If the AFL is actually scripting and media managing this whole thing (WWF style) then we've been painted as the downtrodden, unconfident side character that looks like he can't do anything right.

Then just as the movie hits a crescendo BOOOM! King move from left field.

Side character gets a cheeky grin from the main character that says "wow, didn't know you had that in ya!"

Can't wait.

WWE style we were sweet with GWS about to win the match until Freo did a run in from the dressing rooms.

This. It's that simple.
JOM really only has to choices, stay at the Hawks or leave for another club. That club has to offer the right compensation, otherwise he's staying. He will understand that we will try and do right by him, but we aren't selling for unders for a contracted club leader. If Freo lowlands us, we just tell him straight we won't be dealing with them and it's either GWS or he stays. Might get Freo to up their offer, but I'm not fussed if we miss on this deal because of lowball offers.

More importantly, get Cooper Stephens in front of the Kennedy statue with his polo ASAP.

Where is all that Freo goodwill from the Hill trade?
I'm sure they're very keen to repay the favour. Freo have been waiting for this moment for years, they can FINALLY repay us. I'm sure they're frantically negotiating with other clubs to throw in an extra pick or two that we haven't asked for

Remember when everyone was mad MM wasn't doing anything?

Welcome to the trade deadline boys and girls, a.k.a. Mark Mackenzie' Magic Minute of Machievellian Matchmaking.

Hold up, he still needs to get the deals done first lol

It should be an easy sell for MM to Stephens if he works on the fear / reality that Cooper is behind Bowes, Parfitt, O'Conner, Holmes and maybe Clark for one spot on the bench at the Cats while he would start on-field alongside Newcombe in the center at the Hawks. It does not matter if it is true, as long as Cooper believes it.
And then flash some cash (that the Cats don't have) in front of his face.

No land deals or private entrances to Bells Beach we need to compete against?
