Plenty of energyIt certainly appears that Stokes was in top moral form again. A dominant 0.
This weekend usually signifies the cross over - after this weekend usually no one cares about cricketDon't like the start of footy creeping into the early part of March...It's still cricket season for a couple more weeks

Yet if you listen to the Pom scribes they half expect him to get the star for Jonny at home this yearOnce again Foakes is showing up the Bazball boys by playing a sensible test innings.

Yes - if it’s between him and Bairstow for the keeping spot for me it’s a no brainerHonestly, would you pick him?
Ok he’s kept well. Absolutely no denying that and his keeping has never ever been in question.
But he’s averaged 22 in 9 innings.
I’m all ears for the ‘pick your best keeper’ argument but if your best keeper is not contributing more than 22 per innings then we are talking batting input of keepers from 50 years ago.

Foakes doesn’t shell chances like Bairstow that saps confidence - I’ll take a keeper over a backstop anydayGiven Bairstow’s equally poor batting form you’re taking the lesser of two evils right at the moment.
But you can’t seriously want a number 7 who is offering that

Bairstow has also average 22 in 9 innings. And Foakes has probably saved another 30 or 40 an innings by taking catches and stopping byes than what Bairstow could doHonestly, would you pick him?

You might not be comparing him to Bairstow but back on English pitches you can almost guarantee that those in charge of England will be looking at putting Bairstow behind the stumps again. That’s irrelevant because I’m not comparing him to Bairstow.
If Bairstow stays he stays as a batsman. Bairstow to me is competing with Pope for a batting spot when Brook returns.
I am not across county cricket enough to know who else keeps wicket beyond guys like Butler and Phil Salt (occasionally) so I would assume the comparison in catching and saving extras would be against other players
Inspired by bazballGill scoring too quickly for a India #3

Looking at the County stats for last year James Rew might be the one but they may not take the risk on a 20yo
Gill sees out the last over quietly!!
It's a bit harsh judging Foakes batting record when he usually only gets picked by England for the tougher spinning subcontinent pitches.
He very rarely gets picked for the tests with easier flatter English pitches that Bairstow gets to enjoy when he is picked as their keeper.
