.

In my opinion, this is what set things in motion mid-2000s for the mess we have today, paired with the AFL's $10 million inquiry in to why Victorian teams were so sh*t (on the back of 3 Grand Finals in a row without a Victorian team) that brought the AFL's focus back to Victoria.

Which begs the question, why aren't Jones and Shoenberg being given time in the middle?

How can there not be one occasion in a game when your 2 upcoming mids don't get any time in there?
It is absolutely baffling.

Well... it's not baffling. Despite some positive selection moves we've made them largely under sufferance and USUALLY we'd much rather pick our most senior players in their preferred roles all the time no matter how they play. Then the kids can get a few games in peripheral roles if they're lucky and we have lots of injuries.

Shown plenty is very generous for someone averaging 8.1 touches this season.

Below average in all statistics this year.

He is a moment player who has one maybe two moments a game where you think he might just be a player but never once has built on it.

He stays forward because he has failed everywhere else so far.

He’s a 2nd year mid for fu** sakes who has played half forward the last month. It’s not like he hasn’t shown glimpses. The last game he played mostly mid against the Bulldogs he was our leading clearance winner. Anyone writing off a player this early are just waiting to be proven wrong in a couple of years time, just like Berg has done to his critics.

why isn’t he getting more time in the middle?

I wonder how some of our young guys (Jones, McHenry, Fogarty) are handling things?

None of them did much this season which is no biggie - they're kids in a team that has been diabolically bad at times - but I wonder how resilient they are?

Would their confidence have taken a hit? Or do they understand that like Himmelberg sometimes it just takes a while.

I liked what Fog did in the 2nd half, showed there was more than just a bit of video in him

How was the throw by Dustin Martin on the wing.....8 replays in slow motion and all the commentators can say is "sly quick give" by Martin there.

Not 1 commentator would say the obvious.

It was a bloody throw. Sums up the VFL to a tee !!!

sh*t competition run by a bank of stuck up Victorian morons.
Watch the replay again and watch his left arm. Pay attention to his left arm.

Good: Pick 1, Himmelberg continues to grow and compete, ROB our BOG today whilst Sauce announced his retirement, justifying that decision, and Fogarty working himself back into the game.
Bad: Walker got the record but really didn't impact the game in any other aspect and has to be a serious question mark on his career at the AFC with reduced list sizes next year.
Ugly: Is Jones OK? As in, is he adjusting to life in SA properly? He looks both mentally and physically cooked, and while all our other underdone players came good 3 weeks ago he has continued to impact less and less and just looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. I'm worried about him.

Worse than this....his bad moments have WAY out weighted his good moments.
Been responsible for several slipped tackles, free kicks against and ineffective contests which have cost the team dearly.
Not sure what people see in him at all. Other than blind hope because he's a top 10 pick 2 years ago...so therfore will become an elite player if we persist.
