Don't know about throwing in DGB for a pick slide re the above post.
Only works to a degree if we get back their second (probably about 22 after all the compensation that is paid) and next years third, but it would guarantee us Tsatas or Sheezel or ??? And we keep our 2023 picks in tact.

The pickets are protruding when it comes to Denver though. I wish we could do this without involving him. Risk and reward.

Correct. A lot of impatience with DGB. It's going backwards to hand him back with pick 6 to get access to pick 2.
And the two best players in the draft will be gone.
And to think we could've easily got pick 2 by losing games.......
As I remember last year everyone laughed at Collingwood for trading out their first pick to GWS as they could have had both Daicos and the next best (Callaghan or anything after)

Come the end of the year the Pies are playing in prelim and the giants finished below us. This idea of losing games to finish lower to get a higher pick only creates a losing culture, it doesn't make you better long term getting pick 2 this year will mean missing out on pick 6 and losing a very promising key defender.

Selwood, Wines, Serong, Bailey Smith, Jack Macrae are just some of the players taken around pick 6,7,8

If the deal was for pick 1 and we were certainties to pick up Ashcroft then probably but even then losing to do it just sets you up for a cultural change that is hard to escape from

No doubt it’s what West Coast would ask for in order to let go of pick 2.

Whether we would pay that or not is truly up to how much the Footy department really think an elite talent mid is required, because that’s what I’m hearing we really want.
IMO acquiring one should be paramount to anything we do this offseason. How that happens is the million dollar question. Strapping Young Lad if this happens (getting pick 2) is your gut feel that DGB could be the sacrificial lamb?

Unbelievable- just take the best mid at pick 7… there are tonnes of options for us at that pick! Clark, Philippou, MacKenzie, Humphrey all look like being available and are great talents…

Why in the world do you trade a top 6 key defender that you’ve put two years of development (one of which was impacted by injury) into and could be on the cusp of exploding for a 4 pick upgrade?? Yes the top 3 in the draft look nice but there’s no guarantees with any of them…

We should know key position players take longer to develop - year 3 could be massive for Denver…

If our ability to predict potentially elite players at the age of 18 was worthy of such faith, we never would have selected Thorp, Dowler, and to a lesser extent O'Rourke, Hartung and Lovell.

The idea that a single player at Pick 2 (In reality 3) is SUCH an obviously better long term prospect for our club that it's worth parting with TWO players taken in the top 6 strikes me as a level of hopeful recklessness normally seen only by drunk stockbrokers at Crown Casino at 3 A.M.

I've decided I'm not on board with trading DGB to acquire pick 2 from West Coast.

It goes against my pre-season argument that list management makes more sense when you factor in 2 players over 1.

Does anybody remember the North poster saying he wouldn't give up Tarryn Thomas for Jack Scrimshaw and Dylan Moore?

Are we comfortable giving up Denver Grainger Barrass and (hypothetically) Bailey Humphrey for Elijah Tsatas?

Does one singular elite midfielder trump an elite interceptor and mid/fwd bull?

DBG Must stay. He'll be key cog for this team when challenging in September.

He can play tall, he can play on small, very similar to Ben Stratton, he gives Mitchell the versatility of playing on multiple size forwards.

Can't help but feel there will be a moment in September where DGB takes a huge match saving mark or a run down tackle that saves a certain goal for us in a big moment and will save the game for us.

We will all then be saying "gee how lucky we are to hive this guy in the brown and gold"

He 100% stays for mine.

Is the 'DGB + 6 for 2' scenario being reported anywhere or just a theory at this stage? Getting a lot of airtime round here.

The only thing I've seen possibly mooted is Brockman and that was by Ash Browne.
It’s all from here & if it’s been reported, it’s still from here.

Some posters are convinced that if you are from WA then you must surely want to go back there & play.

DGB has said he loves HFC & loves Melbourne, but that’s not enough for some posters as DGB is ‘just saying that’ because ‘ what else is he going to say’

Even though the comments weren’t prompted by anyone

It’s more about what will it take for Eagles to let Pick 2 go.

I keep seeing people making claims about how DGB is tracking fine and what not, but that’s besides the point. I wouldn’t want to lose him either.

But it’s about what the Eagles will ask for, and then how badly we want that top 2 pick.

This I agree with.
Eagles may ask after DGB & he might go

But

He isn’t initiating a move

*I know that you aren’t saying that SYL

It all comes down to filling a need for WCE.

They will know we wont give up DGB.....They have earmarked Player B & C as the trade period goes on.

Clarko gifted Sam Mitchell to Adam Simpson for a packet of Samboy chips.

Sam Mitchell helped them win a flag..........they struggled after he left.

They will want to repay the faith in some small way.

This trade will get done very late.....It wont be DGB.

Just look at the great winning culture Carlton built at their club by tanking multiple times!
That would build a great culture
Thank you for letting me play Devil's advocate.

I think it's only a BF theory but giving up DGB for pick 2 is lunacy and we shouldn't even be discussing it. Accumulate talent and let them grow together.

Draft picks can be fools gold, we know what we have in DGB.

They don't owe us anything. They're staring down the barrel of a long rebuild and they won't be handing out freebies because of an assistant coach we gave them 5 years ago.

DGB is also one of the highest quality individuals you'd want in that age group.

As we look around now and struggle to truly find our next captain, he's got all the qualities you'd want in spades.

These are all the uncontracted players heading into this trade period that would fit our age profile and positions in need.

These are the sort of players we should target and not stray off our list rebuild strategy in coughing up high draft capital.

These guys wouldn't put a big effect on our salary cap either, to go after some big fish in next years free agency market for guys like Gresham, Bailey Williams, Darcy Parish and Caleb Serong.

Rhylee West - 22 Mid/Fwd -
Jack Higgins - 23 Fwd
Sydney Stack - 22 Def/Mid
Jarrod Brander - 23 Mid/Fwd
Quinton Narkle - 24 Mid

Callum Brown - 24 Fwd
Tyler Brown - 22 Mid/Fwd
Will Seterfield - 24 Mid
Mitchell Cox - 25 Mid
Ben Ronke - 24 Fwd

All these guys have been in the system for a while but for whatever reason are not getting game time that perhaps would be at the hawks.

It's just a bunch of bigfooty Hawks in this thread pushing to get pick 2. I have very good mail to suggest that he is very invested in Hawthorn and keen to stay put.
