Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

It's just a bunch of bigfooty Hawks in this thread pushing to get pick 2. I have very good mail to suggest that he is very invested in Hawthorn and keen to stay put.
I don’t think anyones pushing it and more that it’s a “hypothetical thread”
If mail is saying DGB is happy at Hawthorn and keen to stay mark it down 6 months ago Sandra Sully.
The hypotheticals how to get pick 2 from WC?

If you can bank on that one singular elite midfielder being a star you'd take the one.

As an example Melbourne trading Pick 2 which turned into Josh Kelly for Pick 9 (Christian Salem) & a young prospect in Dom Tyson at the time.

Josh Kelly turned into a star in hindsight and the Giants won that deal.

Something we should've done a couple years ago funny enough when we drafted DGB, The Kangaroos at the time were looking to move down for a second round pick, We could've taken Logan McDonald at pick 2 instead we took DGB & Seamus Mitchell. I know which combo I'd prefer.

So if we rate view Tsatas as a potential superstar and see a significant drop in the quality of midfielders in the draft after him we should do whatever it takes to land Pick 2.

Unpopular opinion. The gap between Salem and Kelly isn't as wide as many think. One is a reliable, consistent rebounder with elite skills who received Norm Smith medal votes in a premiership side. The other is a great midfielder.
The issue here is the Dom Tyson part of that trade. Imagine a reality where he was Ed Langdon who they traded in later on. Would you prefer Salem and Langdon or Josh Kelly? Not as easy to answer considering recent output and what they all offer to their sides.

This is like sitting at a table in Crown casino ….. imagine if we sell the farm for Tsatas and then he gets taken by Norf!

Great to hear that DGB is invested in the Hawks 👍. If we can get pick 2 by keeping him and next years first that would be ideal but probably we don’t have enough to bet with!

If our ability to predict potentially elite players at the age of 18 was worthy of such faith, we never would have selected Thorp, Dowler, and to a lesser extent O'Rourke, Hartung and Lovell.

The idea that a single player at Pick 2 (In reality 3) is SUCH an obviously better long term prospect for our club that it's worth parting with TWO players taken in the top 6 strikes me as a level of hopeful recklessness normally seen only by drunk stockbrokers at Crown Casino at 3 A.M.

Agreed. Don’t think we’re in a position to go all in at this point in the rebuild.

Personally I feel Kelly will never reach us potential due to ending up at GWS. Injuries then being played on a wing certainly haven’t helped but GWS haven’t been able to get the absolute best out of their top liners.

They do wonders with the next rung down though.

Problem is you can never know if you are trading for a Kelly level player or not with the draft.

Hence why I’d rather keep pick 6 than pay what pick 2 would cost.

Not according to some I have spoken to.
That's the information i've heard too. Four elite talents with a bit of distance on the rest: Ashcroft, Tsatas, Sheezel and Wardlaw.

What we need more than anything is a damaging midfield / forward superstar. That top 10 player in the comp. If the club thinks we can get a player with that potential through a trade for pick 2, we look at it. But that won't happen without giving up something / someone valuable.

The only way I would consider trading DGB to Eagles would be as follows;
Eagles pick 2 + 1st round 2023 pick
Hawks DBG + pick 6 + 2022 and 2023 second round .

DGB is a future Dylan Grimes clone you don’t give him away cheaply

Isn't the 'damaging mid/fwd hybrid' meant to be Bailey Humphrey? And it appears that he's someone who is a reasonable possibility of being available at our pick?

Just a hypothetical here but if what everyone says is true and that pick 6 won’t get us an elite talent and the rest of the first round is pretty even then we might as well try and split our pick into multiple later first round picks. Get two top-end youngsters in the second tier rather than one.

Or trade for a player and a later first rounder (Henry + 13 for example)

Yeah wasn't sure on the credibility. But there have been media rumours about Long wanting to leave.
They’re the same account that said Breust had “officially requested a trade” a couple of weeks ago.

There’s a top 3 seen as the absolute cream, then a top 5/6 including those top 3 who are seen to be the standouts of the draft.

I wouldn’t be splitting our pick 6.

As good as Grimes is, a third tall defender isn't going to make or break our list. We actually have a few options with this type of player on our list anyhow.

It's a future May or Weitering clone I wouldn't be giving up. Not sure DGB will become that.

We desperately need a match winning mid with speed and X-factor that hits the scoreboard. I hope we're trying to get pick two for Tsastas or Sheezel.

Only the club is really in a position to say what would be worth giving up for a chance at that. If DGB isn't viewed internally as a key defender in the making, so be it.

Pick 6 and DGB
for
Pick 2 and 26

Hypothetically, that seems the mark imo.

This is where I've been on acquiring pick 2 for a while now. It's McKenzie's job to be leaving no stone unturned and these are the types of moves where list manager make their money. Definitely look at what it would take to get pick 2 but there also has to be point where you walk away. FWIW I actually want Sheezel over Tstas but I'd be stoked with either because the reality is we need both.

Curiously asking what would everyone be prepared to offer for pick 2?*

*I'm talking your final offer

With how bad I’ve read his kicking is alongside what little I’ve seen in highlights. I’m not sure he’d be damaging to the opposition as much as his own team
