Will we break even on a t.mitchell trade?

Hawks gave up pick 14 & 52

We got a Brownlow, 2x AA and 3 B&F out of a pick 14.

We broke even a long time ago.

I'd be shattered to see Gunner walk for nix.
I don’t think he’d walk for nix. He’d look after us.

Lions absolutely makes sense for him and them, and with McStay leaving as a FA they’d want to trade to protect compo, but we’d have to pay some salary to up the pick.

Our best option may be Mitchell and 24 (our 2nd) to Richmond for 10. Maybe a shuffle of later picks as well.
Even then, we may have to pay part of his salary.
Would take that in a heartbeat

Get another 2nd in as well through a salary dump ala Will Brodie (Future 2nd Involved)

I wouldn't hold out on us doing well on that. Unfortunately he's a UFA. As I've said, hold onto him.

Those are cute individual accolades.

How many finals did WE win?
There’s plenty of posters here that are open to Tom being traded out, but your over the top derision of him and what he’s done with us is a bit much, so give it a break.

Would we be happy with a future second if we pay some salary?

**** me you have a vendetta against mitch. Those accolades make him worth it the rest of the team werent good enough to match him. We lost a 4 time premiership coach in that time you are not winning many finals during that period

I asked whether we will break even if we trade T.Mitchell.

Folks want to discuss about the awards from 5 years ago, that's cool.

But that's not going to help us come trade week.

People need to drop the emotions and get real.

Let's try again..

We gave up pick 14, without having to assist with salary, what is a realistic return?

What we gave up for him he’s absolutely irrelevant.

This “break even” stuff you’re running with is rubbish.

What are you talking about? Clarko left this time last year.

Is it irrelavant though?

Pick 14, and since then he has won a brownlow, 3 PCMs and 2 AA.

It's obvious he has been a better player at Hawthorn, than at the Swans.

I agree with you a future 2nd will get the job done, but we will still have to chip in with salary assistance.

So when you weigh it all up, are we getting value for buck?

Rubbish - once a player is out they are out. They won't say to the club they are going to give up a high draft pick to look after my old club.
Wasn't Franklin going to look after us?

Can you really see Jack walking out on his family and moving interstate (after wanting out of Adelaide as soon as he could to move back to Melbourne) a few months after the death of his father?

He's also 5 years older. That alone makes it irrelevant.

We need Jack, give him 2 years.

His mentoring of our tall key position players is invaluable.

I agree. Once a player wants out, they want it quick and painless. As a UFA, you simply walk. It's a business. He'd do the same.

If Tom's been a bust for effectively pick 16, we'll my mind wonders how you'd view the O'Meara and Wingard trades.

None, though that's hardly Mitchell's fault given he was clearly our best player. The gameplan, list management and a raft of average players we were persisting with are the reason we didn't win. To blame our best player is absolutely laughable.

Currently out of the 3, Wingard has the best draft currency. He is a Top 15 pick, no problem.

Would I trade Wingard? I prefer not to. I think Hawks need him at the club to mentor the small fwds coming in.

It comes down to T.Mitchell & JO'M, who stays?

JO'M, but I have him pencilled in for 2023 trade bait to WA.

Isn't that what was reported with Rankin? Agreed to with Crows but no play of the pre season draft to get deal done with GC

Our strategy as outlined by McCartney on Fox footy at the closing of last years draft period is “to take 10-12 picks inside 30 over the next 2-3 drafts”.

We took three last year, and we will be trying to take at least that many again this year.

We currently have 6 picks inside the top 30 over the next 3 seasons. So it’s a matter of finding an additional 4 to 6 picks in the first two rounds in the 2022, 2023 and 2024 drafts.

It’s a good plan to bunch our young players up to come through and challenge together, but McCartney will likely have to rob a team or two blind to action that plan.

My realistic plan would be -

1) Trade Titch for a second rounder to a mid hungry team in the premiership window. In return we get say pick 30.

2022 Draft haul - 7, 25, 30

2) In 2023, trade our 2024 first round pick for another mid to late first in the 2023 draft (pick 10 to 14 range). Picks would likely have to go back/forth to get it to work but in short it’s gambling that we are finals bound in 2024.

2023 Draft haul - 9, 12, 27

This is contingent on getting Amon and another free hit or two in 2023 (either a key forward or speedy forward would be 👌)
