Had to watch the reply. No way were we going to win at Mars. But what a game. High pressure throughout the full game. For me we had a list of players that played well but the ones I particularly looked at were

Cook - I just think this lad is going to be something special as he develops. We need to keep him in the side. None of this dropping him to the twos if he has a bad game.
Rashele - Say no more this lad is special
Gollant - didnt do a lot tonight but he has the signs of being a great overhead mark and has shown us he can kick goals
Jones & Ned - desire to get the ball is second to none. Niether may develop into elite players but both will be great contributors.
Berry - I like his attack on the ball and I think we must persevere with him.
Butts - Really liked his game tonight.
Hately - didnt get a lot of the ball and was always under pressure but I think he showed us something tonight.

These are all young players and they still have the potential for significant improvement. Really positive about what I saw tonight.

Yes Tex, Laird, Doedee, Keays, Rob & Smith all had good games and they are our main stays but after tonight is it possible to add Frampton to that list. Lets see if he can be more consistent.

One of the best things for me tonight was to see us win two in a row. Most of us have made the comment that we have shown the ability to win games but we havent shown any consistency. After winning 3 of our last 4 games and the one we lost was by a couple of points, is this the beginning of our boys growing up and showing a consistent/dependable performance. I am sure Burgess has helped us with this as well. Fingers crossed. Could we make it 3 in a row given we have GWS at home.

Listening to the commentary you hear more positive comments about the Crows. Whether it be from Fox Footy and even Footy Classified (I dont get much else up here) its not all doom and gloom.

My bitch tonight is about the umpiring. I dont usually comment on the umpiring but I just saw so many inconsistencies, One in the last quarter where a dogs player clearly dropped the ball but no free kick and a goal was scored. But I found holding the ball appeared to go the Dogs way most of the night. Don't mind mistakes but dislike inconsistencies.

Just read through the WB board, was encouraged to see that a lot of them are giving a fair bit of credit our way.

TBH I'll take it considering we're the 2 clubs are at. Still think their club has the talent, but really starting to believe that our club has a double dose of heart!
Never say die attitude with this young team, Really have had some stirring wins, Showed glimpses Last year beating Geelong and then eventual premier Melbourne after trailing by over 3 goals with just minutes to go, This year's showdown steal, repelling Richmond after they hit the front and looked like running over the top, This one was the best considering we were trailing away from home against the breeze with the umpires trying their hardest to get the dogs over the line. Big steps taken in the last month. Anything is possible.

The other poor non decision was in the last qtr, Doedee coming out at CHB takes the ball and the ball is spilled out in the tackle.
The Bont then proceeds to absolutely dump him, well after the ball has gone, no free.
Lead straight to a goal for them I believe.

Re: the wind/breeze. I wasn't there but I know the breeze was, and not because:
--- the aforementioned players (McHenry/ Rachele's poster etc) had shots that were clearly blown across by it
--- most of the play was on the one side of the ground that it was blowing to, or
--- the Ch7 commentators talked about it the whole game. :sneaky:

I know because the big man, Tex, said straight after the game that he aimed his match-sealing kick at the left-hand goal post and the breeze did the rest.

croweater 41, believe Tex. :smilev1:

Wondering if croweater 41 didn't notice the wind, because he was three sheets to it?

I'll show myself out.
In the stand was not a breath of wind would have paid good money for it just to cool down. On the ground and the open end to the right of screen on tv must have been different but to me no wind. Asked the few I was sitting with and all in agreement no wind not out in the middle must have been different.

Might be nit picking but Crouch kicking it out on the full in the dying seconds of the game, really pissed me off something fierce. How do you fu** up a regulation kick down the line?
Yeah this was a real shocker from a senior player. They got a goal from this. Lucky they didn't get a quick clearance afterwards.

Shades of Scott Thompson's kick in last minute of the Crows v Hawks EF in 2007 setting up Buddy's goal

He seems to have somehow come up with some way to do kicks that hook badly left to right at the end of their flight.
There was one terrible one he did against the tigers as well. Regulation long ball down to half forward and it started off online but then swung late to land in a really bad spot for us and great for Richmond to allow a intercept and good rebound.

Berry had some big disposals late in the game.

He also has some good core strength. Berry was tackled twice but kept his feet on both occasions. It is hard to pay a HTB against a player still on his feet.

And he's prepared to hold onto the ball, not just dump it straight away. Didn't play big minutes, but he's giving us what Sloane wasn't able to. I'd be happy to move past Crouch as well, but he was a bit better and is currently at the low end of minutes as well. So happy to see how this builds.

Good:
Frampton "finding himself" in the backline, exactly the type of player those smelly, horrible, pond water drinking lot down the road love getting rid of (+ Howard and Lienert). Why? Madness.
The form of Doedee, Butts and Jones has really made us look like a much better side
Lachie Murphys ball use forward of centre
Ned McHenry just starting to show more
We dont have many passengers in our wins at the moment.

Bad:
The umpiring- EVERY. LITTLE. THING was paid to the bulldogs, their midfield is the most protected species in the AFL, constant dropping the ball not paid, throws, holding after disposal, running through the protected area and the crowd went nuts when they got 1 free kick paid against them.

Ugly:
Dwayne Russell "its like a home game for Matt Crouch"- Just stop.
3 games in a row we have scored 8 goals at MARS
We had to absolutely dominate to get a 1 point win, nightmare ground. We have Geelong in Geelong this year, should be fun watching experiencing the same level of frustration.
At least we dont have to play finals at these places, not that we will this year I feel.

The other poor non decision was Doedee coming out at CHB takes the ball and the ball is spilled out in the tackle.
The Bont proceeds to absolutely dump him, well after the ball has gone, no free.
There were quite a few really poor decisions. Another was the failure to award a 50 for blatant encroachment into the protected area with about 5 mins left to go after we had taken a mark. Cannot remember the players. Should have been a shot 10-15m out.

I also can’t fathom why Gollant’s marking attempt in the 3rd Q was unrealistic.

The only things they'll highlight from our game will be the Laird collision - should he get weeks? - and the 2 seconds lost at the end by the crooked bounce. Did it cost the Bulldogs the game? Vic reporters: Impossible to know... but definitely yes

Have a look at the write up on AFL.com.au …

It’s amazing. I wondered if I’d clicked on the right article !!!

However the trees are blowing on the tv? And the commentators are talking about a breeze.
You weren’t inside were you?
I was sitting on the eastern side of the ground. There wasn't so much as whisper of wind there and nothing noticeable walking to and from the stadium. I was a little baffled by the radio commentary talking about wind. You could see the trees to the south west moving a bit but not much and not all the time.

I was also baffled by both teams permanently camping on the western wing. If there was more wind over that side, the stand there didn't seem to be providing any protection.

Great win yesterday in a game we weren't expected to at a type of place we never win.

Didn't really have a "bad" player on the field, even the low posession getters like Gollant, Berg and Lord Rachele all had some important moments during the game.

Our forwardline is humming, if very inaccurate yesterday. Midfield looks a bit more dynamic and Berry is finding his way, defence had a very good day with Butts brilliant, Doedee back to his best and Jones/Frampton having career days.

Rachele's and McHenry's set shot in the last quarter directly in front of goal swung big to the right.
All they needed to do was aim for just left of the left post in the final quarter. They all (except Tex) started it at the middle of the sticks and watched it sail for a point.

Yeah that’s interesting, watching the replay it certainly looked like it was affecting most kicks for goals.

Nicks is the man for this club.

Nicks has built an amazing off field team. I honestly thought we were going to need another year before we see the effects of Burgess. While our goal kicking was pretty average, our decision making and skills have improved so much since Rd 1.

Is it too hopeful to think finals are on the cards this year?

He could have kicked it back to whoever passed it to him to kill some more time.. I think it was smith? But he wanted to kick it down the line to a contest.
