Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

If I was Mark McKenzie (sounds like a good thread) my game plan would be:

Getting Amon: Done! AWESOME!

I’m indifferent on Bruhn. For mine he has to play midfield with some time as a fwd but will he improve enough to compete with Oliver, Trac and Viney or Bont, McCrae, Dunkley and Libba? I have my doubts. If he doesn’t impact on our two initial draft picks then he is definitely worth a punt. I’d only go after him if we trade an established player for the needed trade pick value.

The National Draft: Depending on our draft position

If we have Pick 2(3) then:
Wardlaw: powder and speed: he has everything we need. Hammies are a worry but I’d take the risk based on how good he is and our need for such a player.
Sheezel: Class: he has everything every team would want

If we have pick 6(7) then:
McKenzie: inside & outside: does everything well. Creative by hand and hits targets by foot. Would wax well with Ward and CMac.

If not the above then I’d trade picks 6(7) (1644pts) and 24(27) (703pts) for picks ~ 12(13) (1212pts) & 13 (14) (1161pts) to a team that wants a specific player. (This is a concept and so I’m not sure which team or how we get this done)

Pick 12(13): Jefferson, Hustwaite, Hollands, Hewitt, George, Gibney or a slider.
Pick 13(14): Hustwaite, Hollands, Hewitt, George, Hotton

Players I’m not sold at pick 6 (7):
Clark: a bit small, not quite as clean as McKenzie … still good.. I could be talked into taking him.
Phillipou: doesn’t link up as well as McKenzie. Does a lot right, marks well.
Busslinger: not what we need

Players that are good but for me are a “no thanks” at pick 6(7):
Tsatas: avoids contact situations
Cadman: Not tall enough or agile enough to dominate an AFL defender
Humphrey: disposal by foot is inconsistent

If Gunna leaves then I’d rookie list Fergus Green. Even if Gunston stays I’d still consider it.
I’d love it if Esava Ratugolia could be brought in as a Mr Fix-It. I’d throw good money at him for the move. He would be our 2nd best pack-marking fwd, looks good down back, and is more than handy in the ruck. He would protect Ramsden if Reeves and Lynch go down again. Clearly this would depend on our getting the currency for a trade.

I’d do whatever it takes to keep Breust. He has clearly benefitted Moore (it is uncanny how similar their moves are) and he will help Butler or Brockman (if he stays) become quality forwards.
If Brockman leaves we need to find a new creative small fwd. For Shits and Giggles I’ll say we try get Munkara at pick 39 (before * get to match)

Overall: If we cannot get the rolled-gold in Wardlaw or Sheezel, and if McKenzie is gone or there is a hidden issues, I’d fatten out our young talent pool and wait for next year to focus on a player type

Lot's of talk around Gresham and Parish to the Hawks, whom both will be free agents come end of 2023.

I say we wait for them and use next season as another stepping stone with this young group and we really focus on nailing this draft with pick 2 and Bruhn.
We can win another 3 to 4 games more than we did this season, if so then I feel players like Gresham and Parish would love to jump on board as the writing would be on the wall.

The whole league will see Hawthorn coming and what Sam has built in 2 years.

(And you dont have to get bent over by Dodoro)

If we go after Parish and Gresham before they come FA could be another Wingard moments.

Can’t imagine we’d have any interest trading for Gresham or Parish this year. And they’d be on a level above in difficulty compared to getting a guy like Amon. If we are paying amon 650k how much would Gresham cost to move? Probably more than is sensible for a list rebuild.

Hate the link to Parish, undersized midfielder who accumulates and does nothing with the ball. Remind you of anyone?

Go down the path of getting pick #2, amon & bruhn next year target Gresham.

All of a sudden our midfield going forward you've got Newcombe, Ward, Tsatas, Gresham, Mcdonald & Butler to build around.

I think Gresham. He can play small forward as well as mid. I would love Parish as well but I think we could well be on the way under our own steam with the likes of Tsatas, Bruhn (hopefully) and one of the Port boys.

All that said, if we get and I stress if we get, the likes of Duursma who can play the Gresham role, who knows, the pendulum could swing the Parish way.

The List will be infinitely better, we will be building, and that will be the joy.

Personally don’t worry about the Parish methodology, he is an accumulator, we need an accumulator.

Before the TOM supporters start, remember Parish is four years younger, be there when we next challenge AND be capable as TOM has been. The midfield mix will be constructed towards the next flag tilt. Newcombe, Ward, Mc Donald, Tsatas, Bruhn, Nash, Parish, another big mid courtesy of the 2023 First, with influence from Amon, Day, Duursma, (Bergman) CJ, Gresham, Impey, Wingard etc., etc.

We can get both. I want both.

Tops you're talking about Tsastas almost as a fact... this can only be interpreted as you're confident we will get Eagles pick 2?

Again if this is to happen, we give up a ton. It's either DGB, or a future first. Take your pick.
No chance they do a pick slide for loose change.

Yeah but Tsastas won't be there for us at pick 6 (7).

Very intriguing post by Tops.

24 hours hours ago our infamous ITK did say 'Bruhn to Hawks will happen, ignore anything else you hear or read'.

Interesting that this piece of news about a breakfast circulates a day later.
Young Tanner just taking the opportunity for a free dinner off the million dollar coach.

Maybe Dodo will be booted before the trade period starts? ;)

At this point, he's fused with the walls with the Hanger itself.

You'd need to burn the place down before ridding them of the Doro.

That being said, I'm always willing to donate plenty of tinder to begin that fire ...
