Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

Haynes grew up 30 mins down the road from Waverley at Somerville. Convincing him to come while we're in a full scale build would probably be the hard part. Like anyone he likely wants to play finals and push for a premiership. MM would have to try and sell to him that he has a role. Also at the end of the day with them already losing Taranto and with Hopper to be next GWS is at the same point we are so there's that.

I just don’t think it’s something you can do within a few hours, and be done on the proviso the Hopper deal gets shelved, which lets be honest is not going to be given up on until the deadline, and most likely will get done anyway. (Soldo has already done his medical at GWS).

Haynes has been there more than a decade , probably got a Sydney Mrs and happily living in his own house with a guaranteed 2 years and $1.8m to run in his contract….maybe he values being a one club player like a lot of players. Just seems way too much to get over the line as a last minute change of direction… I think people are getting seduced by the GC salary dump attaching pick ****ing 7 and expecting other clubs to do the same.

Why would GWS cough up a first rounder to get rid of Haynes and keep Hopper for one year, when they could get get rid of Hopper who wants to leave and bring in more first rounders.

I think more likely the salary dump is you get the player at a discount, a token pick under market value.

Plan C does not have any hope. I agree. We are too late to the opportunity.

I did allude to this in another post. GWS have always been renowned to palm off their players on the cheap but it's worth noting that they've never had the new rules around a straight up salary dump to utilise before. I'd love to know how tight their salary cap is.

Don't read the part about Tom Mitchell.

I think it's fine to read the bit about Mitchell.

Hawks accepting 41 and 51 to relieve cap space?

Honestly, happy to keep him if the usual chicken-shit offers are coming in

It's a pretty dumb piece though, why would we care if pick 48 and 50 are equivalent to Pick 28. We're not matching any bids.

Also, why would we need cap space.

What if the Giants agreed to trade Whitfield but they only offer their future first round pick? Would you do that deal?
Yes, of course we would, but why would they offer a future 1st round pick?

Oh yeah...

But I reckon your 'flaming anger' GIF should have been a 'hysterical laughter' one ;)

I'm angry at the stupidity of these people, suggesting we need cap space, or that we need pick 48 and 51 in a draft that's not going to go long passed 50 picks.

Can't believe there's not more excitement from the media and Collingwood fans around what Tom Mitchell will do for them.

Mitchell could win a Brownlow next year. McRae will know exactly how to use him to his full potential, and he'll just be a clearance machine passing out to guys with better disposal and pace, which he can't do at Hawthorn.

But..but...Sam Mitchell...pick 80!

The Hawks will take anything!

The two moves I think we should be trying to get across the line would be:
1: straight up pick slide for Titch. 24 and Titch for Pies 16
2: Realistic salary dump from GWS. Take on Haynes contract for a pick in the teens, preferably 12 or 15 (if that’s what they’ve got) with a token late pick back their way

I’d also be seeing what we can pry out of Brisbane for Gunston.

End up with picks 6, one of 12/15/18/19 and 16 plus Amon, Meek and possibly an opportunity starved youngster from the Bears.

All of that seems pretty achievable to me. Bet we get none of it done!

Can't stress enough this is the sort of aggression I like to see from MM and co for this year and next year drafts.
