And for all that change what do we have to show for it? Let's back the coach and ask them players to pull the fingers out of their arses, upskill the young fellas and do it properly.

So just keep doubling down, sunken cost fallacy?

At what point do we expect anything better? 1 year? 2 years? 5 years?

Missing today was: Murphy, Simpson and Thomas. This leaves a bunch of kids in the midfield.
Murphy is an outside mid that has been playing shit anyway. Thomas and Simpson both HB. Neither of the players missing affect the midfield

Yeah but the perception going into this season was constant 60-100 point drubbings for Gold Coast so the way they've been able to be uber competitive for 3 quarters against most sides has been a big tick. Reality is most people expected Carlton to be winning matches this year, they were seemingly doing well in early matches but whether Bolton has just lost the players or the younger bodies are starting to tire now I don't really know. Either way the hole in the list was glaringly obvious and it was always going to be a big ask to defy what history has shown happens in these instances.

I had GC last and us 2nd last with my predictions.

GC are on a downward trajectory as far as I can see, similar to what we have been this season as the youngsters get mentally and physically exhausted.

I don’t think Bolts is the man to lead us forward, and will be gone either this week or next.

The reality is the team out there was very inexperienced. Nothing can change that as it stands. Emotions cannot change this and sacking the coach is an emotional decision. We will improve when we get our experience back.
Out of those only Murphy plays midfield.

Still we badly missed those guys, as well as McGovern and Jones.

At least Ed Curnow played midfield today.
Well when I watch games I do see Thomas and Simpson run through there. Certainly a few hundred games of experience is valuable right?

How many years should we give everyone? Brittan had 2 and was harshly dealt with, but pagan had 4.5 seasons, ratts 5, malty 2.5, now bolts has had 3.5, with the last 2 years yielding 4 wins.

Moronic loyalty isn’t the answer.

SOS is just as culpable too though, both should go.

I’m not advocating keeping the coach. If you read it again, you’ll see that Carlton have had 5 different coaches but the same outcome. 5 premierships among those coaches too. Problems at the club run far deeper than the guy with the title of senior coach.

Bolton and John Barker and Shane Watson to go, effective immediately. Uninspiring group who seem to have paralysed the players. Give Dale Amos the interim job, appoint Docherty an official assistant coach, even though he basically is already.

End of season I'd also thank Marc Murphy for his services, no longer required.

Was saying last year they should be giving him the flick. He’s the only coach who has ever reminded me of Neeld. 40 losses from 44 games. Enough already. Give it the bandaid treatment.

I would rather take a Charlie Curnow at 12 and Burton 19 in same draft than say a Paddy McCartin, Andrew McGrath or Cam Reyner at 1. Stocker only first year player and looking more settled. Needs few more preseasons.

That’s not really how it works though and you’ve picked some good players for your point. You need pick 12 in the next draft year.

I better one that I can use is

Luke Hodge - pick 1 in 2001
For
Jason Cloke - pick 19 in 2000
and
Brent Reilly - pick 12 in 2001

Well only time will tell how shapes up

If Liam Stocker & player we get with Crows Pick ends up being a gun then Blues made great trade. If player Crows Pick with our pick ends up being a gun like Luke Hodge then Crows win

Will be years till we find out who’s in better position and how made better moves at selection table

Absolutely, Stocker is looking pretty good so far so you guys are off to a good start

His looking good so far off half back. Needs few preseason to build endurance and muscle, comes with time. Happy with what I’m seeing but same time only 18 years with handful of senior games.

None of those guys play midfield.
None of them are big bodies.
All 3 of them are past their best.
They provide invaluable leadership and experience on th field. They can position young players for the coach. Bolton himself said he had a hard time getting a message to the young players to adapt to a change in Strategy.

In all seriousness, I feel a little bad for Bolton.

It can't be easy to be the face of such a lacklustre organisation and it's only going to get harder after decisions like trading away pick 1 for Stocker.

I might buy that for Simmo, but let's be honest. They look as clueless as a lot of the youngsters and butcher the ball just as badly.
As for Bolton's message, can't say any of them have got it, since Neil Craig left.
Half the reason they are always under pressure is they don't know where the next guy is supposed to be or he doesn't know where to be, and they panic.

Don't think it will happen. But if Essendon sack Woosha he's suit, would be ideal for a couple of years to simply steady the ship and then move him on if he can't get the team to the top gear required for competing.

Has proven track record at steadying ships and building good lists. His brand might be a bit damaged with a failure at Essendon though so move might potentially lack support of members. Of course if someone like Roos is available, you'd preference him.

Amazing how long the uncertainty and sub par performances have gone on at Carlton, I really think a super conservative Coach in the mold of Woosha is what they need. Steady the ship, and then look to innovate when things aren't falling apart. They really cannot afford another year of this.
I'd argue they can since it's been happening consistently since the mid 00s (with the occasional jumps up the ladder). It's not like they really suffer any consequences worth worrying about.
