Autopsy Hawks vs The Pusscats

Phil! Happy new season.

That was a frightening display. Some of the new set-ups are staggering. The flexibility and belief he has in that team right now.

Must say I enjoyed beating the Cats by over 10 goals by playing two quarters.

To you as well Grizz. Should be another big season ahead for us. What's scary about this group is that the leadership group ran most of the meetings this week. Clarko had minimal input until gameday.

Make no mistake this team has a bit of the 1988 prick in them.

Geelong and Sydney are about as good as each other is what I've taken out of this game.
I don't want to be too cocky because everyone can have a shocker, but I think today showed that what ever we were worried about before the bounce in the GF well that was just nerves. I think we were always going to thrash Sydney , I don't think they walked in the same street as Hawthorn 2014. I think Geelong have a rebuild in store. And we still look like we've moved into another space when it comes to football. I believe it comes from the top , from the recruiting officers from the president from the CEO from the past heroes who work for the club from every worker in the place the boot studders the runners the trainers the coaches , Hawthorn recruit not only footballers with character they recruit people into the business side that are leaders and at the start great followers and learners that only get better , being that precise on the ground comes from inside a great operation , its never just the players , its who the players are and who the people who lead them and administrate and work for them are.

Hawthorn except for a short hiccup in the 90's, are a special place and club, not just on the oval.

Its the calibre of all the people who make teams successful. That is why I think our club leads the way into new eras of what's expected.

Now I don't dare to predict who will win the flag , and we may not keep the standard all the time , but we have a better chance than most and we will be there about's somewhere, and totally capable of doing the threepeat. GO HAWKS. Keep up the standard and the future looks after itself.

So happy to see us have a good ruck division. Ceglar was excellent. His ruck work looked good a getting the ball straight into the hands of the inside mid looked good and will only get better. His marking around the ground a delight and his open field tackle excellent! McEvoy also did ok with ruck work.

I reckon they put Frawley in positions to see how he would go, especially in that last quarter. He has got some work to do on decision making but his kicking wasn't as bad as I was lead to believe. He and Lake will only get better as a combo, scary really.

Did anyone think Lewis would turn into the player he has? He is a machine, just doesn't stop presenting, has perfect disposal and even helps out for a few ruck taps every game. He could easily end up with a brownlow to go with his 4th brownlow by years end.

As a founding member of the original Lewis mafia, I'm proud to say I knew he would.

All jokes aside though, and yes I'm biased, I'm bloody proud of the bloke. Captain in waiting for mine.

Yeah, I heard Nathan Burke and someone else on 3LO in the post-match saying how different the hawks were running it this year. They were both in awe of Clarko. Said Clarko basically spent the pre-season building relationships, having coffees with players. Not only built the spirit, shared the vision, but greatly empowered his assistants and the players too.

Agreed. I think he will take over from Hodgey at the end of the year and lead us on.

Good to see Breust try for the goal kicking record again. Five on the trot after two behinds.

I thought he was great. Really took the game on. Some players take ages to warm up into their roles at new clubs.

Hate to say it, but it's no contest between him and Schoenmakers.

hey Phil

you know there's a few of us who have been on that bandwagon...

tough as nails...don't see that feral taz look so much anymore...but a super player for the Hawks

Hi gents.
Well done.

Don't head to the cats board.
Some are attempting to beat north for the biggest melt in bf history.

But a win is a win I guess.

Good advice, the supporters will lick their wounds and then they'll go back to celebrating the inevitable wins to come. No point rubbing salt in now.

Left at 3qtr time. Still haven't seen us win against them

Oh and I usually do this post-match wrap thing where I rate individual players and comment on what I liked about their games, but I'm not even going to bother this time. Don't wanna get RSI from CTRL+C/CTRL+Ving "played a great game, beat his direct opponent" 22 times.

That was a statement game.

I really really really really like the ruck combo of Ceglar and McEvoy !! Think cegs has improved and big boy will be better in his second year with club, amazing to have hale as depth at box hill

Bloody awesome stuff, I had to work today and missed it live. I wanted to stay spoiler free but I got an updated score at half time then got told we won at the end of it. Long season ahead, I would actually rather we have more close wins ala last year (better preparation than winning by 30-60 points each week, saw what happeend to Sydney in the prelim last year... gotta work hard and battle!).

Essendon next week, god I hope they lose by 60+

Just got home, had a great time from my bird's eye view! :D Very, happy with my Hawks boys :):):)

Initial thoughts... Ceglar, Lewis, Roughie and Bruest great, Anderson showed plenty when he came on. Loved seeing Cyril get through a whole game. Thought Smith had an absolute mare (by our lofty standards) and we really missed some opportunities in the last quarter, there will be other games where kicking 1.7 or whatever it was won't cut it. However, couldn't have asked for a better start to the season :thumbsu:
